Mission:
The Shuttle Incident
Location: USS Washington
Timeline: Current
Ashlynn paced her quarters swiftly. Actually, it had been roughly forty minutes; she wasn't paying attention to the time. She had heard the news about the crash a few days ago but she forced herself to focus on work and not the worst case scenario. She failed after a gallant effort of bottling up her true feelings.
She couldn't lose James. Not now, not when they had reunited only a few months ago now. She now knew how he felt when he couldn't do anything to help her when she was on the Saber held captive by her Mirror Universe counterpart and that evil woman's colleagues; who James ironically watched die and come back to life.
As she paced, Reeve kept scampering away from her feet. The orange tabby was concerned for her. He needed to find a way to comfort his adoptive mother. The feline couldn't gather when to do this, but he was smart enough despite the orange cat stereotypes.
The threat of losing him mortified her. Sure, she could survive without him, but at what cost? She could barely even think about it without breaking down; she fell to her knees and let go. She couldn't even completely understand why she broke down so easily here. She had been though worse and without James before, so why wasn't she stronger? No. She refused to go there. Any sane person would react exactly the same if the person they loved the most were in the exact same situation. James wasn't dead yet. The threat of losing him kept looming over her. James was her rock. She couldn't afford to lose him.
She sat on her bed after taking a breath. She needed that even if James was far from out of the woods. Reeve bounced onto the bed, curled up, and started purring in an attempt to comfort her.
The cat had succeeded and fell sound asleep in her lap.
