Now you see me

Posted on Tue Dec 28th, 2021 @ 4:06pm by Petty Officer 1st Class Amethyst Reece & Ensign Zack Ravencroft

Mission: Sinister Intentions
Location: Sickbay
Timeline: Prior to away team dispatch

Amethyst had arrived for her shift to find she already had a patient to care for, evidently, there had been a prisoner escape and the security guards had been knocked out cold. The Vulcan nerve pinch was very effective. She paused by the biobed that held Zack Ravencroft checking on his readings.

Zack heard the sounds around his biobed and started to wake up. A grunt of discomfort from his splitting headache escaped him when he opened his eyes. The lighting was darn bright and things were slightly blurry. The first thing that came into focus was what first was a blob of red in the white around him. This red was in fact the most intense red hair he had ever seen. The hair looked to be very full and well cared for and the face that accompanied it was exceedingly beautiful. "I must be dead... Well damn," he muttered and closed his eyes again.

Amethyst grinned as she leaned over a little. “Oh, you are anything but dead Zack.” She smiled warmly. “Computer lower light level to 50%” As the lights above the bed dimmed she looked down at Zack again. “How’s that?”

He opened his eyes. "Better." Zack realized he had made a fool of himself, he brushed it off as something he was on. Her smile was very nice, but he refused to let that affect him. He had seen many women smile like that and it had crushed him every time at the end.

“How are you feeling?” Amethyst looked at the biobed readouts. “Your readings are all within norms, a nerve pinch can leave some residual pain.”

"A nerve pinch?" he looked straight at her. "OH for fuck sake!" he cursed in frustration. The damned prisoner had escaped.

“Relax Ensign, from what I know about Vulcans you wouldn’t have been able to stop him that easily.” Amethyst offered a gentle smile. “He could have killed you, you’re lucky he didn’t.”

"Perhaps, but Vulcans aren't unbeatable. We were armed as well..." he growled in frustration.

“From what I know he had one of our crew.” Amethyst offered a polite smile as she made notes on the PADD from the readouts. “He took the ship’s Chief Counsellor.”

"I did meet her when she wanted to see the prisoner." his anger was starting to grow, was the woman in cahoots or was she taken unwillingly? Both scenarios he didn't like.

“I don’t know all the details but it seems he has influence over women.” She shuddered at the thought. “I’m glad I wasn’t here the same time as him.”

He starred at her with murder in his eyes. "What did you say? Why wasn't I informed about this before? If I had known, I would make damn sure she wasn't anywhere near that man."

“I just read through the notes left from this morning, I didn’t know either until now, and that’s just guesswork at present. At least it was!” Amethyst sighed. “I guess he’s proven it now.”

He huffed in frustration. The fact that they had so easily been handed their asses in a doggy bag didn't sit well with him.

“Well if you feel up to it I’m ready to clear you for duty” Amethyst offered a smile. “I have to have the doctor sign off on it but I see no reason why you can’t get back to it.”

"Yeah. I need to make preparations to hunt down that scum." he knew he probably wouldn't get a chance, but he would still be ready for it.

Amethyst nodded. “And headaches or any other problems, make sure you come back and see the doctor.”

"No need to come back, I have a headache now." he shrugged.

Amethyst nodded. “Okay, let me run a scan just to be sure there’s nothing more going on.” She picked up a tricorder and ran a scan, tapping the display. “Nothing serious, but you being so tense isn’t going to help.” She picked up a hypospray. “This is a painkiller it’ll help relieve your headache.”

"Will it impair my mind if I need to be sharp to hunt this target?"

“Not at all” Amethyst shook her head. “It won’t make you drowsy or impair your judgement. Just please... be careful.”

He snorted. He had heard the care of that kind of voice before. Several times it ended in heartache and he refused to fall for it again. "Thank you nurse." Zack accepted the hypo and injected it in his neck before standing up.

“You know I was supposed to do that for you” Amethyst grinned. “Good luck Ensign, I have a feeling you’re going to need it.”

He shrugged. "Luck has never served me well, so I do not believe in it."

Amethyst nodded. “Then whatever you do believe in Ensign?”

He headed for the exit of the medbay, before he left, he turned and spoke. "Discipline." with that he left.
