The Calm Before the Storm

Timeline: before the chaos :P

The day had been relatively uneventful - something Sam was infinitely thankful for. There was the usual steady stream of bumps and bruises from minor incidents both on duty and off for the crew, routine physicals for new crew and annual checkups for the existing ones. There was a little time left over for training and a team catch up before she clocked off on time for once, and headed back to her quarters for a quiet evening.

The meal was simple, protein, carbohydrates and vegetables in some kind of casserole that ticked all the nutritional boxes and didn't taste too replicated. A glass of wine was the ultimate accompaniment and allowed the Doctor to relax a little more. The meal completed she picked up the wine glass and headed over to the couch under the window and curled up with a medical journal she'd been trying to get the time to read for the last month.

" Ahhh... finally" She sighed, taking a sip of wine and opening the document on the PADD.

" Dr Howard - Medical Emergency - Report to sickbay immedia..." The call was interrupted by the sound of a scuffle mixed with random screaming before cutting out completely.

" So much for that idea..." Sam rose with a sigh and grabbed a hypo to neutralise the alcohol in her system. Somehow she had a feeling she wasn't going to be back in her quarters for a while.
