Mission:
Cead Mile Failte
Location: USS Washington - Sickbay
Capt Shran dh'Klar did not like being in sickbay for any reason. He was like virtually every StarFleet captain in that way. He had come to check in with Sam, but she had left it seemed to work on one of her medical experiments, leaving the junior medical staff to run things. The Sam's office he had found Tarja and had spoken briefly with her before heading out, preferring to have the medical issue handled by his longtime friend. As he made his way out of the office and into sickbay proper the doors to sickbay opened and one of the new engineers entered. Shran stopped in his tracks to allow the young officer to enter. He immediately recognized the officer as Aenar, though he wasn't fully briefed at this point on the new officers.
"Good afternoon lieutenant" he said in his usual stoic tone.
As Rel entered sickbay, he felt a familiar yet new presence near him. Stiffening up at the greeting he realized it was one of the only other Andorians aboard the ship, the captain. "Good afternoon, Sir." he responded stepping out of the way for the captain. "Didn't expect anyone on the other side of the door, figured the crew avoids this section of the ship for the most part."
Shran offered a half smile. "Yes, well, I generally do" he replied. "I assume you are here for your standard workup. Looks like you'll have the opportunity to be looked over by one of our own" he said simply, referring to Tarja.
The female Andorian made her way out to see what the commotion was. Shran continued to speak with the new officer, "From your look, I would say you are only partially Aenar lieutenant. I assume a mixed parentage."
He nodded towards the captain before turning to the other voice in the room. "Correct, Half Aenar and Half Andorian." he responded to the medical officer, tilting slightly feeling another familiar yet new feeling. "Hmm." he mumbled to himself.
Shran's antennae raised. "Are you sensing something out of the ordinary lieutenant?"
Tarja looked at the two, "I hope I am not the cause of this."
Rel gave a small laugh, "Oh no, just it's been a while since I was around other Andorians. Outside a visit with my sister and in passing on starbases. It gives a "warming" feeling as our human colleagues would say." looking towards the Lieutenant. "Where would you like me? I would like to get the poking and prodding out of the way before I start my shift. Nothing against ya, just not a fan of medical these days."
"I'll leave you to your medical checkup" Shran noted, exiting sickbay.
"Exciting day having the captain show up out of the blue. He is the last person I would ever expect to come down here without it being something life threatening" Tarja said with a hint of nervousness. "We can get you checked up over here" she began, and then realizing the person she was speaking with was blind. "Perhaps you'd like me to assist you over to the location. And I promised, very little poking and prodding. Mostly just scanning."
"I can move around just fine. Thank you." he said and jokingly bumped into the biobed. "I don't mind a little poking and prodding, it's the excessive amount of doing it when you find a little hiccup in my blood work or scans. I also think that was my first time meeting the captain."
Tarja moved over to prep everything while Rel made his way over. "Well, you and the captain have something in common, Aenar ancestry. His is further off than yours, but like you he has Aenar in his genetic background."
"Ah I see that is why he felt so familiar." he said taking his position on the biobed. "It is rare chance for me to come across another with Aenar genetics. Let alone someone like me so far from Andoria. It is also hard to keep from letting my telepathy to take over, especially with so much going on. Although I have gotten rather used to talking aloud at least over the years."
"The captain has limited telepathy. He doesn't seem to use it often though. Now, Cmdr Celes on the other hand..." Tarja replied as she began scanning. "I think I prefer not being telepathic. While a great gift, it also seems like a great burden." She looked at the tricorder and reviewed the readings. "Well, good news, everything looks to be in good order. I don't think you will have any reason to not start working immediately."
"I have yet to meet the Commander but you're the second person to tell me that. I assume she's the one that currently feels like a raging ice storm on Andoria, mixed with a raging fire storm on Vulcan. Someone on the ship seems to be all over the place and it is a bit, distracting."
"Thank you for the clean bill of health, I hope my next visit is the same. Although you aren't wrong about the burden of telepathy." he said rubbing his forehead. "It is taxing sometimes."
"Hot and cold...sounds like you are describing Lt Senn. She is also a Betazoid and is quite turbulent. Commander Celes is more grounded, and I believe the more powerful telepath. My understanding is she is exceptionally powerful, even for a Betazoid." Tarja input the tricorder scans into the medical database to update the patient file.
She picked up a hypospray, checking the dosage and then walked over and gave Rel an injection. "This will help you with that headache, calm your telepathic center for a bit. It has been a pleasure meeting you lieutenant. I hope you enjoy your time aboard the Washington."
"Thank you Lieutenant, will try too. It is new ship, will take a little bit to adjust to hopefully by the time we finish the mission, and I learn all I can about the Washington I will have learned to handle it."
Tarja let out a sigh as she looked around the empty sickbay as Rel left. It could be lonely at times working in sickbay on such a large ship. At least for a junior medical officer. She was almost tempted to activate the EMH just to have somebody to talk with but thought better of it. If Sam caught her using that unnecessarily she'd toss her out the nearest airlock. She headed back to the office to update Rel's medical file, noting he was medically cleared for duty. At least she met an Aenar. It was one more thing she could check off her "to do" list.
