The Phoenix Crashes

This is a bit of a weird log. I haven't sat down to type one of these since my assignment at Deep Space Two. I never really needed to. I usually wait until I'm off duty and alone in my quarters. I suppose I'm just bored on this road-trip with my colleagues, and I don't want to bother them while I am keeping an eye on the Bahamut's tactical readouts.

We are returning to the Washington after an intelligence conference with the brass. I am honored that the Captain asked me to represent security and tactical, but I also understand now why most officers refuse to leave the cushy captain's chair for a back-breaking desk job at Starfleet Command. I don't blame them. I wouldn't even want to leave a ship command to put on Admiral's pips if I were a Captain.

Seriously, the only way I would be willing to take on more paperwork is if it came with a personal flagship command and a small fleet, but it will be a long time before something that prestigious ever happens to me, if at all. I am just a Lieutenant after all.

But I digress. I'm not actually here to talk shop. I've been feeling a little homesick; I miss Ash. It's weird. I never though that I would even need to, having reunited and serving on the same ship and all. Hell I've been away from the Washington for longer than this and felt fine.

It is confusing to say the least. I think that it is because I am in love with her, but that fact has never changed since high school despite my time in the ice. But why is it more prominent now? Was it because of our shore leave on Risa? We didn't even do anything more than we would have normally done as best friends.
