Jon was torn, he wanted to go and see her but was afraid of what is appearance might set off and he didn't want to do anything that would set her getting better back. The she in question was Dr. Samantha Howard and she was one of his closest friends. The reason for his hesitating in going to see her was simple. His mirror had tortured and humiliated Sam, tried to break her in both mind and body. He sighed, he wanted to go and see her, to offer his support and friendship but not if it set Sam back. He paced the living room floor. He would ask Callie get her advice and then proceed accordingly.
"Callie?" He called out to her.
“Yes sweetheart?” Callie answered quietly as she walked into the living area of their quarters having just put the twins down to nap.
"Have a question for you and I need your advice as chief counselor." He paused for a second and then continued. "I want to see Sam but I worry my appearance may do more harm than good in her recovery after all it was my mirror that tortured her and I feel terribly guilty over it, But my feelings are secondary to Sam getting better which is why I need your advice."
Callie nodded. ‘Actually you’ve raised a point there I never thought about, when Sam asked to leave Sickbay I offered to let her stay with us, I didn’t think about the situation.” She paused. “Anyway, I think Sam needs all the help she can get right now, but maybe she’d be more comfortable if I was there too?”
"Of course sweetheart! I think that makes good sense for you to be there. I don't want to do anything that might upset Sam or set her recovery back. You being there should help keep her calm and erase any doubts about me." Jon answered. "Oh, she can stay here love, if she wants to. I think it might be the best for her short term, not leaving her alone."
“It depends on how comfortable she is with that idea” Callie sighed. “I wish I could help with how unsure she is, but I can’t take away her fears. Only Sam to overcome what’s happened, and it’s going to be a long road of recovery.”
Jon nodded, "That makes sense. This is hard for all of us but Sam, she was tortured by someone who looks like me. I don't know if she'll ever feel comfortable around me or trust me." Jon replied dejectedly.
She knows you’d never hurt her Jon, but it might take some time.” Callie offered. “She’s been tortured, and her world shattered, now she’s got to piece it all back together again.”
"I hope your right Callie. I know it will take time for Sam to put it all back together and if it means I stay away for awhile, it will hurt but I'll do it."
Callie nodded. “Why don’t we see what Sam thinks? I think she’d appreciate the company, she’s terrified right now and doing her best to hide it.”
"If you think my presence won't upset her more, than I am all for it sweetie. I want Sam back like she was." Jon replied honestly.
“There’s only one way to truly know, and that’s for us to speak with Sam.” Callie offered.
"True enough. Let's go and talk to Sam and find out her feelings on this." Jon put forth.
Callie nodded. “Let’s drop off the kids enroute, then when we get there I’ll go on in and check with Sam first. That way there’s no surprises.”
Jon nodded, "That sounds good to me. The last thing I want to do is surprise Sam."
“Okay, let’s finish off getting ready and we can head out.” Callie smiled warmly pausing to move closer and give Jon a loving kiss. “I love it when you worry, you know that?”
Jon returned the kiss and hugged her tightly. "I know and I love that you love me for it."
Callie smiled and nodded. “Let’s get going, and see if Sam is willing to see you.”
Jon nodded, "Right with you. Let's do it."
