1,097 words; about a 5 minute read

Mission: Sins of the Empire
Location: USS Washington

"We have ships decloaking at 225.55. Two Romulan warbirds" Deanna noted.

"Imik, you got them?" Shran questioned.

As she had feared, her intermittent returns had in fact been cloaked ships. "Targeting the Warbirds Sinkahue, but I believe them to be a feint as their weapons are not powered."

"Incoming torpedoes" Deanna announced. "Romulan Raptor class decloaking at 44.215 and firing."

"Damn it" Shran cursed. "Imik, target that Raptor. Those tricobalt torpedoes are going to tear us apart if we let too many of them hit us." As he spoke, the ship rocked as enemy torpedoes impacted.

Imik reacted quickly but not quickly enough, "Unable to get a weapons lock Sinkahue."

"Hull breach, deck 9, sections 14 and 15, emergency forcefields in place, sending damage control teams" Deanna noted.

"Imik, keep the phasers firing. Status of the current targets?" Shran questioned.

Both the phasers and torpedoes now locked on to the Raptor closest to the Washington, Imik now opened fire and scored a hit, "Enemy vessel damaged, but its shields are holding. The two Warbirds are now powering up their weapons, torpedo's away." The Raptor again was hit, and the two Warbirds were also hit by phaser fire. "Raptor is breaking off its attack, its hull and engines are badly damaged, the Warbirds have also been damaged but not sufficiently to deter them. Both are realigning themselves for another attack, plus we have two more Raptors at 235.11 attacking."

"That is more Raptor's than what we believed" Shran mused.

"Hull breach, Deck 7, sections 18-24. Emergency bulkheads are in place, forcefields holding, but we have plasma fires everywhere, and the EPS lines are damaged. Rerouting power transfers to keep up defensive systems and life support, emergency power to weapons and structural integrity" Deanna announced.

Shran considered what she had said. With a breach that large, shields didn't matter. "Deanna, activate the ablative armor generator. That should reinforce structural integrity and give damage control teams time to repair the damage." He looked back at tactical, "Imik, target all Raptors. Eliminate them."

Shran then looked to Callie, "Get down to sickbay. Coordinate with Sam regarding the injured."

“On it!” Callie nodded as she hurried away from her seat and headed down to Sickbay.

As quickly as Shran gave the order, Imik imputed the command. The weapons system now targeted the Raptors, "Firing on designated targets, damage is minimal. The designated vessels are realigning for another attack, brace for impact." The Washington rocked as she was hit, Imik continued to carry out Shran's orders, "Engaging designated targets with quantum torpedo's, weapons away prepare for shock wave."

This time the Washington rocked as the shock wave hit her, but no damage was caused. "Two of the Raptors have been eliminated, the third has major damage. Re-engaging the Raptor, with photon torpedoes, weapons away." Imik now turned to Shran, "Target destroyed, resuming fire on other enemy vessels Sinkahue." With her attention now on the other Romulan/Klingon ships, Imik waited as the weapons system remodulated the threat in mere milliseconds'. "Weapons now ready to commence reengagement on the other enemy vessels Sinkahue. Orders?" Imik knew Shran had a plan, her station on tactical was ready to carry it out.

The Washington rocked as the warbirds continued to attempt to disable or destroy them. But Shran knew that the shields could fail and they would still be fine at this point, with the armor deployed. "Defensive status?"

"Shields at 27% and ablative armor deployed. Armor at 98% and damage control teams are deployed to repair the breaches" Deanna reported. "We have three warbirds attacking, all raptors have been disabled or destroyed."

"Imik, full spread of photon torpedoes, attack pattern Gamma 2. Follow it up with a full phaser barrage, target their weapons and engines." He looked to Deanna, "Make sure Engineering gets those EPS main feeds back up immediately. And contact Ba'el, she is clear to engage Toral's forces. Inform her of our teams on the surface."

"Easy does it. Slow is smooth, smooth is fast." Aaron said in the flickering light of the plasma welder in Crewman Dye's gloved hands. "Excellent, that'll hold." He said rising to his feet to check on Johnson's cable work. The deck rocked under his feet, and he gazed out to the spinning stars in the distance as the Washington maneuvered in combat. Quiet explosions on the fleeting glances of impacts on other vessels flared like pinpricks in the vastness of space.

=^= Geiger to Engineering. Ten-minute ETA on resuming pressurization for current location. Send priority jobs to my wrist PaDD and we'll get to it. =^=

Aaron moved to the next section, new bulkhead fitting perfectly as the electrical repair was underway. "How we lookin'?" He said crouching next to Crewman Johnson, his voice slightly modulated over the short-range comm.

"Just need to terminate these ends Chief."

Aaron nodded, realizing that Johnson couldn't see the gesture replied. "Grab Medina when you're done and get to the other side of the forcefield. Once Dye is done, we'll initiate pressurization and move on."

The ship rocked hard and lurched for a moment before all systems returned. The lights momentarily went out, the sign of real trouble. Ens Lawrence came sprinting around the bend towards the Chief. "Massive damage to Deck 7. Plasma fires, EPS system in chaos. Sounds like they are trying to reroute systems to compensate."

Suddenly, the sound that only an engineer could recognize could be heard; the ablative armor generators had been activated, and the armor was being deployed. While it meant a great tactical advantage, considering the situation, it meant that something dire was happening.

Aaron immediately began running after the Ensign, the two crewmen immediately following into step behind them, their boots producing a cacophony across the deck. "Did they get everyone out Ma'am? If medical beam out did what they could, our best option may be to seal off the deck for now!"

Deanna's voice came over the comm, =^=Chief, get that EPS main back up immediately. We have deployed the armor and reinforced structural integrity, so you are clear to get in there. We need it patched up ASAP! =^=

Ens Lawrence looked to the Chief, "Suppose that answers the question Chief. Captain wants something done now; we do it now." The ship rocked a bit as she completed her rebuttal, reminding them they were still in a conflict.

It took a few minutes, but Callie was soon at Sickbay, it was no surprise to find it filling with patients. She quickly got stuck in helping to triage patients with the rest of the nursing staff so they could be seen in order of priority.
