Mission:
Here There Be Dragons
Location: USS Washington
Deanna entered the Captain's Ready Room where Shran and Jon were sitting discussing something, and from their reactions to her arrival it was likely just them fooling about a bit. "Excuse the interruption, but this report came across the Science and Operations desk at Command, and they want us to investigate. It sounds mildly intriguing."
Shran took the data strip and input it to his computer. "Vulcan Science report" Shran noted, a hint of disdain in his voice. He read it further and scoffed. "Sounds like a bunch of those fairy tales from your world" he said, moving the computer so Jon had a better view.
Jon leaned forward to get a better look at the Vulcan Science report. As he watched the info on the screen, he looked at first Shran and then Deanna. "is this for real? Dragons? The Vulcans found dragons?"
"So the scan data indicates" Deanna said with a chuckle.
"The Vulcans believe they can find every mythological creature in the Federation database if given enough time" Shran quipped.
"I will note that the Vulcan Science report has scans at the edge of their range. We have to take the readings with a healthy bit of skepticism" Deanna interjected. "Nonetheless, we are ordered to check out the planet. You'll note that the scans also indicate that the planet is Class-M and appears to have rich amounts of tritanium, dilithium, pergium, and large quantities of liquid latinum."
Shran looked at the scan data again. "All of those are important finds for the Federation mining consortiums. The presence of latinum could create a problem with the Ferengi once it becomes known."
Shran looked to Jon, "Seems we have a planetary survey to undertake with mild potential danger to undertake. Set a course for this planet," he looked at the computer once more, 'Draco IV. Oh, that is a good one. Vulcans come up with that?"
"Draco IV." Jon mused "Old Earth name for Dragons. Any mention of humanoid life or just dragons and the like? As for the Ferengi, they are no concern at least not right now." Jon glanced at Shran and then Deanna, A planetary survey as in an away team, boots on the ground?"
"Based on the scans, no humanoid life detected" Deanna answered firmly. "But I'll reiterate, the Vulcan ship was at the edge of sensor range, so life form readings would be suspect at best. I doubt these dragons exist, but that doesn't mean life forms of some types aren't present."
"Class-M planet, so the planetary survey will include boots on the ground" Shran clarified.
"Lt Phlox can handle the geological survey. We can have several of the science team assist him as needed, as well as some in Operations that have scientific background. I'm looking forward to checking out the lifeforms, fictional and otherwise" Deanna added.
Jon leaned back in his chair and crossed his arms. "Oh are you now?" He teased, "Just who do you have in mind for this away team?"
Deanna looked to Jon, "You mean besides me? Kuzma has the scientific background for sure. You can assign whoever else you think might enjoy a bit of working shore leave."
"Let's see, Kuzma, Phlox, Phoenix, me and.............."
Deanna's face began to scrunch up. "Stop playing around" she said in a huff.
Shran offered a chuckle. "I'm sure we will need several teams. We'll get it worked out before we arrive. Get us on course Jon, warp 5."
Jon grinned from ear to ear. "It's good to know I can still get away with teasing you Deanna." To Shran he said, "yes sir." He tapped his comm badge, "L'Rissa, set course for Draco IV warp five please."
"Understood" L'Rissa growled. The ship jumped to warp, and the stars began to pass like beams of light from the visual in the window of the captain's office.
"And so it begins, this little dragon quest" Shran said with a smirk. "Vulcans and their wild claims..."
