Mission: Unto Darkness, Light
Location: Various
Timeline: During Swiftly & Silently mission

ON

Ten months ago:- The console in front of Sachzny suddenly lit up, two no three cloaked vessels now showed up on long range scans. She check the internal time of the ship, her Captain had been right about the time of contact. Two more contacts now appeared on the scans, =^=Sachzny to Shran, long range sensors now have five cloaked Romulan vessels closing on our position. I suggest all bridge staff now report to their stations, with respect Captain =^=

Now:- How wrong she had been, the first three vessels had been elaborate decoys, the fourth a simple but effective reflection. But the fifth vessel had been an enemy, unheralded or even considered by her Captain. She had tracked the small flotilla as it approached, then four of the five simply vanished. Quantum torpedoes arrived swiftly afterwards, and then the deaths from her neglect.

Ten Months ago:- Sachzny kept her sensors fully on the Romulan vessels, and knew she had to drop shields to allow the enemy Captain on board. "Permission to drop shields Captain?" Until Shran gave that order, she would not allow the Romulans to beam over.

"At the appropriate moment" Shran responded. He got into the turbolift with Jon, Ayana joining them as well. "Sachzny, you have the bridge."

Bowing in response Sachzny glanced towards Tuvok, something about this Vulcan made her uneasy. She looked at the Romulan vessels, they reminded her of other vessels she had seen as a child. They to had an avian look to them, but those vessels had attacked and destroyed several Ojnas ships. A light flashed on her console, time to drop the shields.

Now:- Why had she not spoken up about her doubts? Why had she allowed Tuvok, if indeed that was ever his name, to man one of the bridge stations? These questions haunted her thoughts, the loss of almost all of her department haunted her most of all. Twice she had been given command, twice she had lost those who looked to her to guide them and protect them.

Within her cabin, Sachzny sat meditating on those past events. Looking for even the slightest glimmer, the faintest hope of redemption. She had been in charge of the bridge, she had command of the Washington and she had failed. Yet here she sat in her cabin alive, with her Captain and fellow crew mates once again voyaging on the Washington. The enemy, for she knew not who they were, had killed but taken nothing. Destroyed, but had said not why.

Standing up slowly, Sachzny wiped tears from her eye's. She did not cry for herself, but for those she had failed. Those who had trusted her, and she had deserted when the battle was joined. Did her Captain truly trust her? Did Jon and the rest of survivors truly think her one of them? Estella seemed the most willing, she had joined her family. But Jon and the Captain had kept their distance, were they watching her? Watching to see if she failed again?

Sachzny washed and redressed, exiting her cabin she headed for the bridge. Her duty had arrived, and for the next eight Human hours she would be in charge of the Washington. This time there was no Tuvok, this time there would be no attack. For this time she would fire first, it would be they who died and wonder why?
