Mission: Respite
Location: Lupar 4
Timeline: Shoreleave Day 2 1000 hrs

The next morning was bright and sunny with a slight breeze. Jon and Callie had dressed in cargo shorts and loose fitting shirts and after getting Harry dressed had a nice family breakfast. "Who is for some hiking to be followed by some swimming?" He asked.

Callie nodded. “Sounds good to me! I’m not sure how much hiking I can do, but I’ll give it a try. Let’s just take it slow.”

"Slow and easy is the name of the game." Jon replied with a smile.

“Ohh it certainly is!” Callie grinned playfully thinking of the night before. “Let’s grab what we need and get going.”

"Harry go find us some walking sticks. Get one for each of us." Jon told their son.

Callie smiled. “I’ll pack us a rucksack with some water and rations, and a communicator just incase.” She followed on behind Harry. “The sticks should be in the spare side of the tent, at least I think I put them there.”

Harry nodded, he was full of excitement. “Got them mummy!” He carefully picked up one each bringing them to Callie.

“Well done Sweetheart” She knelt beside him. “I’m sorry for disappearing Harry. It wasn’t my choice, I would never leave you!” She gave her adopted son a hug.

“I know mummy, daddy told me the bad man made you go.” He hugged Callie tightly. “I missed you mummy!”

“I missed you too” Callie hugged for a few moments longer. “We need to get going, more hugs later I promise.”

Jon smile at the interaction between Callie and Harry, There was no doubt about the love the two had for each other. This was what being a family was all about.

With everything ready Callie and Harry joined Jon, “Okay ground rules, we take it slow and steady last thing we need is any injuries. Harry you stay by us at all times, as for you...” She grinned as she looked at Jon. “No superman stuff, you need to be careful too, let’s just make this a gentle hike.”

"Superman! Me?" Jon replied with a smile, "I'm just out for an early morning hike with my wife and son. A gentle hike, I believe is what this is referred to."

Callie grinned. “Good because I’m not letting you over do it. I’m looking forward to swimming!”

"Yes ma'am, you just remember that when it comes to yourself as well." Jon smiled at her.

“I will” Callie nodded and smiled. “Besides swimming is good after an operation, it helps with healing.”

Jon looked at Harry and winked, "Smart mommy, you got there son." He said proudly.

Callie grinned. “Let’s get going, Harry you choose which way to go.” She nodded as their son pointed directly ahead. “Forward it is.”

The trio hiked along, stopping every so often to rest or look at plant or small animal they came across or letting Harry gather a few "pretty" rocks and stones he found.

“Here’s a pretty one Harry” Callie held up another rock for their son’s collection. “I bet we’ll find some interesting things over there..” she pointed towards the lake shimmering in the not too far distance.

"Let's go check it out." Jon suggested.

Callie nodded, smiling as Harry ran on slightly ahead of them. They were soon at the lakeside, the water looked pretty as the surface twinkled in the sun. Walking up to the edge she bent down and dipped her fingers in the remarkably clear blue water. “Wow! This water is actually luke warm!”

Jon knelt beside her and dipped his hand into the sparklingly clear water, "You are right Callie, the water is luke warm, have you got your tricorder? Run a scan for any dangerous organisms as well as any lifeforms in the lake. We don't want to get eaten on vacation." He teased.

Callie grinned. “Doing it...now.” She pulled out her tricorder from her rucksack and scanned the water as well as the local area. “No harmful organisms in the water, seems there’s a natural hot spring nearby that feeds into this lake. No harmful sea creatures in the vaccinate either as far as I can tell.”

That is music to my ears." Jon replied a bright smile on his face. 'Who is up for a little swimming?"

“Most definitely me!” Callie grinned as she started taking off her clothing to reveal a bikini underneath. Putting he clothes neatly on top of her bag she smiled at Jon, before looking to Harry. “Ready for this Harry?” She had a sudden thought “Can you swim?”

Harry stood for a moment before shaking his head. “No mummy”

“Hey...don’t worry!” Callie smiled. “We’ll stay where it’s shallow for you. Daddy and I can take it in turns to swim further out if we want to. When we get back to the ship we’ll get you into a holodeck learn to swim program.”

Don't worry Harry, mommy and daddy won't let anything happen to you and you can still have fun in the water okay?" Jon told their son.

Harry nodded, taking hold of Callie’s hand he held on as they headed towards the water.”

"Harry." Jon told their son. "Don't be afraid of the water. Respect it but don't be afraid."

Entering the water Callie gently lead their son as deep as he’d be safe. “I’m going to let go now, you can touch bottom and it’s not too deep so just enjoy yourself while I go for little swim.” She looked towards Jon. “Imzadi would you watch Harry for me?”

"Sure thing sweetie." Jon answered as he entered the water next to Harry, "Watch your mom Harry, she swims like a fish and you will do after some lessons." Jon assured his son.

Callie started swimming, she took it gently not wanting to overdo it so soon after surgery. She didn’t go too far either just incase she got into any difficulty. Rolling onto her back she enjoyed staring up at the blue sky as she did the back stroke.

Jon was playing with Harry but also keeping an eye on Callie. After what she had endured, he didn't want any harm to come to her. "See that Harry? You will be doing that soon."

Callie swam back joining Jon and Harry. She sat in the shallows having a rest, even the small amount of exercise they’d done so far was proving strenuous.

Jon could she Callie was tired so he called out, "Break time! Let's have something to drink and eat, what do you two say to that?"

“Sounds wonderful to me!” Callie nodded. “But what about your turn to swim?”

"I'll swim later Callie. Right now I want to spend time with you and Harry." Jon answered with a smile.

Callie nodded. “Okay then.” She stepped out of the water and picked up some towels. “Let’s wrap up in these so we don’t get cold or sunburnt.”

Jon looked at Harry, "Get your rocks and stone Harry, you heard the boss."

“Don’t worry we’re not going far I brought supplies so we could eat while we’re here.” She smiled as she pulled out a bag. “Let’s get a fire going.”

"Your wish is my command." Jon replied as he and Harry gathered some scrub brush and put in a pile which he ignited with his phaser.

A little while later they were all tucking into a delicious cooked snack, and a warm drink. “I’m so glad we decided to come camping Jon, I’m really enjoying myself.”

Jon smiled warmly at her. "Me too Callie, me too. I'm going to hate going back to the ship, I'm enjoying myself so much being here with you and Harry."

“Well we’ve still got plenty of time, there’s no rush to get back” Callie smiled warmly. “It’s all time we need. Especially after everything that’s happened lately.”

"Agreed." Jon answered as he took Callie's hand leaned forward to kiss her. "Look away Harry. Mommy and Daddy are going to be doing some icky stuff." He finished as he kissed her.

Harry giggled as put his hands over his eyes as his parents kissed.

Jon decided to add to Harry's delight. "Oh Callie! I love you so!" As he kissed her again and made loud kissing noises.

Callie couldn’t help but giggle and add to the fun, as Harry made yuckie comments in the background.

Jon continued with loud smacks much to Harry's delight and he had to admit it felt good to act and be silly.

Callie laughed, heavens knows it felt good to laugh. She needed it and she intended to carry on enjoying it.

The sound of Callie laughing was music to Jon's ears. It filled him with joy that Callie could relax and laugh especially with all she had been through. It was the best medicine he could ever ask for.
