Counselling

Posted on Thu Feb 3rd, 2022 @ 8:32pm by Lieutenant JG Eislyn Jortho & Lieutenant Commander Callie Raven-Grayson

Mission: Respite
Location: Eislyn’s office
Timeline: Current

The morning had come round all too soon, Callie hadn’t had a very good night and between lunch with Shon, Seth and John and now she had managed only a few minutes sleep. Not wanting to put off a Counseling session she made her way there.

The chime had rung and gotten Eislyn's attention as she was checking her schedule. She assumed it was Callie for her scheduled appointment. She went to door and opened it. "Hello Callie" she greeted softly.

“Good afternoon Eislyn” She offered a tired smile. “I’ll apologize now if I keep yawning. It was a rough night. A lot has happened that I need to tell you about.”

Eislyn smiled. "Well I suppose you should sit down and tell me all about it then."

Callie nodded. Walking over to a seat she made herself comfortable before leaping straight in. “Okay...I’m pregnant!” Her smile said it all. “While we were on shore leave Jon and I decided to start trying for a baby. I wasn’t expecting it to happen straight away, especially given that I’m still recovering I thought it would take at least a month or two, maybe more. It seems my body had other ideas.”

Eislyn smiled. "I'm so happy for you. Who else have you told?"

“So far its just Shon and Jon that know” Callie smiled. “We’ll tell the Captain when he returns from Shore leave. Speaking of which, aren’t I taking up your Shore leave time?”

"Not at all. I felt it necessary for me to remain aboard the ship considering I am the only counselor active right now. Besides, I wasn't looking to take a vacation right now. Lots going on and being able to simply deal with things in a relaxed way for the time being is enough of a break for me."

Callie nodded. “Well I plan on getting back to my duties, Shon says I’m okay to work. Though I’m currently undergoing some infusion treatments to try and help my body accept the pregnancy better. At this point I’m more at risk of a miscarriage. There’s a few side effects to the treatment so it’s proving a little stressful but nothing I can’t handle.”

"You should try to take it easy for as long as possible. It does you and nobody else any good if you rush yourself back to duty only to fall ill. Have you spoken to the captain yet?"

“I plan to once he returns, I don’t want to interrupt his shoreleave with this.” Callie offered a brief smile. “I just hope it doesn’t cause any problems, I’ve caused enough trouble for this ship and crew already!”

"You shouldn't think that way. You didn't cause the problems, you were a victim. And the crew functions much like a family, and was more than willing to do what needed to be done to help you and the others when it was needed." She took a moment to recompose herself, "The truth is, it is amazing how well this crew seems to work together to solve problems, dealing with things I would never expect a crew to have to deal with in this point in time. It is a true testament to the resolve of everyone aboard."

Callie nodded. “That’s true, I can’t thank everyone enough for what they did for both me and Jon. I’ve come to think of this ship more as home now.”

"As you should. How did Jon take the news? I would think he would be both elated and terrified."

Callie nodded. “He’s thrilled. We were both taken by surprise but it’s something we’ve always wanted.”

"Well, I'm happy for you. I would think you will have to take it easy considering the risk factors."

Callie nodded. “I plan to take it easy, don’t worry about that. Besides the side effects from the infusions Shon is giving me aren’t pleasant” She massaged her temples again. “If they don’t subside then we may end up back at square one.”

"Well, as I said, just take it easy. Nothing going on currently that should make you feel like you need to rush back. I'm sure Dex has quoted the medical regs to you a few times by now."

Callie nodded. “She has indeed. Though she did say I could work if I wanted to. I’ll start off gently.”
