Spreading the news

Mission: Respite
Location: Grayson Quarters

{ON}

Knowing that Shran would have to be told the good news Callie had already asked Dex to stop by hers & Jon’s Quarters so that she could answer any questions the Captain might have. She tapped her comm badge.

=^= Callie to Captain dh’Klar, can we see you in our quarters please? =^= she looked at Jon. “Why am I suddenly so nervous?”

"I don't know, possibly because this is so unexpected. Just relax Callie." Jon replied with a smile.

Callie nodded. “You’re right, as always.” She smiled excitedly.

Shon pressed the chime.

Callie smiled as she sensed Shon outside the door. “Come on in Shon!”

She entered to a great sense of happiness and light in her friends quarters. How are you feeling Callie?” She opened her bio sensor, she never left an opportunity go. She scanned her friend waiting for her to talk. “Everything is reading fine, there is some growth there.

“Well I feel wonderful. Just a little nervous about telling Shran.”

"I feel great and excited." Jon answered.

Shran had been getting things settled in his quarters after returning from his trip to Andoria. He knew everything was in order aboard the ship and found it curious that he'd be summoned to someone's quarters. Despite that he made his way over, contemplating might need his attention. He entered to find that a small gathering seemed to be happening, which only seemed to confuse him further. "I assume everything is alright" he said as he approached the group.

Callie looked at Jon and Dex before nodding. “Everything is better than fine.” She paused. “It seems our relaxing trip off ship was err...productive” She looked towards Jon then back at Shran. “I’m pregnant!”

Shran remained expressionless, though internally he was surprised. This was quite a surprise. "Are you certain?" he questioned, doubt and concern filled his voice.

Dex looked at Shran, caught his eye and shrugged her shoulders looking a little embarrassed.

“Dex did the test and scans sir." Jon pointed out.

"I don't mean to sound negative, but you are only coming off from the nastiness of T'Vall a couple weeks ago, and shore leave has only just completed." He looked to Dex, "How is this possible? Surely her body would require more time to heal?”

Dex nodded, “yes her body is still healing that was why I was extremely surprised. If I had not been giving Callie an extended physical series I would not have spotted her pregnancy and Callie herself would not have noticed for another month. As for recognising her pregnancy, changes begin to occur two days after conception. Vulcan diagnostics have made it possible to discover successful implantation after 3 days post conception. I would have to discuss with my patient whether or not she would want me to give you further information. She should rest as much as possible but she can continue in her counselling duties however.

Callie had hid the fact that hearing T’Vall’s name had given her the creeps. She looked towards Dex. “It’s alright with me for you to share details with Shran, Dex. After everything that’s happened I’d rather keep him in the loop.” She looked at Shran. “Dex has already warned us that I’m in a pretty precarious position right now, where miscarriage risk is concerned. I’m willing to do anything I’m told to prevent that.”

Jon caught Callie's tenseness at the mention of T'vall's name and he took her hand in his and gave it a gentle squeeze as a show of his everlasting support for her.

Callie smiled as Jon took her hand, she never could hide anything from him. “Dex has already told me no away party duties Sir.” She looked towards Dex.

"I think that is obvious" Shran replied. He looked at Dex, "She sounds like she is in for a rough time with this. What is your medical opinion?"

“My medical opinion is that it is too early to call. Mentally a baby is the best thing for both of them and It would seem to be a good ending to the horrors of the last few weeks. Physically though I am of a low opinion that the pregnancy will continue. Sam did a wonderful job but it takes time for physiologic changes to become normal. I am in no way saying she will loose the baby but it is a distinct possibility and I have discussed this with her. As I have said she needs complete rest off her feet.

He looked to Jon. "It would seem to me that you have been neglecting your standard injections. Were you trying to have a child?"

"I was trying for us to have a child sir just didn't expect this soon." Jon admitted.

“No, we were trying to have a baby.” Callie looked at Jon then at Shran. “Not necessarily this soon though. Our trip was just to have some time away from the station, not to have a baby. It’s just...become a minor miracle.”

"Miracle indeed" Shran said softly. "It sounds as if you will not be on duty very much for some time counselor, for your own good it would seem. Not sure how you feel about that, nor how I feel about it honestly. It is entirely likely that this ship will be going into harm's way sooner rather than later. While we are more than ready for a fight, I can't say with complete certainty that I can guarantee anyone's safety."

“We know that Captain” Callie nodded. “I can still perform my duties, just not away party. I can sit at my station on the bridge. I’m not going to leave you without a Counselor and advisor.”

“Captain if I did not make myself clear I apologize. Callie CAN continue her counselling duties, in fact it would be beneficial for her to do so apart from away team duty. I also have counselling experience so I may be of some help in the field. As for guaranteeing everyone’s safety when we all signed on we knew that danger would be a large part of our duties and we are prepared for that.

"I'll keep that in mind doctor, though I am inclined to send Eislyn on away missions if Callie can't go. I would suggest that a very strict duty schedule be followed by Callie as we determine what she is and isn't capable of." Shran looked at Callie and Jon, "I have no say about what you decide or how you live your lives, but how my officers perform is under my purview. I'll expect you both to continue to meet your obligations."

"Have I ever failed you or this ship in doing my duty...sir? Or has Callie?" Jon countered

Dex attempted to intervene. “Now everyone let us not ruin what is good news and this certainly will not do our mother to be much good. Jon will be back on duty within a week Captain and Callie will be able to perform her duties on board as excellently as she has been doing.”

"I'm not questioning you Jon. I'm pointing out that this looks to be something that will personally require a great deal of time. You will still handle your duties as normal, this is going to curtail what Callie can do. Please understand, I am very happy for you both, but as captain, I have to consider how this impacts the ship."

"Anything worthwhile takes time and sacrifice sir and having a baby with Callie is definitely worthwhile." Jon replied. "You also heard what Dex just said, so where exactly is the problem sir?"

“Jon..” Callie looked towards her husband. “The Captain is just doing his duty, after everything that’s happened to us lately adding a new pregnancy...it’s an unknown factor right now. The Captain needs crew he knows he can rely on.” She sighed. “Right now that isn’t me.”

"Oh balony Callie! if the Captain doesn't know by now that he can rely you then I don't know what else to say." Jon was getting angry and his injuries were beginning to act up and hurt him.

Dex could see Jon’s pain becoming uncontrollable. Jon, sit down right now, I need to give you an analgesic. Captain can we continue this at another time my patient needs rest and me?”

"My whole life, my career all I've strived for is to do and be the best. To care for those thar matter the most to me. Callie, this ship and crew, you sir and now it seems as if it is all being called into question." Jon replied.

Shran shook his head. "You don't understand. We are going to Orion and dealing with the Orion Syndicate directly. They attempted to kill Aiko and L'Rissa while they were on Cait for shore leave. They are trying to get retribution for losses incurred because of the situation that happened with Callie and T'Vall. This isn't just a you and Callie problem, or a Federation problem, or a StarFleet problem, this is a direct threat on my ship and crew, and it gets dealt with my way. You can consider me cold as an Andorian winter, but I protect my own. I have work to do. Congrats to you both. I'll be on the bridge." Shran turned and walked out.

“Jon, sit” Dex commanded, her voice took no brooking. She pressed an analgesic hypo into his carotid. “You need to rest now, it looks like we will all be needed. I thought this was over.” She shivered at the thought of dealing directly with the Orions. “It looks as though it is just the beginning.”

"No you don't understand." Jon whispered as Shran departed but still did as Shon asked and sat.

Shon looked at Callie, then back at Jon. “I am going to recommend you see Counsellor Jortho Jon. You are showing signs of PTSD and it is quite understandable. Discuss it with Callie and I will come and see you both later. Any questions from either of you?”

"Not going." Jon replied stubbornly. "I'll talk to Callie."

Dex was beginning to get annoyed, “why not Jon? It would be unethical for you to see your wife in a professional way, unless..unless you agree to talk to me initially and then I will make a decision whether to involve anyone else. Is that a deal Commander?”

"Look don't cop an attitude with me Dex. I'm defending myself and Callie and now I'm the bad guy?" Jon questioned.

“Woa who brought being a ‘bad guy’ into this conversation. Not 3 weeks ago you nearly died, you fought and killed the man who raped your wife and who kidnapped her for several days, I saw you out there Jon when she was taken away from you, you suffered all that time. And why are you defending Callie? she does not need defending. “ Shon sighed, “you will need to speak to Sam then, I am not willing as your physician to get into this argument. You know how I fought for you when they brought you in to sickbay, and I am still fighting for you now. I will leave you and Callie to discuss it.” She stood, Good night Jon, Callie.” She nodded and left.

“Goodnight Shon” Callie offered the best smile she could muster. She waited until she and Jon were alone before looking towards him. “She’s right Jon, you should talk with Eislyn. I know I will be.”

Jon looked at her and shook his head, "You too Callie?"

“I’m sorry, I know you were defending me but you’ve been through a lot.” Callie paused. “If you don’t want to talk to Eislyn then talk to Shon about how you feel. At least put her mind at rest.”

Jon was silent for a few seconds before replying. "I will talk to Shon." He finally replied.

Callie nodded. “That’s all I ask, so how’s about we go home? Harry won’t be home from his friend’s just yet, we’ll have some time to cuddle up together.”

"Sure, that will be nice." Jon replied. He was mad but not at Callie or Shon.

Callie nodded, but her usual cheery smile was missing. She couldn’t help but feel that she was the cause of a rift that was starting to grow between Jon and Shran.

Jon looked at his wife and saw her usual smile was gone. "Callie you are not to blame for any of this. Do you understand me? You are not to blame."

Callie nodded. “I know, it’s just...after my kidnapping and everything else. This was feeling like a miracle, now it seems not quite so much.” She shrugged her shoulders. “Let’s just go and lie down, I’m tired and I just want to cuddle with you.”

"Callie, stop it. It's our miracle." Jon stated firmly. "Now let's go and cuddle."

Callie nodded offering more of a smile. “I’ll beat you there!”

"You're on Callie!" Jon answered with a true, relaxed smile directed at his love, his life, his wife.
