Meeting Junior Officers

Posted on Sun Aug 21st, 2022 @ 9:48pm by Lieutenant Nicole Logan & Ensign James Phoenix

Mission: A Trip to Middle Earth
Location: Chief's Office
Timeline: TBD

As Nicole went to her office, she tapped her combadge =^= Ensigns Phoenix and Ravencroft. Could you please come to my office. I'd like to meet my Junior Officers for Tactical and Security. Please. =^=. She then sat down and relaxed.

James was in the Washington's primary armory finishing up his shift. Lucky for Phoenix his counterpart for the next shift had just arrived so once the new Security Chief's call came in, he was able to leave early to go to the Chief's Office. Once he left he walked swiftly down the corridor to the turbolift.

She then asked the replicator to make her a cup of Earl Grey Tea and it made it. She then sat there looking over her team on her roster and drank her team. Once she was doing that, she noticed something rather different about her people. She then asked herself *what kind of hand-to-hand combat her team uses*.

Once the lift arrived on the deck the doors slid open. James stepped out and walked down the corridor and made a left turn to walk down another set of corridors. A made a right turn and walked for a few seconds before he arrived at the new Chief's Office. He had served under Ayana since he came aboard the Washington, but now that there was an official Security Chief he wasn't sure what to expect from his new boss. James took a deep breath and pressed the door chime.

She looked at the door and she then said "enter!" She said as she saw Phoenix walks in. She then looked at him. "I see you got a good outstanding record." Sbe said.

As he walked into her office, he could tell that she was potentially more informal compared to other CO's. He was not complaining however, in fact he actually preferred this. He felt that too many CO's were too uptight and strict and focused too much on formalities rather than work. Regardless, he stood at attention as he was in the presence of a superior officer. He looked at Lieutenant Logan. "Sounds about right" he chuckled lightly. She was not wrong however.

"At ease Ensign. Please sit down." She smiled and gestured him a seat in front of her. "Tell me a little bit about yourself. What do you specialize on board here? I also hear you've been through so many Commanding officers for Security and Tactical lately. Why's that?" She asked. "Is it that they were being to harsh and you didn't appreciate them or what? I'm just curious. If I am asking far to many questions please do tell me. I am just here to know my junior officers on board the Washington. Possibly at some point maybe a time in my quarters for a little dinner or something?" She said. Although she didn't want wo overstep. "Anyways back to you. What makes you a good security officer?" She asked.

"I'm never opposed to a dinner of any kind" He began as he took his seat in front of her. "You aren't asking too many questions by the way. Your my Commanding Officer, I sort of expected this, especially with my past and all. To answer your other questions, yy CO's on the Washington have actually been exemplary. I transferred to this ship when Lieutenant Hillis was the acting security chief. As for before this, I served on stations as a Commissioned Officer. I'm only a couple years out of the Academy, so I have seen my fair share of new CO's. I have heard of my former classmates running into Commanding Officers that were more focused on formalities than the actual work that needed to be done. Don't get me wrong, I believe there should be formalities when in uniform, it's just that our jobs should be focused on too" he answered honestly.

James scratched his chin. "As for everything else, right now I see myself as sort of a wildcard in this department since I have done everything from armory watch shifts to shifts on the bridge and simple security rounds around the ship. In terms of what makes me a good security officer aside from my training, I make sure to pay extra attention to my surroundings, the people I'm talking to, Starfleet or not. I know it sounds like the job description of a security officer, but it is true."

"No Ensign that's good actually. Uh what makes you feel like you're a good officer other then that. What makes you feel good about yourself?" She asked him.

He thought for a moment. There wasn't a unique answer to what made him a 'good officer'. "To be honest sir, I don't really know what makes me a good officer in a unique way. I do try and take risks when needed, but it's a common answer" he answered honestly. "I think what makes me feel good about myself professionally is that I know that even though we live in a post-war world, no matter how bad things could get, I've been through some of the worst stuff in my life sometimes alone. I know it's not what you were expecting, but I feel that those experiences have made me more prepared for the future in a weird way, good or bad."

He internally slapped himself upside the head. "Sorry, I didn't mean to get that far into my past" he chuckled nervously.

"It's okay Ensign. Tell me more about yourself. Why here on the Washington? And what made you choose to be security?" She said.

"To be honest, if I told you about myself I think we'd be here for hours" he chuckled. "But to tell a long story short, I am 381 years old, despite the fact that I look twenty-seven, and I technically still am twenty seven. I am also not an El-Aurian or any other race with long lifespans like that. Truth is I'm fully Human. I believe the full story should be in my record, at least in what the Federation chose to put."

"With that out of the way, and I'm fully open to explain that whole ordeal later. But once I awoke in the 24th Century you guys had just come out of a war. I am a car mechanic at heart, but I felt that I could make a better difference in security or command rather than something like engineering. As for the Washington, I hadn't served on a ship since my cadet rotation and I wanted to go out into space."

"It's alright. I don't really need to know a lot I'm just your Commanding officer of Security. I trust ya.

"Thank you sir" he said genuinely. "Is there anything else you would like to know?"

"No that would be it ensign." She said.

Phoenix nodded as he got up out of the chair. "For the record I won't let you down" he began towards the door since he was technically dismissed.

"Duley noted Ensign." She said as she sat there smiking.

TAG

OOC Phoenix: I apologize for being late to the tag, I was waiting for the LOTR holodeck posts to wrap up. Speaking of, does this take place before those or after?

OOC: It's like before.

OOC: Noted. Thanks

It would have to take place after the holodeck incident. Logan didn't arrive until after the holodeck incident had already begun.
