Time together

Posted on Sun Aug 21st, 2022 @ 5:10pm by Lieutenant Commander Callie Raven-Grayson & Commander Jonathan Grayson

Mission: A Trip to Middle Earth
Location: Quarters

It was the end of a long shift, and Callie was nursing a nice headache thanks to the minor injury she got earlier in Sickbay. Arriving home she got herself some mild analgesic pain relief before sitting down to wait for Jon.

She was enjoying a refreshing drink when the doors opened to reveal her husband. “Welcome home” She motioned to a glass of drink waiting for him. “Figured you could use a drink.”

"Hi Callie." Jon answered in a subdued tone as he came into their quarters. He nodded at the mention of a drink. "How's your head?" His concern for her was as always paramount. He moved to the couch to sit next to Callie but didn't touch the drink. As he sat down, he leaned back and closed his eyes and sighed deeply as he just sat there quietly.

“It’s fine, just a minor headache that I’ve taken something for.” Callie cuddled up offering support. “Stop blaming yourself Imzadi, you weren’t to know any of this would happen. We’re explorers, we explore.”

Jon brought an arm up and around Callie to hold her close. His eyes were still closed as he spoke. "I know Callie, I know. But these weren't names on a piece of paper, these were people I know and like." His eyes opened and he looked at Callie. "That could have been you, Callie."

Callie looked into Jon’s eyes. “It could, but it wasn’t. I know that doesn’t make this any easier, but decisions we make on a daily basis can have any number of outcomes.”

"Callie, I am well aware of that and you are right, it doesn't make it easier. I can't just wall off my emotions like a Vulcan. I replay this in my head and think it would have been so easy to say no."

“Imzadi, don’t!” Callie offered a caring gaze. “Don’t punish yourself for this, it could have been us on the holodeck with Shran in charge and it still could have turned out the same!”

Jon smiled warmly at Callie. "I love you so much Callie. Thank you for being here and your love and support, along with your words of wisdom. I would be lost without my darling and I'm forever grateful you came back into my life.''

“I’m glad I did too!” Callie smiled. “I never thought we’d end up with one child let alone two! This is a magical relationship for me, I’d be totally lost without you.” She kissed him lovingly. “Speaking of which where is Harry?”

"Wasn't he here when you got home?" Jon asked suddenly concerned for their son's well being.

“No he...” Callie paused and snapped her fingers as she remembered. “It’s okay, he’s staying over with a friend from class tonight, the family are doing a sleepover. He’s not too far away if he gets homesick.”

"Whew! Glad you remembered Callie." Jon said with a relieved smile. "That means we can be grown ups and have grown up food and no more chickie nuggets at least for one night." He said with a smile. "In fact, I'll even cook and you can help."

“Agreed!” Callie nodded. “I could really go for some steak, or maybe Gammon, or Pork chop, maybe sausages?” She grinned. “Hell I’m having a mixed grill.” She noticed the look on Jon’s face. “You keep telling me to go with what my body wants, and that’s what I want!”

"Yes, I do and if that's what you want, we'll fix it. Just one question do you think you can eat all you just mentioned? I mean we can fix smaller portions." Jon smiled. "Let's do this!"

“Definitely smaller portions” Callie nodded. “I think I’ll go with mash potatoes with that, I don’t fancy chips.”

Yes, definitely mash potatoes which means we need gravy as well." He looked to Callie, "This is going to be fun!"

“Not as much fun as dessert!” Callie smiled a wry smile before heading into the kitchen.

"Oh yes, the delectable and delicious Callie ala mode." Jon answered with a smile as he followed Callie into the kitchen

Callie couldn’t help but grin. “It seems like a long time since we last did this, we normally just get something from the replicator after work. Brings back memories of when we used to do this regularly."

Jon nodded as he began pulling out what they would need. "I know Callie. maybe we can begin this again as a weekly tradition? Harry is old enough to help and have a say in what he wants. Though something tells me, we better stock up on chicken nuggets." Jon said with a laugh.

“He’ll soon look like a chicken nugget!” Callie grinned. “I'll have to see what else he’d like to eat. Maybe something turkey, it’s similar to chicken.”

"You said that right! Harry the chicken nugget boy." Jon chuckled. Their son loved chicken nuggets. But got boring eating them every meal. "That good Callie, even some mac and cheese or have him try hot dogs, bologna. Give him some variety."

“Variety is the spice of life as they say!” Callie grinned. “Harry is a wonderful boy, I’m so happy we adopted him.”

"So, they say Callie." Jon agreed. "Harry really is a wonderful boy and I'm glad we adopted him as well. He's got a hell of a mom."

Callie blushed. “Thank you Jon. I just hope us having a baby won’t make him feel jealous.”

"You are welcome, Callie, it is true and why should Harry feel jealous? He should feel special for he has the special duty of being big brother and protector."

“Maybe I’m just being a worry wart!” Callie grinned. “I spend so much time sorting other people’s worries, I don’t think about mine until I get home.”

"Callie." Jon said, stopping his prep work. "You are not a worry wart. What you are is a loving, caring and concerned mother. Who wants the best for her son. Now, stop worrying and get over here and help me." Jon finished a huge smile on his face as he gently teased Callie.

“Yes Sir” Callie grinned as she joined Jon, so where do you want me to start?”
