Aftermath

Mission:
The Borg Encounter
Location: CMO's Quarters
To say the last few weeks had been hellish would be an understatement. Between the encounter with the Borg and the previous encounter with the species inhabiting various crewmembers minds Sam felt as though she'd mentally and physically run a marathon, then run one back again for good measure.
The starbase loomed into view through the windows of her cabin, causing Sam to pause in her writing and regard the sanguine station as it hung suspended as though by a gossamer thread in space. She could understand how less developed species considered space travel as 'magic'. Without an understanding of the laws of space, time and physics such things as starships and space stations would only be the things of fantasy.
There would be the usual crew changes once they docked, crewmembers receiving new orders would depart and few crew arrive to replace them. Saving the file she was working on the CMO took a moment to review the changes. Sachzny was leaving, they were receiving a new Intel officer, and a plethora of junior officers would be continuing on their posting cycle through the fleet.
Sam sipped the coffee and mused for a moment on the changes and ruminating on how things were going to change on the Washington. Things always changed, and that in itself was part of the reason it was so exciting. Nothing progressed without change. Hopefully the changeover would be smooth for all. With a smirk the CMO started scheduling initial transfer medicals. Most crew tried to avoid them like the plague. Not on her ship, not in her sickbay.
Another slurp of the strong coffee and Howard felt the sluggish kick of caffeine finally make its way to her mind, clearing away the fog of fatigue at least for a little while. Long enough to finish the lengthy report and papers related to Jon's surgeries and after care following his assimilation by the Borg. Starfleet medical had already requested a full report, along with one of the leading medical journals requesting a paper about her experience performing such an intricate and delicate surgery.
So much to write and remember, so little coffee.
