The Irish Rascal

Mission: Family

Aidan O'Connor was the oldest of eleven children from a well-known StarFleet family. His family had served in StarFleet dating back to the early days before the Federation was founded, when Capt Archer and others explored on the old NX vessels. He actually had a model of the NX-01 that he kept in his quarters, something he built as a child. Like his parents and grandparents, and many of his siblings, Aidan was an engineer, and in his estimation, and that of others, quite a good one.

He had been back home in Ireland visiting his family over Christmas when he had been summoned to San Francisco. He didn't mind, nor did his family, as it gave him a chance to escort his two youngest sisters back to the Academy before he made his way to StarFleet Command. He had been made jubilant when he was given orders for his new assignment, as Assistant Chief Engineer aboard a Sovereign class ship, and the Washington no less. It had to be the second most noteworthy vessel of the class, behind the Enterprise of course, and he knew his siblings would all be jealous of this new posting.

He stopped over to a communications terminal and sent a brief message to his parents, letting them know where he had been assigned. They both beamed and gushed with pride. He promised to speak with his sister Maeve upon transporting up to McKinley Station and told them he would follow up with them once he got settled. He made his way over to the transporter station with his travel orders and made his way to McKinley Station where the Washington was currently docked.

Upon materializing on the transporter pad on the station he was instantly greeted by a young female junior security officer. "C’mere to me you big fella. Give your sister a hug." The two siblings embraced for a moment before breaking the hug. "You told mum and da you have been posted to the Washington. That is straight bangers, it is. You know that ship gets all sorts of craic assignments all over the whole Federation and beyond. Hope you had a chance to say goodbye to everyone, because chances are you won't be around to see anyone again anytime soon." She smiled and punched him in the shoulder playfully.

"Jealousy doesn't look good on you Maeve" he said playfully. "This is just the sort of posting I needed to get me moving up the ranks. I'll be a commander in no time."

"Don't be a gobshite, you eejit" Maeve blurted. "We both know you are looking forward to seeing what the cailíní situation is on the ship, for some new conquest."

"You sound like mum. Next you are going to tell me I need to settle down and get married" he said with a hint of exasperation as they continued to walk.

"Settling down might not be the worst thing for you" Maeve replied.

"We'll see what happens. I may have my hands full with work for a bit" Aidan replied as they approached the airlock. He hugged his sister again. "I'll check in with you again after I report for duty. Tell mum not to worry so much." He slowly walked away from his sister and headed in, leaving the station and boarding the Washington. He needed to find the senior officer aboard the ship to report in. He expected that the be the captain or the XO, but he couldn't be sure. It was time for him to start a new adventure.
