Getting to know you better

Mission:
Training Cruise
Location: Counselor’s Office
Walking into her office with Freud in tow, Callie motioned for the young Cadet to have a seat. “Welcome to my office, once you get one of your own you will have the choice of how it’s decorated, for me I prefer the creature comforts, hence low lighting, the cushions and throws, a corner for younger family members to play, and of course use of the replicator to make people more comfortable. Please feel free to use it as well.”
"Do you see a lot of children or families together serving on a starship? I have to admit, I am not great with child psychology. I am much better dealing with adults and the problems of StarFleet personnel than young people. I know that it might sound bad, but honestly, I'm not good with kids. I'm not fond of kids, especially the preadolescents" Freud replied.
Callie nodded. “It’s not a requirement to be good with children, I’m a mother myself so I’m used to dealing with the young ones. As a counselor, you may find yourself in a position where you might be the only person available in an emergency, or it could be just you depending on where you’re stationed, so you would need to be prepared to deal with children if it became necessary.”
"I know, I just have difficulty with them. I would think being a mother might help me, but I'm not prepared for that" Emilia responded.
“Fair enough” Callie smiled and nodded. “So, tell me about your experience so far, your studies at the Academy.”
"Ready to start some analysis?" Emilia questioned with a smile. "To be honest, I have had a generally normal life, and my time at the Academy has been enjoyable. I think the only thing that might be difficult is just living up to the expectations placed upon me. You know, family legacy and all that."
Callie nodded. "I can imagine it must be quite daunting. Nothing like a family legacy to live up to. Well you can relax, I don't base my assessments on anything but how you perform on the job."
"I appreciate you saying that. Honestly, coming from a family with such a legacy and working in the field is quite daunting" Emilia replied, offering a gentle smile.
"I take it being a Counselor is something you always wanted to do?" Callie gave Freud a curious look. "Or did you bend to pressure in becoming what your family wanted you to be?"
"To tell the truth, it might be a little of both. I think I always wanted to be a counselor, but it was also expected. I mean, I'm a Freud. Everyone expects me to be a counselor, and to be fairly infallible" Emilia responded. "Honestly, the real surprise was when I decided to join StarFleet. I don't think anyone saw that coming. I love being in space, serving on a starship, the idea of seeing things no one else has ever seen. I'm definitely the type that is looking to be like you, three of more pips on the collar."
Callie smiled. “In all honesty I’ve never been worried about rank, I’m in no rush to make Captain. I’m a Counselor, all that matters to me is helping others. It makes me happy to see others happy, my work is its own reward.”
Emilia offered a slight smile and an understanding head nod. "I feel that as well, but I still want to serve in StarFleet and I have the determination to command one day. I am more than happy and satisfied with being a counselor though, especially away from my family and their overbearing gaze."
Callie nodded. “In that case let’s get stuck into some work, shall we? I have a break in my schedule later on, so we’ll head to the bridge for a while during that time.”
"Sounds good to me" Emilia replied.
