Mission:
Cead Mile Failte
Location: Sickbay
Timeline: Morning after release from Sickbay
Walking into Sickbay Callie offered a warm smile as she walked over to Sam, she’d promised to return to Sickbay for a full check over to make sure there were no lingering problems from her ordeal.
“Morning Sam” she headed to the nearest biobed and took a seat. Truth be known her senses weren’t what they should be, she was hoping it was a temporary problem.
"Good morning Callie, how are you feeling?" It seemed an automatic response but wasn't intended as such, more a genuine query out of concern. She picked up a nearby tricorder and detected the small instrument housed in its nose to increase the machine's sensitivity. "Any headaches, nausea, dizziness?'
Callie offered a shake of her head. “No, nothing like that. I just…” she paused. “My senses are off, I’m foggy, unfocussed.” She sighed. “I don’t like it when this happens.”
"Off? Sounds like you're recovering from the several trauma that is still pretty fresh" Sam nodded kindly "hop up here and I'll have a look, but remember recovering from something like this will take time"
Callie nodded. “That’s true, as a Counsellor I would normally be telling my patients the same thing, especially after any sort of trauma. You know us Betazoids, we rely on our senses so much it’s like losing a limb when anything goes wrong.”
"Welcome to what the rest of us deal with every day" Sam chuckled as she activated the biobed sensors. "So it's just foggy and off? Dull telepathy?'
“More or less” Callie nodded. “My connection with Jon is still as strong as ever. I just don’t find it comfortable.”
Sam looked at the readings coming from the biobed on the monitor nearby, overlaying the results with Callie's baseline readings. "Hrmmm, your brain chemistry is still a little off, as is your blood work. Highened levels of stress hormones and a reduction is neurotransmitters" she looked at the readings again. "You been getting enough quality sleep?"
“I slept, it was a bit of a disturbed night. Too much going round in my head.” Callie shrugged her shoulders. “I half expected to wake up and find myself still in the planet.”
"This is gonna said jaded, but have you spoken with anyone about your experiences?" Sam asked gently, grabbing a few hyposprays. "Your readings are still off. Not massively, but it's not like you. Whatever your mind is dealing with, it's protecting itself by shutting down your senses"
Callie nodded. “I spoke to Jon first obviously, then this morning I spoke to Deanna, I wanted to thank her properly for helping me. I’ve asked her to teach me how to defend my mind from attack in the future, but she insisted I speak to Eislyn first. I went to see Eislyn straight afterwards, I’ll admit it wasn’t easy.”
Sam blew out a small breath of relief. Doctors made the worst patients and she was sore the trend was the same with counsellors. "I'm glad you're talking to someone, it will help your mind process what's happened. Given that, and some light duties that doesn't cause stress, and I'm confident things will improve with time"
Callie nodded. “I hope so, I feel unbalanced, and off centre with my abilities not fully functioning. I guess I’m going to have to rely more on my intuition to fill the gaps for now.”
Sam smiled gently "what your telepathy may be missing, your skills make up for in spades. However I would say that you definitely need to take it easy for a while"
Callie nodded. "I'll do my best, but I'm not going to sit around doing nothing or I'll go stir crazy."
"I didn't say stop working, I believe 'taking it easy' was the prescription" Sam smirked, but completely understood where Callie was coming from. "You need time to recover"
Callie nodded. "I know." she smiled warmly. "Thanks for everything Sam, you do so much for all of us."
"Don't short change yourself there. Now go and get some rest. I'll give you a mild sedative to take if you need it, otherwise pop back tomorrow afternoon and we'll see how you're going" Sam helped Callie off the biobed.
“I’ll pass on the sedative thanks Sam, and I’ll see you tomorrow.” Callie smiled warmly then headed on her way.
