Mission:
Wounds From the Mirror
Location: Intelligence Office
Timeline: Current Mission
Kate walked in front of a makeshift sensor system walking in a fashion that she didn't usally walk. No matter how hard she tried though, she couldn't set it off. Kate giggled to herself and walked to a console near the wall in the intellignce department office. She kept pulling up different sensor images of various crew members that walked through the corridors of the ship over the past few months. She also pulled personal files from recordings of several people that were now members of the crew, gathering intelligence on their mannerisms, the way they carried themselves, and she even had an analisys going on their speech patterns. One-by-one, she began loading those data points into a new detection program she was working on.
She activated a holographic transmitter and pulled the badge off her chest a moment, repacing it with a replica of the Captains Badge that she put on her chest.
"Computer, activate Shran in a Pan," Kate said.
Suddenly, Kate's body was overlayed with a wireframe grid followed by a small forcefield, followed by a Starfleet Uniform gradient that gradually emerged as the Captains uniform, and then the skin overlayed on the wireframe a moment later. Where Kate was standing, was a perfect replica of Shran. Kate walked over to the mirror and Shrans reflection smiled back at her.
"Kate," Kate said to herself in her best Shran impersionation. "You've gone too far this time! I'm pointing both my antennaes at you!" Shran paused a moment and tapped his fingers as his head tilted slightly toward the celing as if confused. "An-- Antenna? Antennae? Antennas?"
Suddenly an alarm went off behind her and the room simulated Red Alert.
The computer voice began repeating.
Imposter Detected, Intelligence Office. Imposter Detected, Intelligence Office.
Shran turned around and smiled. He started jumping up and down happily as Kates voice emenated from Shrans mouth. "It works it works!"
Ben had been standing off to one side as Kate replicate the image of the captain. It had been long hard working loading images of the captain, Commander Grayson, Commander Celes and Dr. Howard into the computer and then to get it to recognize the image as an imposter. They had had many failures but now it seemed they had achieved success.
He clapped loudly as the computer detected the imposter. "Way to go Kate! Try it with Commander Celes or Dr. Howard, we have to make sure it recognizes imposters for all of them." He pointed out.
Shran shredded an air-guitar in the middle of the room before reverting back to Kate. She kept her combadge on the table so that the computer wouldn't equate her for who she really is between holograph image projection swaps and she reset the alarm. The images of Celes was next, followed by Howard, and even Commander Grayson went through the system and it was able to catch, through memory, everyone that acted different from the way they usually are.
"Okay we need to fine tune false positives as well. So far, I haven't been able to get the computer to think I'm not me no matter what I do. I guess it's just knowing me too well." Kate said. "Anything else you want to try?"
Ben thought for a moment then replied. "We need to run Lieutenant Imik and Commander Raven - Grayson, to make sure there aren't any holes in the system. See if the computer can spot the imposter." He smiled at her. "I don't think you'll br able to fool the computer. Your personality is too well ingrained in its memory file of you.."
Kate kept tapping away at the console while loading Ben's recommendations into the system.
"Okay, it's compiling that baseline into the system as we speak. Kate spun around and hugged Ben. "Sorry for seeming off the last few weeks. Getting disected really took it out of me but I'll be back to regular soon."
Ben hugged her back, "Kate, it is perfectly fine. You had a very good reason for being off and you are right being disected will do that to you.. I just want you to always remember I love you and I will always be here and support you. As for being back to your regular self, don't rush, take your time. I'm not going anywhere."
"Well, I think we have a good program set up to help screen out imposters. I am going to call it the CAPtcha!" Kate giggled. She kept hugging Ben and nodded. "Thanks for being so understanding. Do you think we should just implement the program or call Shran first?" Kate went to tap her badge but nothing happened. She then giggled and picked her badge back off the table where she dropped it to do the tests. She tapped the badge.
Ben had his arms around Kate as she talked. "of course sweetie. I love you and being understanding and supportive is part of that." He nodded in agreement, "It is a great program and I like the name." He paused for a moment and his tone grew serious. "We definitely tell the captain, we don't want to surprise him with this."
Kate tapped a button on the console after stepping away from Ben. She suddenly looked like Shran again! "Okay! Ready to tell him!" She joked. She tapped a few buttons on the LCARS panel again and the facade of Shran faded away while she giggled.
