Mission:
Holding Pattern Hijinks
Location: USS Washington
The Washington had just arrived in the Denali system, ahead of schedule for their rendezvous with the Kobayashi for a resupply. As they had nowhere to be, Shran had given the crew the opportunity to seek out a little R&R aboard the ship. It wasn't what he wanted to give them, but a stop at Risa just wasn't in the cards at this time.
Shran looked forward to taking some time for himself. He knew much of the crew needed it more than he did though. It had been several weeks since the incident with his Mirror and his army of brutal deviants. He was concerned that his crew had dealt with a great many traumatic events recently, especially the senior officers. And a few of them had been seriously mauled in this encounter with the Mirrors.
The Andorian strolled around his quarters, unsure as to what to do at the moment. Like most StarFleet captains, he didn't take a lot of time for himself. Perhaps he could take some time to read or spend some time on the holodeck. But first, he was going to eat. He could just eat in his quarters, but a meal in the captain's dining room seemed like the right option.
He adjusted his tunic and exited, making his way to the dining room. When he arrived, the porter seemed surprised to see him. "Captain. Um, what can I get you?"
"Anything you would recommend?" Shran queried.
"Depends on your mood I suppose. I think we can make you anything you want" the porter replied.
The doors opened again, and Deanna entered. "Thought I'd find you here."
"Care to join me?" Shran offered.
"Sure. What they got tonight in the captain's special eatery?" she teased.
"You feeling alright?" he asked, not used to seeing Deanna this way.
"Honestly, no. I should probably see Callie, but she has a lot on her plate at the moment. But you know, the crew is still on edge since everything with the Mirrors."
"Yes, well" Shran stammered. "Perhaps something to drink first. I'm thinking something light, perhaps some tea."
"How about some Andorian redbat?" Deanna queried.
"I've never known you to enjoy redbat" Shran replied.
"Honestly, not a big fan, but I was suddenly remembered that story Dax told us. Her and Benjamin watched a science officer on the Livingston eat eight helpings. I don't know how anyone could manage such a feat" Deanna replied gleefully.
Shran couldn't help but chuckle. "I have to admit, that is quite a lot. Most I have ever seen anyone eat is three helpings, and that was on Andoria" Shran said with a smile. "I think that is definitely off the menu for tonight. I'm not feeling particularly in the mood for native food. Maybe some oskoid, give you a taste of home."
"If you want to eat something lavish, stick with the human delicacies. Caviar, pate, champagne, and perhaps some sort of decadent chocolate dessert" Deanna said with a smile.
The two continued to talk and laugh for nearly two hours before they both left to their respective quarters, a date for a holodeck get together scheduled for the next morning. As Shran readied for bed, he could only hope that the rest of the crew was able to use this little respite in the same restful and productive manner as he was.
