Dr Samantha Howard reclined in the high backed chair in her office, looking at the every growing stack of reports that seemed to be awaiting her attention at the end of her desk. Everything from equipment requisitions from staff, roster adjustments, suggestions and requests for training and/or resources, and there was a sneaky side order of coffee that someone had deposited there now long gone cold.

Sam rubbed her eyes - she'd been at this for hours but it was the price she paid for not keeping on top of her paperwork. The Captain would not accept 'I was busy' as an excuse for reports not submitted or other administrative duties not performed. It was the behind the behind the scenes work that took the time, the reports, the restocking of supplies, the repairs of equipment and training. It wasn't pretty, glamorous or even exciting, but it was the everyday requirement of a Starfleet department head. She would find the time to get the paperwork done, no, she would make the time.
