Mental Evaluations

Mission:
Breen in Paradise
Location: USS Washington
Timeline: Shortly after DS9 departure
Shran made his way down the corridor as he neared the counselor's office. He had made this walk many times, but he had to remind himself that he wasn't meeting with Estella this time. She was gone, severely injured and on her way to Earth. He was now dealing with a new counselor, a new officer, and she was an unknown variable to him, which annoyed him if he was being honest. He had read her service record, and to her credit, she was a solid counselor for all accounts. Being a joined Trill apparently increased her stature, and for Shran's two cents, the best feather in her cap was a glowing recommendation from his old friend Dax, who apparently in her current incarnation was a cousin to his new counselor. Perhaps that might make things easier.
He came to the door and hit the chime and waited patiently outside the door, his hands tucked firmly behind his back in a tight grasp. It was something he had picked up from Dax and now he simply did it unconsciously. Several moments passed and then suddenly the door opened and their stood a young Trill female.
"Captain Shran, a pleasure to meet you" she said as she extended her hand to greet him.
"Counselor" he said as he shook her hand briefly.
"You didn't have to come down here sir. I would have happily come to you. Please come in and take a seat."
Shran took a mental note at her desire to follow protocol and wondered how far this would go in regards to her treatment of her patients. "Counselor, I am pleased to meet you, but not for the reason you are here. I have a few questions regarding my officers" he said as he sat in a black cushion chair.
"Captain" she began as she moved and sat across from him, "I know you want your senior officers back to duty as soon as possible. I understand and respect that, but please understand, I can't rush this. Dr. Howard should be cleared by the time we reach Casperia Prime provided she doesn't have any setbacks. I feel confident she won't have any setbacks." She readjusted herself in her seat as she prepared to discuss the bigger case. "Commander Grayson will take longer. He is dealing with a great deal, and without breaching his confidentiality, he is showing some severe PTSD issues."
Shran had a severe frown on his face. "PTSD..."he began. "Counselor, I am aware of the medical regulations regarding mental health, and while I don't always agree with those regulations, I'm willing to defer to your authority on this matter for now. But understand, Cmdr Grayson isn't an officer on some remote outpost or in some office position, he is the Executive Officer of a frontline StarFleet vessel. All of my senior officers have PTSD to varying degrees. Many of us were in the war, and since then have seen more than our fair share of conflicts despite it being peace time. I require my XO. I am aware he may not return at 100% immediately, but even 75% is sufficient for Jon to do his job and do it well."
Eislyn hid her frustration and exasperation. Captains were always demanding. "I understand captain, and I appreciate you allowing me to do my job. I will get you your XO back as soon as possible, but I can't rush it. He'll be ready when he is ready."
Shran wasn't going to push things further. It wouldn't solve anything. "Very well counselor. I thank you for your work, and look forward to getting Samantha back to active duty. Do what you can for Jon. Welcome aboard" and with that, Shran stood, straightened his tunic, and exited.
