A special request

Posted on Fri Nov 19th, 2021 @ 10:58am by Captain Shran dh'Klar & Commander Jonathan Grayson & Lieutenant Commander Callie Raven-Grayson

Mission: Breen in Paradise
Location: Ready room

{ON}

Having considered her options and spoken with Jon, Callie had requested a meeting with both Shran and Jon to discuss young Harry’s future. Arriving at the ready room she took a deep breath before pressing the chime.

Jon saw Callie's name on the schedule to see him and Shran and knew what it was about...adopting Harry. The little five year old boy Shran and the others had rescued from Breen experiments.

Shran was at the replicator about to order beverages when the door chime rang. "Enter" he said and the doors opened and entered Callie.

Walking in Callie offered a smile to both men as she approached Shran’s desk. “Captain I..” She looked towards Jon. “We need to discuss the possibility of submitting adoption papers to the Federation for Harry, the little boy you brought back to the ship. I know it can be something of a drawn out process hence why I’m bringing it up now.”

Jon nodded encouraging Callie to continue with her request for them to adopt Harry. Now it was time to see the Captain's reaction to the request.

Callie smiled as she looked at Jon before looking back at Shran.

Shran returned to his desk with beverages for himself and Jon and placed them down. "You wish to adopt the boy? Have we already determined that he is an orphan? I wasn't aware that such formalities had already been completed for these children."

"We do wish to adopt Harry sir and you are right the formalities haven't been completed as of yet. This is just sounding you out to see if you have any objections to us adopting Harry if it turns out we can." Jon replied crisply.

Callie nodded. “We fully intend on finding out if Harry has any family first Sir. If he doesn’t then we’d like to offer him the stability of having a family life with us.”

"If you want to do the leg work, and you feel ready for the responsibility of a child, then by all means. But I have to tell you, children change everything. They can bring all kinds of unpredictable aspects into your life, especially one that is full of surprises already being in StarFleet." Shran sat and sipped his drink.

"We know sir. Callie and i have discussed it and we feel we're ready to tackle this. One good think is Harry isn't an infant he can communicate with us, make his feelings known. He still has nightmares but they aren't as frequent or as severe." Jon answered Shran.

"If this is what you want to do, then by all means. I'll hold off on the congratulations until you have a more definite answer about things though."

Callie smiled and breathed a sigh of relief. “Thank you Sir. Once we’re sure one way, or the other we’ll submit the paperwork for your approval.”

"Best of luck to you both. I hope things turn out well." Shran stood and walked over and extended his hand to them both. His mind began to wander, the talk of children bringing thoughts of his own to the forefront of his mind. It had been some time since he had been able to return to Andoria and be with them. Such was the burden that came with StarFleet service for an Andorian.

"Thank you sir." Jon replied simply as he clasped Shran's hand in a firm handshake. "We'll just have to see what comes next and deal with it."

Callie waited for Jon to release Shran’s hand before shaking it as well. “Thank you Captain, I’ll keep my fingers crossed.”

Shran watched as Jon and Callie exited. He walked over to a self along the wall and looked at the images displayed there. He looked at the pictures of his family; pictures of his children and their mothers. It had been too long. He was resolved to get back to Andoria in the foreseeable future. In the meanwhile, perhaps a call home was in order.
