Visiting a friend

Posted on Wed Aug 24th, 2022 @ 9:22am by Lieutenant Commander Callie Raven-Grayson & Lieutenant Commander Shoniara T’ghann-Travis Dr

Mission: A Trip to Middle Earth
Location: Sickbay

With Shon in Sickbay Callie made her way to visit her friend, it seemed her expertise was needed in helping Shon. As she entered she made her way over to Shon’s biobed offering a warm smile.

“Hi Shon, how are you?”

“Callie!” Exclaimed Shon. “I am improving thank you. How are you? I see you are beginning to ‘show’ now. It makes you glow my friend. Thank you for coming I need your help.”

Callie smiled. “I’m always here for you Shon, you know that. As for showing considering I’m only 9 weeks I’m surprised!” Her stomach was only a tiny amount rounded but it showed slightly under her uniform. “Generally you don’t show before 12 weeks onwards. Anyway, I’m here to talk about what’s happened to you, can you tell me about it?”

“Gladly Callie. Well it all started out as a wonderful adventure, playing a character from my favorite author. The first skirmish, I shall call it that I was silly and opened myself up to getting wounded not thinking that the safety’s were off. Sam was so frightened she just seemed to clam up and I felt, well we all felt she needed protection. Then of course I began to think about the twins and tried to protect them as much …..oh I’m not sure if Seth told you, we are having twins. No one else knows but I will have to tell the Captain.” Shon sighed deeply. “Then the rest of it was brutal, no food, ice and snow. Then we found shelter under the mountain. Callie I…..” She had to stop.

“It’s alright Shon, just take it a step at a time.” Callie offered a warm smile as she pulled up a seat. “I sensed you were pregnant, I didn’t know you were having twins though. Congratulations! Now, let’s take this slowly. Tell me what happened to wind you up back in here.”

“It has changed, it was now about survival, every slice of our swords, every arrow from Phoenix, every thrust of T’Plana’s blade counts in our fight for life. We are loosing hope by this time..” Shon’s fists clenched and the look in her eyes showed that she was back there. “Sam sits by the fire, silent and introspective already lost in her own fear. Even the Captain is quiet, his mind trying to find a way out for us all alive.” Shon began to shake……”Then they attack, foul smelling Orcs and Goblins, Wargs and other unspeakable things. I try to find Sam, keep her behind me but there are too many of them and I loose sight of her, then I am down and I feel heat and steel slide into me. I feel it hit my spine and then feel nothing in my legs and…and I know my spine is broken.

Then we feel it, the ground shakes and the water in the lake moves, the heat begins to grow and the entrance to our cavern glows red like the gaping maw of hell. Our enemies run so we know well what is coming the demon of the old age. I am thinking I will never see my darling Seth again, how I want Shasta to grow up happy and guided by him….and..and I am thinking about my babies, how they will die, here with me. No chance of life.” Shon’s hand played across and caressed her stomach. “Then I think about Hela..and wonder if she has a hand in this her voice inside my head ‘there is only payment’ it said cold and clear.

The Captain produces his staff and at the very end the demon falls as does he into the abyss. My eyes are growing dim by this time and I can feel my blood, green and sticky surrounding me. I am near the end and the tragedy of it all is that we are in the holodeck, and I laugh as I close my eyes and feel my last heartbeat…..” Shon stopped talking her eyes closed and her breathing slow.

Callie sat and listened to every word without interruption. “You’re not there Shon, you’re out of that nightmare now. You are fine, your twins are fine, you have your lives to live with Seth and Shasta. You survived... don’t let your fears about Hela drive you from living your life.”

“I understand what you are saying Callie and I know you mean well but I sense Hela more and more. She was there on our recent holodeck trip, the one before the nightmare and, I suspect she had a hand in this latest horror and now, Callie I know she will claim a tribute and that it might be one, or both of my babies or, even Seth. No one is safe now, certainly not if they are a friend or more…” Shon let that last word sink in and grabbed Callie’s hand. “Help me Callie?”

Callie nodded as she took Shon’s hand. “Of course I will Shon. If you believe Hela is a threat to you, your family, and those aboard this ship then we should speak to Shran and Jon about it.”

“I agree Callie but there is no way to fight her, even her own kin could not bind her. I think I am going insane, I thought perhaps T’Planna could help but she needs a Vulcan healer.

Callie nodded. “If we can get a healer for T’Plana-Hath then maybe they can help you at the same time. In the meantime you need to fight Shon, you are not going insane! If Hela is really out to get you then she might be trying to drive you into sacrificing yourself, you have to be strong and fight for your family.”

“That’s a good idea Callie and I will fight if needs be. I have my family and new babies to protect, if our ‘adventure’ has shown me anything it is to never give up and life is worth the trouble. Thank you for your counsel.

Callie nodded. “My pleasure Shon. Don’t worry we’ll get you through this.” With a smile Callie headed on her way letting Shon get some rest.
