Hela on my Mind
Posted on Tue Aug 23rd, 2022 @ 2:07pm by Captain Shran dh'Klar & Lieutenant Commander Shoniara T’ghann-Travis Dr
Mission:
A Trip to Middle Earth
Location: USS Washington
As Shran was still on limited duty, he made his way to sickbay to kill two birds with one stone, getting off this limited duty and back to where he belonged, and also taking the opportunity to speak with some of his injured crew, specifically Shon. Shran had spent the better part of a day now considering options, and when it came down to it, he needed to speak with Shon before he could draw any real conclusions.
As he entered sickbay he could see that things were at the very least looking more like normal. Sickbay was back to looking like sickbay rather than a warzone, the medical staff was looking far more calm and collected, and the only patient that seemed to remain was in fact Shon, who appeared to look like she was at least on the surface, doing better. Shran made his way over to Shon to chat, "How are you doing?"
Shon saw the Captain making his way over and tried to sit up. Dr Perrim saw her and tutted. Having been on the receiving end of many of the doctor’s ‘tuts’ she lay back down. “Captain, I am feeling a lot better and bored lying here, although Dr Perrim says I should be able to return to our quarters tomorrow where my other jailers wait.” Shon smiled. “I will be using motor assist for a few weeks to help strengthen my spine but apart from that everything else….is fine.” She paused. “How are you Captain?”
"Medically speaking I am fine, though Sam has to clear me before I'm allowed to return to full duty. Jortho has already cleared me from a counseling perspective. I have a surprise for Sam that should be arriving soon. Ought to make her much happier, especially after all the recent craziness. ." Shran tried to give a comforting smile before continuing, "I am sure you will be happy to return to your quarters, even if it will be another prison unto itself. At least it is something more familiar and relaxing. I know it was like that for me." He hesitated before saying anything else.
“Captain I wanted to thank you for what you did down in that cavern defeating the Balrog.. I….I need to tell you two things. One, I am pregnant, with twins..” Shon paused in case the Captain had not heard her.. ”and two, I think Hela might have had a hand in our ‘adventure”. She waited.
Shran took in Shon's words and remained his usual unreadable self, though internally he was relieved that his thoughts on the holodeck misadventure were in line with hers. "Congratulations on the pregnancy. I hope everything goes well with it. As for the holodeck misadventure, I had come to suspect that Hela may indeed be involved in the situation somehow. I wanted to speak with you on the subject, as you would be directly involved. I believe you have a debt to be paid, and I suspect that Hela has a score to settle with me."
She nodded, “thank you for your congratulations Sir we are both very happy although Shasta does not yet know….. It would not
surprise me if Hela could manipulate time and space to create such conditions as were present in order to affect the holodeck. She wants to take her time and for us to suffer before she ultimately gets what she wants and I do not know how we can stop her. She will not demand my life but possibly the life of one who is closest to me, or my babies. What do you think Sir?”
"Your concern is warranted, but I am not certain your conclusion is definite. Hela will certain take her time, she seems to get sadistic pleasure in prolonging suffering, much as Loki did. I wouldn't say that your life is without jeopardy though. She could very easily take your life as appeasement for the debt. I tend to believe that will be the case to be honest, though when it will happen and under what conditions I cannot say. Our options are limited. Hela isn't the vain narcissist Loki was, so goding her into a preset trap becomes far more difficult. We will need to keep our guard up, but beyond that, we must simply wait for her to make a move, and we can try to plan our actions accordingly." Shran fell silent as he considered things. "We will eventually need to bring others into the loop, certainly Jon will need to be made aware fairly soon."
“If you remember sir she refused me when I offered my life to her, so, unless she takes me when I am pregnant…I must admit if it saves everyone else I am willing to go with her. After all it was my plea to restore my daughter to me that began all this and if, indeed she is responsible for the holodeck disaster she, I believe is quite capable of destroying the ship. To be honest sir I do not think she plays the long game.”
Shran shook his head in disagreement. "Earth mythology seems to contradict that. Hela seems to often play the long game, planning out several moves ahead, along with multiple contingencies. We will simply have to out duel her in the game of whits. As for her prize, I'm not willing to simply sacrifice you to appease her. We'll figure this out. I'll let you get some rest. I need to consider this situation further now that I know we are both on a similar mindset. Rest up."
With that Shran turned to leave, looking for Sam in hopes of being relieved of this medical hold up that was keeping him from full active duty.
