ON

Sachzny was slowly walking towards the Captains Office, in her mind she played over the talk she and Jon had had in her office about their link. Although she hadn't seen the Captain for some time, she now decided to call Jon and the pair go and talk to him. =^=Sachzny to Grayson, please join me on the bridge. I think we must talk to our Captain". Entering the turbo lift she gave it her destination and then waited for it to get there.

Hearing Sachzny's call, Jon replied instantly, =^= Grayson to Sachzny. I'm on my way. be there shortly.=^= As he ended the call, he thought on what Sachzny said, talk to the Captain. No doubt about the link they shared and their mutual desire to keep it.

Once she arrived on the bridge, she stopped and waited for Jon to arrive. Already she could feel his uncertainty, but only he could ask the Captain to reverse the command to sever their link.

Moments later, Jon arrived on the bridge. Exiting the lift he saw Sachzny already there and headed straight towards her. "Here I am. Have you been waiting long and are you ready to talk to the Captain about this?"

Sachzny shook her head, "No not long, and I think the sooner we talk to the Captain the sooner we will know". She pressed the chime and waited.

The officers entered the Ready room. Shran looked them over and could tell this was going to be more than a simple social call or official meeting. "What can I do for the two of you?" he asked in his usual moderate tone.

Jon gave a sideways glance at Sachzny before addressing the captain. "Captain, Sachzny and I wish to retain the link we share." He said getting right to the point of their visit. "We find it of great value and it has been useful in past. If we hadn't had the link, I might not be standing here right now." Jon said referring to the incident where he had been kidnapped by Romulans. Sachzny had found him using the link.

Bowing to her Captain, Sachzny gave a smile to Jon. "The Commander speaks the truth my Captain, I have also informed him that only you can defer or suspend the ruling that states that the link must be removed". She stood up and smiled at Shran, the man who was willing to marry her so he could free her. For this and many other acts, she was now devoted to him fully.

Shran sat at his desk, mixed emotions as he contemplated what had just been said. After a few moments, he posed a simple question to them both, "Do you both think you can handle it? It caused you both problems in the past, and keeping it now would obviously have repercussions, so I need honest answers from you both. Can you handle it?" He waited for them to answer, honestly a tad bit anxious.

Jon didn't rush an answer, that would be an insult to both Sachzny and Shran and they both deserved better than that. Finally after several seconds he spoke, "Yes, I can. I know Sachzny can sir. The problems you refer to weren't because of the link. The link just just highlighted them. It was a case of jumping to conclusions before finding out and knowing all the facts. I'm older and wiser now sir. I won't make the same mistake." He looked at Sachzny and then back to Shran. "Captain, the link has allowed me to fully understand Sachzny and the wonderful friend she is. I knew she was a good friend but the link shows me the depth of her loyalty to you, the ship and crew as well as to me along with the Onjas Republic and the sacrifices she has made. She truly is a remarkable person and I'm glad we're friends."

Like Jon, Sachzny waited and thought about her answer. "As an Ojnas, I was born with the link. I not only understand it, it is a vital part of my being". She faced her Captain openly, "You have used a form of the link yourself, did you not read my mind on my home world when we brought the Grand Council to the table?" She now stepped forward, " I believe the Commander is capable of controlling the link, but I would add a small proviso to my conclusion. He must submit himself annually to our Doctor, to check he is suffering no side affects".

Jon looked at Shran as Sachzny added her proviso. "I agree to that if it allows me to keep the link which has become a vital part of me."

Shran folded his hands together in a point against his face, obviously mulling over their words and so much more. The silence in the room was deafening, the tension rising with every second. Finally Shran broke his silence, "As StarFleet officers we knowingly journey space to seek out new life and civilizations, to explore, to understand, and to be accepting of other cultures even when we might not fully understand them. I was aware of this even before I went to the Academy, and as a human, I know this is part of your very core. Sachzny, you may not have known that, but you willingly joined this crew and promised to abide by the rules and regulations of StarFleet and the Federation, and while you may not have known it at the time, with that came new friends, and even eventually new family, be they blood or not. My great grandfather was the captain who made the first contact with humans, and he always said that, 'the pinkskins are capable of greater feats than any species ever encountered.' You are both of unquestionable character. Despite the fact that I am your captain, I view you both as friends, and though we are not of the same blood, I would go so far as to say you are family as well. I trust that you both can handle this. Sachzny, you will provide me with any information I may need in this matter, and Jon, make sure you see the doctor so she can get a baseline scan for her records." Shran cracked a smallest of smiles on his stoic face. "Now enough of this. I believe you both have duties to attend to."

Jon stood there as Shran made his observations and it took him a moment to realize that the Captain was allowing them to keep the link he and Sachzny shared. "Yes sir! I'll do it and thank you sir!" He babbled in excitement and gratitude. "You won't be disappointed. Your faith and trust will be rewarded sir."

"I don't doubt it" replied Shran, a small but visible smile on his face.

Stepping forward slightly, Sachzny again bowed. "You once before placed your reputation and your command behind you, and fought to save me through marriage. For this and many other selfless acts I have pledged myself to you, I will never forget you nor turn my back to you. You word on this will be final for me, I trust you to make a fair and honest choice with the facts placed before you". She now stepped back and bowed again, she knew her Captain would do what was best for everyone concerned.

"Not sure what if anything we need to do at this point, but I'd say we have a mission to consider. We have a colony to check on before we push into unexplored and unclaimed space. I'll need you both at your best as always. Let's get back to our duties." Shran stood and looked at both officers. He knew they could handle this, even if not everyone would ever understand it. But he'd leave explanations to them. He followed them out onto the bridge and moved to his command station, Celes returning to Ops, Sachzny and Grayson heading to the turbolift.
