Holoventing

Posted on Thu Jan 25th, 2024 @ 10:28am by Captain Shran dh'Klar & Lieutenant Inara Senn

Mission: Hard Earned Peace
Location: Holodeck 3

Inara walked into the holodeck and spoke. "Computer, load new holodeck program. Designation Stress Relief: Inara four. Restrict to user Inara Senn." She noted and she began to create a holographic reproduction of Hela.

"Computer, put this into an arena with weapon racks consisting of blunt historical weapons, bats, pipes, historic earth firearms, phasers, disruptors. Also give the Hela holoform the following personality." She noted as she programmed it to be a real bitch. She walked to the weapon racks when all was said and done and picked up a Louisville Slugger.

"Activate program." Inara walked towards Holo-Hela with the bat.

The holographic Hela gave a wry smile, "Oh look, the pitiful Inara has a weapon. Are you angry Inara? Do you think you can harm me?"

"I created you as a stress relief, and to get you gods out of my system now that you've decided to leave us alone. And now you have nine innings with me." She swung her bat hard on her.

The bat impacted the holographic Hela, who remained unmoved and unharmed. "Yes, you attempted to create an outlet for your internalized rage. How typical of you to want to lash out against those you scapegoat. Do you think this will solve anything for you? You are like a child, always blaming others and running away from your problems." The hologram had a wooden bat appear in her hand and she swung and hit Inara in her side, just below the ribs and just above her hip. The hologram laughed in glee hearing and seeing Inara suddenly in great pain, "I suppose you had that coming to you. I believe humans have a saying, something about being careful what you wish for" she said with a vile grin.

"Wait a sec, you are not supposed to hit back. You're a stress outlet. Ow... Computer status of holodeck safeties?"

"Holodeck safeties offline per instructions" the computer responded.

The holographic Hela struck Inara again, this time on her left wrist, shattering the bone. "I am sure that hurts, but it is what you deserve. You keep hurting people, and you need to be punished. That is why you drew me to you, your self-destructive nature, and your desire to seek vengeance...on yourself." The hologram began to laugh maniacally.

"Who are you to judge me?" Inara noted. "I keep on losing everything in my life. You have everything. You're a god. And you think you can judge me? You have to understand my pain to even comprehend it." Inara noted. "Every person I have ever become friends with vanishes or dies right before my sight. Why don't you feel it for one year, Hela? Why don't you feel this shattered arm? I can't get close to anyone." She held her arm. "I can't bear it if I lose anyone again. That's why I am better off alone. You don't feel pain, you don't feel hurt, and yet, your kind has the unmitigated gall to judge us. I don't want anyone!!! I don't want anything more that those fate creatures would take from me."

Hela continued to laugh at Inara. "For a scientist, you seem to jump to conclusion quite easily. You act like you have nothing."

"All I have is my pitiful worthless life, and it's something you haven't taken from me yet for some reason I cannot explain. Why? I ask why? Have I failed as a woman?" She growled. "Computer end program."

The Hela character continued laughing at the crumpled Inara until it vanished, along with all the holographic weapons, leaving Inara on the unpowered hologrid. "You seek out personal pain don't you" said a voice coming from the holodeck entrance. The woman had a regal look to her despite wearing what appeared to be a fencing suit.

"No, the holodeck safeties malfunctioned during a little... Ow... Venting program..." Inara mentioned. "Can you help me to sickbay?"

Deanna looked at Inara for a moment. She didn't have to be a telepath to know that Inara wasn't telling the truth. But it was obvious that Inara was in need of medical attention. "Yes lieutenant, I think I will." She walked over and assisted Inara up and began to walk her to sickbay. As she did, she gently telepathically probed her. From an intelligence perspective, it was fascinating what she was seeing. From a human perspective, it was tragic. "You do seem to have bad luck. I suggest something a bit less dangerous moving forward."

Inara would have said something about poking around in other people's minds. But in this case, she just wanted to get to sickbay. "Oh, you don't think? Out of all the people on this ship, the Nordic Goddess of Death takes an interest in me. I simply wanted to kick the bitch's ass, and even that didn't go over very well. Congratulations, Commander. You've met a modern blasphemer, and quite possibly, one day, I'm going to be imprisoned by the Federation for my heresy."

Deanna couldn't help but chuckle a bit. "I don't think you are the only person on this ship that Hela had an interest in, though you certainly seemed to have drawn her attention. I might suggest a different means of de-escalation in the future rather than blowing your top when such a person attempts to provoke you. As for being a modern heretic, I don't think you are in any danger of imprisonment, at least not by the Federation. I would suggest you avoid offering your theological thoughts to Bajorans and a few others, but otherwise I think you'll be just fine."

As she finished talking, they arrived at sickbay. "Here we are lieutenant. If I may, one additional bit of advice. I know you have been under a great deal of stress, but rather than the violent outbursts, however cathartic they may be, perhaps channel all of that emotion into something a bit safer, and perhaps creative. I myself enjoy painting as a means to stress relief. I've even tried painting the captain, though he likes to grumble about it. Just a thought. I'll leave you here in the capable hands of the medical staff." She offered a smile and then made her way out, leaving Inara to be tended to by the nurses and Dr. Tarja, who appeared to be the doctor on duty.
