Meet the captain

Posted on Sun Apr 5th, 2020 @ 4:47am by Lieutenant Cassia Cavendish & Captain Shran dh'Klar

Mission: Unto Darkness, Light
Location: USS Washington
Timeline: Current

The shuttle ride had been long and Cassia had to sit on her fingers several times when the pilot made small mistakes in his actions. She had to repeatedly tell herself that this was not her place. And once she got to the Washington she could boss as many shuttle pilots around as she wanted. But now she was here, her bags stowed and her feet took her to the ready room beside the bridge.

Cassia hit the chime and waited.

From the bridge Lt Celes looked at this new officer who was waiting for the captain to grant her access to the Ready Room. She sensed professionalism, nervousness, and a touch of fear, and then she took note that this female officer was Betazoid, or at least partially so and pulled back. It was rude to be so forward, even if the captain was more open than most regarding telepaths using their abilities. She saw the door open and the officer enter, the door closing behind her. She made a note to speak with this officer in the near future. She shifted a bit in the command chair and resettled herself.

Inside the Ready Room Shran sat at his desk, his attention focused on the material he was apparently reviewing on the computer terminal, but to the keen observer not unaware of the female officer that had entered his office. Before the female could say anything, he spoke, his eyes still upon the computer, "Take a seat lieutenant. I assume you are my new Chief Navigation Officer. Nice of StarFleet to get you here, though later than what I would have preferred" his tone even-keeled, with a hint of sternness.

"Unfortunately Captain, my prior posting was delayed in returning to port. Drunk Klingons. " Cassia stood at attention. "Lieutenant Cavendish reporting for duty, Sir."

Shran reached out and took the PADD. He hit the button and began to review the material. "Normally Cmdr Grayson would have met with you first upon your arrival, but due to your late arrival he is currently on the planet below." The Andorian looked up from the PADD and looked at the officer. He stood and walked around his desk, sizing her up as humans would say. "Not to worry lieutenant, I know all too well the perils of working with Klingons. Hopefully you took advantage of your time with them to enjoy their cuisine. The food leaves something to be desired, but the drink is top notch, as is their camaraderie. Don't you agree?" he asked, obviously probing.

"While I agree their food is on par with Breen Prison rations, their drink makes me ill as well." Came the reply."If i ever have to escort drunk Klingons home again, it will most likely be too soon. I believe Engineering is still cleaning blood wine from the Helm Console on the Victory. Can't turn it into a museum with such stench."Cassia was not one just to agree with someone because of their Rank. 2 years in a hellish icehole had taught her to stand on her own two feet.

Shran smirked ever so slightly as he stood behind the pilot. "We all have our personal tastes." He moved slowly back into her field of vision, remaining standing as he leaned slightly on his desk. "I see you are a survivor of Breen captivity. Takes a certain type to be able to do that. Betazoids aren't found of cold, and humans have their limits as well. StarFleet has cleared you for duty, but I still will want you to give Dr. Howard the chance to look you over per regulations as soon as she returns, and the counselor as well. I like to have more hands on evaluations." He knew that wouldn't sit well with her, and her reaction would be telling. "In the meanwhile, I suggest you stow away your gear in your quarters, perhaps get yourself a meal, and get to know your flight staff. Lt. L'Rissa is your immediate subordinate and she is an ace pilot like yourself. She has served the longest aboard here of your officers. Any questions or comments?"

"No Sir." She replied calmly. "I will make sure I am on duty as soon as possible."

"Very good lieutenant. Dismissed." Shran watched as she exited, confident he had another solid officer aboard his vessel.

Cassia left the Ready Room and headed to the turbolift with a nod to the officer in the centre chair. She would go, unpack and get started on her job.
