Mission: Unto Darkness, Light

The counselor's hand shook slightly as she held her phaser and slid it into her belt. She hadn't had to use one since her last mission with her father and brother. While Estella had come to terms with things, she'd never been able to fully shake the unease she felt when it came to the use of her phaser. Then, up until that mission, she hadn't taken a life. Even out of necessity, if she could help it. While she'd been screened and the proper assessments and clearances given thereafter, there were still parts of her that never felt quite whole again.

Then, did anyone feel completely whole after losing a loved one? Let alone someone that they felt completed them?

That perhaps was what made this mission a bit unnerving for her. The simplicity of it. For that was how things were to be with that mission too. There had been no talks of war, but in fact, the opposite.

This away mission was not so different in nature. So why then did she have reservations about it?

Perhaps it was nothing more than old ghosts resurfacing. Because if the counselor was going to be truly honest, the borg both fascinated and frightened her with their, insect like, hive mind, behavior. Just as the Romulan's harsh culture made her shudder like the thought of a violent communist dictator.

Smoothing out her uniform and double checking her belt, she straightened. Then left her quarters to join the others.
