The Colony

Posted on Mon Mar 17th, 2025 @ 8:50pm by Captain Shran dh'Klar & Commander Jonathan Grayson & Lieutenant Inara Senn

Mission: Genetic Purity
Location: USS Washington

The doors to the turbolift opened and Jon and Inara arrived on the bridge. Shran looked back to see the officers, "Excellent. Jon, Inara, it would seem that this little scavenger hunt Inara sent us on has borne fruit of such. Deanna has been scanning like crazy."

"I was a little surprised to find things here considering the radiation in the asteroid belt. But once we were through that, we located a sleeper ship in high orbit. From what we can tell, the ship is functional, but nobody in aboard, at least not conscious. Initial scans of the planet indicate that two other vessels landed. So far, Inara seems to have found us something rather interesting."

"It is this sleeper ship in orbit that concerns me at the moment. Something about this is giving me thoughts of Kirk and the Botany Bay" Shran commented, sharing his concerns. Jon, I'd like you to take Deanna and Inara over there and take a closer look at the ship. Take whatever medical and security you think appropriate as well. Let's be cautious."

"Of course, sir, we'll go over it with a fine-tooth comb. We'll check everything from flight plan, if any to the number of people aboard." Jon replied. We'll take Shon and Phoenix with us."

"We need to be cautious, captain. The people who escaped with these ships were brilliant pariahs. The twenty first century was filled with treachery and betrayal. I'm expecting they'd have technology that the world at the time considered racist. And that is unsettling in and if itself."

"Just what technologies are we likely to be dealing with Inara?" Jon asked.

"Quantum singularities, advanced nuclear fusion, genetic engineering, quantum entanglement, artificial intelligence, stem cells, gene therapy. The twenty first century was a minefield of ideology. Radicals wanted to 'decolonize math' so they created common core, so everyone could be equally stupid. Nuclear energy was shunned because it was not 'green'. A hive of infinite ignorance and idiotic combinations, if I could paraphrase that adorable Vulcan philosophy."

"You are assuming these people will be relics from the Eugenics War? Shran questioned. "As if I needed another reason to be concerned with thoughts of the Botany Bay."

"I think the idea of being cautious over there is the right option. I think the captain is right to feel nervous, and Inara is only stating the many reasons we should be concerned. I won't jump to the conclusion that we will find relics of the Eugenics War, but I won't be surprised if we find something or somebody over there that was looking to play God, as they might say on Earth" Deanna observed.

"Get Kate in the loop for this as well. Have her seek out all the information she can regarding the ship and anything else for the period once you determine that" Shran suggested.

"Yes sir." Jon replied dutifully, making a mental note to include Kate in this investigation and see what she could turn up.

Inara then looked at Shran. "We did remember those torpedoes before we left spacedock? Because I can't rule out that these people haven't matched the Federation's technological development, and if their ancestors pulled off the first recorded attempt at space piracy in known human history." She noted. "Stealing sleeper ships meant for the rich and infamous... and escaping what they thought was a doomed world."

"It would surprise me if they have. But let's not jump to conclusions one way or another" Deanna replied.

"Take a look at that ship, see what you can find" Shran stated firmly.
