Mission:
Wounds From the Mirror
Location: USS Washington - Sickbay
Sickbay was dealing with a handful of easy routine matters at the moment. Sam had been called to the bridge, leaving Shon in charge, not that she had a lot to do at the moment as the junior medical staff was handling things. Dr. Perrim and Dr. Del Rio had left at the end of their duty shift, leaving Tarja as the only other doctor currently on duty. She was working with Amethyst on Lt Antoinette who had come in complaining about an injury she sustained on the holodeck.
Tarja scanned LeFaye with her tricorder and noted the injury. "I see the issue. You have a small strain of the trapezes with strains of the ligaments around the shoulder and tears in the deltoid and biceps. What exactly were you doing?" she questioned.
LeFaye looked embarrassed. "It was a sparring program I recently got. Considering the events we have dealt with lately; I wanted to be prepared for combat."
"We have combat training programs already on the holodeck" Tarja noted.
"This is a Klingon training program" LeFaye noted sheepishly.
Shon, who had been standing near them walked over. She had not yet met LeFaye. "I do not think you will be fighting many Klingons, there is a place for their kind of combat and given the current situation as you have just noted I advise you continue without the Klingons currently." she smiled at Tarja, "I am sure you would agree with me?" said the half Vulcan physician.
Tarja nodded. "I don't think combat is something you are going to be doing for a while, nor anything else that is quite so vigorous" she noted. "Luckily, we can treat you, but you'll still be sore and need to take it easy for a few days."
LeFaye nodded. "I understand."
Shon walked over to where Amethyst was working on Lt Antoinette. "don't you agree we are receiving too many holodeck injuries?" I need to tell Sam; we need to do something about this?"
Amethyst smiled and nodded. “If people are silly enough to deactivate the holodeck safeties, then that’s what will happen. The safeties are there for the exact reason of avoiding injury.”
Suddenly the lights dimmed significantly, an obvious sign on main power loss. Tarja looked around, "I didn't feel the ship jerk as if we were under attack. I wonder what is causing this power loss?"
“Who knows” Amethyst shrugged her shoulders. “Whatever it is I’m sure those on the bridge will have it all sorted out in no time.”
The doors to sickbay and a woman dressed in an all-black leather jumpsuit complete with black boots and black cape walked in. She looked like Cmdr Celes, perhaps coming from running a holodeck program herself.
Tarja tried to be cordial, "Hello commander. Take a seat and we'll be right with you."
The woman drew what looked like some sort of disruptor from her hip holster and fired the weapon several times, hitting LeFaye, Amethyst, and Tarja. Amethyst and Tarja fell to the ground from the wounds while LeFaye fell backwards onto the biobed. The woman walked over, almost ignoring the three she had just shot and looked at Shon, "You are a strange one. I've never seen a Vulcan half-breed like you before. Vulcans don't tend to mate outside their species except for the occasional Terran. Your rank would indicate you are a high-ranking officer, and the blue on your uniform indicates you are likely a doctor. I'll play a little game with you. You can save one of these three, which is to say I will let you try to practice your craft on one of them, but only one. The only catch is, they can't be in the same color uniform as you. I suppose that limits your options to just the one on the biobed, but saving any life is what is important, right? So, go on, try to save her if you can. She is the least injured anyway. You might actually have a chance."
"Computer, end program." Shon called in the hope that there had been some sort of malfunction. when nothing happened, she tried another tack "Deanna, what is wrong, please let me help you?" She looked in horror at the three casualties around her and she grabbed her med scanner and began to assess LeFaye as she was nearest and already on the biobed. As she worked, she touched her communicator "Security to sickbay emergency!"
A shot rang out. It would take Shon a moment to realize that Deanna had just shot Tarja again. The disruptor blast had hit the Andorian doctor, but where her body once lie, now there was only a scorch mark from her vaporized body. Deanna looked at Shon, "She might've had a chance, but you thought that calling for help was a good idea. I promise you; I'll leave this sickbay filled with corpses if you do anything remotely stupid like that again. No security is coming to save you. We control this ship."
She took a few steps and pulled a device out and spoke into it, obviously communicating with someone. It was obvious that this was not the Deanna that Shon knew. LeFaye was in a bad way, but she managed to speak softly to Shon, "Mirror Universe. Think we've been boarded."
Amethyst was on the floor trying to remain conscious as events unfolded. She had tried to move to help Tarja, but the final shot had wiped out that chance. Now all she could do was try to help herself, grabbing a hypo of pain relief from a tray that had dropped onto the floor close to her. She knew her time was running out as she pressed the hypo to her neck.
Suddenly in Amethyst mind came a searing pain as she could feel someone not just telepathically scanning her but shredding her mind as her synapses burst. Suddenly she could hear a voice, though the pain she felt made it difficult to know if the voice was in her mind or actually ringing in her ears. "Silly Terran, thinking you were forgotten."
Shon was in shock to see Tarja vaporized and, for a moment her mind refused to work. However, as she turned to LeFaye the words "Mirror Universe" and "boarded" filled her with horror. She looked at her friend lying on the floor. "Let me put Amethyst on a biobed, please," Shon asked as she began to multitask saving LeFaye. "Just relax, you're going to be fine." Shon said as she looked at the wound giving her a shot of analgesia.
As Shon worked her thoughts turned cold knowing her actions caused a very unnecessary death and she thought about Seth and her family hoping they were safe. Luckily the disruptor shot had missed her major organs and the Letrajasol therapy was already showing tissue formation. Shon began to feel anger although she tried to suppress it, her fists balled, and she knew if she could get her hands on a weapon, she would kill Deanna.
"Let me look at Amethyst?"
The Mirror Deanna looked at Shon, "Such wicked thoughts in your mind. You wish to kill me, to avenge your fallen comrade. Such a vile thought for a doctor, to wish to see the death of anyone. You wish to save this one that is dying on the ground? But you haven't even finished trying to save the other one. I will show some mercy. You save the one you are working on now, and if this other one can get herself to the biobed, I will let you work on her. But you do not touch her until she reaches the biobed or her fate will be the same as that Andorian."
"Wicked thoughts!" Shon exclaimed as she worked. "You are very mistaken if you think physicians are exempt from wicked thoughts. I have done my share of killing although I find no joy in most of it." Shon retrieved a surgical kit from the head of a surgical biobed, then the glint of a phaser underneath the kit. She moved it out of sight and returned to LeFaye. Repairing the bisected major organs, she corrected the fluid loss showing on the monitor and introduced a clotting agent. She breathed a sigh of relief. Taking a deep breath, she invoked the Vulcan T'ahchlas, her breathing slowed, and she closed her mind to the mirror Deanna's probing. "LeFaye will live, now let me help Amethyst?"
Amethyst had heard what had been said, as much as she tried to move her instincts as a nurse told her that she’d be lucky to survive if she lost much more blood. Moving was going to exert the blood loss she had, but she had to try. She dragged herself closer, leaving a trail of blood behind her falling short of touching the closest biobed as she finally lost consciousness.
She watched as Amethyst tried desperately to crawl to the biobed, only to collapse into a blood loss induced coma. Looking back at Shon she pointed her disruptor. "You have a disciplined mind, but I'm afraid your mental tricks are not enough to keep me out of your head. I fear you may have saved the one patient, but this other one is quite near death." She pointed her disruptor at Shon, "I'm afraid she won't survive, and as you are thinking about that phaser hidden under your supplies, I can't leave you standing before I leave. I won't kill you though. You aren't who I was looking for, and you are going to be needed here soon, I can promise you." She fired her disruptor, stunning Shon into unconsciousness.
She looked back at Amethyst lying unconscious bleeding out. "No need to have you suffer further" she spoke softly before firing her disruptor again, hitting Amethyst in the back and the blast piercing her heart and killing her. She strolled out of sickbay, leaving Shon to recover herself and deal with the carnage.
