An old face in a new place

Posted on Wed Oct 6th, 2021 @ 12:18pm by Lieutenant Commander Callie Raven-Grayson & Commander Jonathan Grayson

Mission: Breen in Paradise
Location: XO’s office
Timeline: 1 hour after arrival

Callie was busy checking in with everyone she had to check in with, making her way to the XO’s office she paused to straighten her uniform before pressing the chime. Hearing a voice call her to enter she approached the desk before stopping in her tracks. “Jonathon??

Jonathan froze at the sound of the voice he thought he would never hear again. His head rose from the PaDDs he had been reviewing and he looked up and into the blue eyes and the mousey blonde hair. "Callie?" He questioned not fully believing she was standing before him.

Callie nodded and smiled as she slowly approached the desk, “It’s me, or should I say Lieutenant Callie Raven-Grayson reporting for duty Sir! I’m your new Chief Counsellor.”

Jon stared at her. Memories of happier times flooded his brain, their meeting at the Academy and falling in love, getting married. Callie getting pregnant. Then the huge argument and Callie storming out of his life until now.

He composed himself and quickly said. "Welcome aboard Lieutenant! I hope you enjoy your stay here. If you need anything don't hesitate to ask." All while thinking *I need a drink*

“Thank you” Callie offered a smile but she knew Jonathon well enough to know when something was wrong. “Jonathon I owe you an apology, I know you weren’t blaming me for the loss of our baby.” She sighed and took a seat. “It took a while for me to realise I was being over sensitive, I’m sorry!”

Jon nodded. "It's okay Callie. It was a stressful, emotional time for both of us." Jon answered, not wishing to get into another argument. He smiled at her, "You're looking well." He said honestly. Callie had always been a looker, from their first meeting at the Academy up to and including now.

“Thank you, it took me a while to get my head straight but I got there in the end.” She found herself staring into his eyes, he always had drawn her in that way. “Erm I...understand that your previous Chief Counsellor is in stasis?”

"Yes, that's right." He said quietly. "She suffered traumatic injuries that necessitated she be placed in stasis and sent to Earth for further treatment. It will be a long recovery if she recovers."

Callie nodded. “I’m sorry to hear that” she gave John a curious look her Betazoid senses were picking up on his feelings. “You were...in love with her?”

Jon nodded. "Yes, I was Callie but I never forgot you." He said honestly wondering how she knew then remembering her Betazoid abilities.

“That’s none of my business John, it’s not like we’re married anymore my leaving you destroyed that.” Callie paused. “If she made you happy then that’s what matters. It must be difficult for you, having lost her this way. Not knowing when, or if, she’ll recover.”

"It is but I have good friends here and that helps a great deal." He admitted. He made no comment about her leaving years before. They both knew what she had done. It was water under the bridge.

Callie gave John a considered look. “Would you...like to have dinner with me tonight? No strings attached. I just think it’s way past time that we cleared the air.” She offered a hopeful smile.

"Callie, I would love to have dinner with you." Jon replied honestly with a smile of his own. Thank you for asking. Do you want to eat in the ships lounge or is there somewhere else you'd like to have dinner?"

“How’s about my quarters?” Callie smiled. “I think talking in private would be better than in public. In the meantime is there anything I can do? You’re definitely not entirely your usual self.”

"Your quarters are fine Callie." Jon agreed. "Would you like me to bring anything? And your right I'm not myself. Just talking is enough for now."

Callie nodded. “Understood. Is 1900 hours okay?

"1900 hours is fine Callie. Would you like me bring a bottle of wine?" Jon asked.

Callie nodded and smiled. “Sure, that would be lovely. Back to right now, I need to catch up on what’s currently happening. Have I missed anything important?”

"Had a minor skirmish with three Breen ships. Now we're in pursuit of them to a planet where we think they have a secret base as well as manufacturing a virus." Jon replied.

“A virus?” Callie looked concerned. “Do we know what kind of virus, and what they’re planning to do with it?”

"Medical is working on it right now. It seems to be specie specific Callie. Nothing this ship can't handle." Jon assured her.

Callie nodded. “Of that I’m sure, Starfleet wouldn’t be sending this ship if there was any doubt of that. With regards the Counselling side of things, I have yet to settle into my office but I’ll be caught up in no time.”

"I know you will be. We're fortunate to have you Callie. I'm sure you will fit right in. Dr. Howard is the CMO and there is no one better. Watch out for Dr. Perrin though. He's an ass." Jon informed her.

“Really?” Callie smiled. “I may just have to meet him and see why he’s such an ass!” She grinned playfully. “Well I guess I’d best be getting on with my duties. I’ll see you tonight.”

Jon shook his head. "Don't say I didn't warn you if you do decide to meet him." Jon warned playfully. "I'll see you tonight Callie." He promised.

Callie nodded and rose from her seat. “Until then” she nodded and smiled before heading out of the door.

Jon watched her leave and couldn't help but wonder what was going to happen next now that Callie was back in his life.
