Fallout

Posted on Wed Jan 5th, 2022 @ 10:30am by Captain Shran dh'Klar & Lieutenant Ayana Hillis & Commander Jonathan Grayson

Mission: Sinister Intentions
Location: USS Washington

Shran sat in his quarters enjoying his evening meal. It was the simplest of respites, but it was all he could afford at this time. The medical staff had its hands full with patients, T'Vall had been killed, Jon was still recovering from the incident with T'Vall, JAG was demanding all sorts of reports, Callie had been forced into extensive counseling, LeFaye and Deanna were both requesting time for the ship to have repairs and other details tended to, and as it that weren't enough, Shran felt a great need to return home. In general, the captain's plate was full, his goblet overflowing, and very few could do anything to ease the burden. Such as it was to be the captain of a starship.

As he neared the end of his meal the chime at the door rang. Shran ignored it the first time, choosing to finish the last bite of his meal. The chime rang a second time, this time as Shran was getting up from the table. He took the dirty dishes over to the replicator and set them down, taking one final large gulp from his beverage before activating the replicator and having things recycled. "Come" he said as he watched the dishes disappear.

Ayana entered, a stern look on her face which led Shran to believe she was here on official business. "Good evening sir. Sorry to disturb you" she said as professionally as she could.

"Good evening Ayana. What brings you to my quarters this evening?"

"She made her way towards him and handed him a PaDD, "I have completed my report regarding the incident in the brig. I have independently confirmed that T'Vall did indeed ultimately die by poison, a suicide cap to be more specific. He had a great many injuries though that happened prior to his death. He was in an altercation with Commander Grayson in which he ultimately lost, though both men did significant damage to one another. This incident happened after T'Vall was released from his cell, which happened after Cmdr Grayson ordered the security guards out of the brig."

Shran looked at the PaDD and then sat it down on the table. He had no desire to look at the official report; Ayana's description was more than enough for now. "Very good Ayana. Have you dealt with the security officers yet?"

"Yes sir" she replied crisply. "The two men in question, Batanides and Sloan have been removed from duty and I am ready to place reprimands in their records. Lieutenant Robinson has been placed in charge of the detention area."

"I want it made clear to them that while they followed orders, the moment they heard anything they should have entered the area and ended the altercation. They are not to be placed in the care of prisoners for the duration of their cycle here and I want them transferred off as soon as possible." Shran hated having to be so harsh, but what had happened couldn't happen again.

"Understood sir" she replied simply.

"Anything else?" questioned Shran.

"Permission to speak freely" she snapped off professionally.

"Of course."

"Deanna expressed that you needed some relaxation."

Shran held up his hand. "I appreciate the sentiment, but we both have duties to tend to."

"Understood sir."

Shran picked up the PaDD and walked out of his quarters with Ayana, each of them headed to different locations. Shran made his way down to Jon's quarters. He pressed the chime and waited for an answer.

Jon heard the chime and struggled to get to his feet using the crutches he had. Reaching the door he activated the door to open and was surprised to see Shran standing there. "Captain!" He said in surprise, "Won't you please come it?" As he hobbled out of the way.

Shran entered and looked around, seeing Jon was alone. "It would appear you are put back together, though I am surprised to find you here alone. Take a seat. We need to talk."

"Of course sir." Jon hobbled to the couch and sat down it was easier to get up from the recliner. "Callie is at a counseling session." He explained. "And for being put back together. I don't know. Everything hurts and is stiff but we'll see."

Shran was filled with emotion. He was angry, disappointed, and yet he was sympathetic and understanding. He had to just put it out there for Jon. "I want you to know upfront, what happened is going to cause some significant fallout. You went to see the prisoner, ordered out the security detail, released him, and ultimately you ended up in sickbay on death's door and he ended up dead. What in the hell were you thinking?"

Jon met Shran's look, despite his injuries there was iron in his voice. "I was thinking of saving Callie, the women I love with every fiber of my being. T'vall was never going to tell us anything and as much as i respect Sam and Dex it may have taken them years to find out what he did to Callie, if ever. I took a chance, faced him one on one and when he realized he had lost he told me. What were you thinking ...sir?"

Shran shook his head, a look of disappointment on his face. "I understand that. I am married myself, so I sympathize. That said, you are a StarFleet officer, as was T'Vall, even if he was a piece of trash. What you did may have been the right thing to do as a husband, but it was the wrong thing to do as a StarFleet officer. Now we have JAG demanding an intensive investigation, and it it going to take everything I have to keep you from a court martial. Do you at least understand that what you did was wrong as an officer?"

Jon shook his head, "Sir, I respect and like you more than you know but you are wrong T'vall stopped being a Starfleet officer once he got involved with the slavers, hell when he first raped Callie." Jon sighed, "I am sorry for the problem I've caused you, I never wanted that. I only wanted to save Callie."

"StarFleet and JAG don't view it the way you do Jon. I may have sympathy for the situation you were in, and I may even agree to some degree, but that doesn't change what happened. The saving grace for you is that ultimately T'Vall took his own life based on Ayana's investigation as well as the autopsy performed by Dex. Not that you were going anywhere for the time being, but I am restricting you to quarters pending the outcome of the JAG investigation. You may leave your quarters to see Callie in sickbay, but all other travel is restricted." Shran turned to walk out and stopped just before exiting the door, "Take the time to get well Jon. I'll do what I can regarding JAG." With that the Andorian left.

"I understand sir and I feel sorry for them. But they weren't and aren't out here. They sit behind desks, removed from reality." Jon said simply. "I understand my restrictions. and I won't abuse them. I'll either be in Sickbay or here. I give you my word. if it means anything to you anymore."

Shran left and made his way down the corridor, the only thing on his mind the dichotomy of duty and family, and his love of both. Celes and Ayana were right, he seriously needed to return home before he completely lost all perspective regarding duty.
