Assault on Sickbay

Posted on Thu Sep 1st, 2022 @ 8:51am by Lieutenant JG Eislyn Jortho & Ensign T'Plana-hath & Ensign James Phoenix & Lieutenant JG Tarja zh'Rhun

Mission: Time Bandits
Location: USS Washington

Dr. zh'Rhun looked over T'Plana's scans and updated her file for her report to Dr. Howard come the morning. She was still trying to settle in, but the medical aspects were easy enough.

Eislyn had come to keep an eye on the Vulcan treatment. She had to admit that this was something she had never seen before, not in any of her lifetimes, but from a psychological perspective, it seemed like an interesting technique, though she was unsure how it might be applied outside of Vulcans.

T'Plana-hath sat in a Vulcan meditative position preparing herself for the upcoming trials with High Priestess and Healer Lodzhal, who also happened to be her great-grandaunt. She waited patiently as Lieutenant j.g. Tarja zh'Rhun ran her scans, fighting the 'Inner Chorus' Ket-cheleb from striking the young Andorian female. "How soon before I may see..." T'Plana-hath stopped in her question "Seal the sickbay doors now." She snapped "Are there any phasers in here? We have been boarded."

Tarja looked at Eislyn and then back at T'Plana. "Everything is fine ensign. We aren't be boarded. The bridge informed me that they may have some injured personnel from a freighter we are assisting. Nothing to be concerned with."

"Are the voices in your mind telling you that you are in danger?" Eislyn questioned.

"Ket-cheleb senses Rihansu on the ship" T'Plana-hath replied.

Tarja looked over at Phoenix, "Ensign, perhaps you might want to keep a close eye on Ensign T'Plana in case she decides to do anything rash. These voices she is supposedly hearing could make her dangerous."

Phoenix nodded at Tarja quietly and then he took a look a T'Plana to see how she was doing. He then took a look at the sickbay doors while he still had the Vulcan in his view. He moved his dominant hand to his holster and rested it there. While T'Plana was hearing voices, she was still a Vulcan, and they were able to sense things easier than Humans. However this made Phoenix uneasy. What if they had been boarded?

He tried to get rid of that feeling. It would distract him from his job. But for his own sake and T'Plana's, he spoke up. "I'm sure everything is probably fine, but does anyone sense anything? Or should we at least contact the bridge to be safe?" He wasn't trying to cause panic, but it was part of his job to help protect the crew.

It was at this point that the doors to sickbay opened and several Romulans entered, disruptors drawn. Disruptor fire rang out across sickbay, both duty nurses hit in this initial volley. Tarja and Eislyn both moved to T'Plana, trying to protect the patient. The Romulans fired again, this time grazing Phoenix in the arm.

The Romulans moved forward and fanned out, directing disruptor's at Phoenix and at the others. "We want the Vulcan. Release her to us and we will spare the rest of you."

Tarja looked at Eislyn and then at T'Plana. It wasn't in her character to give in to demands, and sacrificing a patient was equally something she wouldn't do. "My patient is not going anywhere."

"The choice is yours doctor. The Vulcan, or your life."

T'Plana-hath sprang from her meditative pose straight at the Romulan that was speaking, flicking her left hand straight into his throat. While the left hand crushed the Romulan's throat, she grabbed the dead Romulan with her right hand swinging his dead body in front of her as another Romulan fired his disruptor at her, the dead Romulan's body absorbing the blast. "Well doctor do you believe me now?" asked T'Plana-hath as she threw the Romulan at the one who had fired at her. As she did this, she dived into a roll towards the other Romulan and swung her left leg out, sweeping the Romulan's legs and causing him to fall.

Tarja didn't get an opportunity to answer as the other Romulans all began to fire. While not all of them hit their mark, enough of them did, hitting T'Plana, Phoenix, and Jortho. Tarja managed to avoid being struck, but now had multiple patients.

"Enough of this" Tarja said. Allow me to treat these people. I'm a doctor, not a combatant!

"Very well doctor, but we will watch you. If this Vulcan dies, so do you. Make her ready for transport" said one of the Romulans.

Tarja pulled out her tricorder and scanned T'Plana. The disruptor hit her in the upper chest, but the injury wasn't lethal. Thankfully she wasn't human. She leaned in and whispered to T'Plana, "No more fighting ensign. We need to cooperate for the time being."

T'Plana-hath opened her eyes, one was a fiery Emerald Green flame, the other was Milky White before returning to her Sea Green color, "The 'Inner Chorus' of Kal-ap-ton, his demon side Tyr-al-tep, and Ket-cheleb do not agree doctor, as they are 'Eifa vi march ne'rak wuh raptor's rala', Rihansu, and not worthy of life. I have calmed the 'Inner Chorus' for now, by reminding them there are others not involved in this that are innocent. I will endeavour to keep the 'Inner Chorus' in check." replied T'Plana-hath. She showed no sign of pain from the disruptor hit, in fact she appeared wholly capable of getting back up and continuing her fight.

The Andorian placed the strangeness of T'Plana's words aside and pulled out a hypo and sedated her. It would be easier to treat her under such conditions. She gazed over at Phoenix and Jortho, both who were on the ground bleeding. Jortho was conscious and placing pressure on her wound which in her left shoulder, Phoenix however appeared to be in worse shape. She rushed over and scanned him. The disruptor blast had hit him on the right side and caused significant damage to his liver. She looked at the Romulans, "I require one of you to take this man and place him in the surgical bay. He must be operated on immediately."

The Romulans looked at one another, speaking without and speaking and then turned back to look at Tarja. "You may operate on him, but we will offer no assistance. The patient we wish for you to deal with is the Vulcan."

Tarja felt the righteous anger filling her, but she was in no position to argue. She only had two options, and the one that made the most sense required her to do something she was loathed to do. "Very well. You leave me no other choice. Computer, activate the EMH."

The EMH sprung to life, "Please state the nature of the medical emergency."

Tarja stood, "Romulans have boarded the ship and we have wounded. I require you to treat Ensign Phoenix for a disruptor blast to his abdomen which has caused him significant liver damage while I treat the others. We are the only medical personnel available, and you will be required to transport your patient manually."

The EMH looked around at the chaos that was sickbay, seeing the multiple victims, blood stained floors, and of course the Romulans standing with disruptors in hand. "Very well" he said and picked up Phoenix and transported him to the surgical bay.

"An excellent move doctor" Jortho said as she continued to dress her wound. "You may have saved several people by doing that."

"Patients are all I am concerned with at the moment counselor" Tarja replied. She looked at T'Plana, "I'd like to get you back to your biobed if you think you can manage it."

T'Plana-hath struggled through the haze of the sedative she was given and the constant battle with the 'Inner Chorus' she was having. "Yes, doctor I am capable, however no more sedatives unless you wish me to lose control and allow Ket-cheleb loose. Then I can guarantee you that the floors of the sickbay will be covered in green blood of the Rihansu, kanu t' eifa vi march ne'rak wuh raptor's rala." replied in a whisper.

Tarja gave a serious look to T'Plana and then looked to Eislyn. She wasn't sure what to make of this "chorus" T'Plana kept speaking of, but it was clear that the presence of the Romulans was making them homicidal. She'd need to treat Eislyn so that she'd have help dealing with whatever else T'Plana might say, or worse, try to do.

In the surgical bay even though everything was hazy and he was nearly unresponsive and mostly unconscious, his thoughts and memories were in full gear. James had been through hell. Being frozen for about thirty-five decades, being stranded in a universe trying to murder him where he watched the one person he loved die. All of it was hell. But to go out like this. Without even getting a true chance to save his friends and crew. A meaningless death. No, he wouldn't let that happen to the crew or himself if he could help it.

The EMH worked diligently on Phoenix, the surgery a simple task based on its programming. Phoenix would be fine, though he wouldn't be aware of it for some time. The question now was what would happen with these Romulans aboard?
