In need of answers

Posted on Wed Mar 22nd, 2023 @ 8:47am by Lieutenant Commander Deanna Celes & Lieutenant Commander Callie Raven-Grayson

Mission: Living History
Location: Quarters

The end of shift couldn’t have come fast enough for Callie, the whole Maddison affair had left her with so many questions. Stopping off on her way home she paused outside Deanna’s door, pressing the chime she waited for an answer.

Deanna was in her bedroom as she was letting her bathtub fill. She wanted to soak in the hot water and let everything melt away. Being on the planet had been stressful, but everything that happened in sickbay, particularly when she was in Maddison's mind had been something dark and disturbing. It was something she wanted to forget. Suddenly she heard the door chime and she let out a sigh. Whoever this was, she knew this was only going to extend the vile day. She turned off the water and then went to the door and after letting out a calming breath she opened it and saw Callie. "I thought you'd come by, though I had hoped you might let this go. Please come in."

Callie walked inside offering an apologetic smile. “I’m sorry if I caught you at a bad time, I won’t keep you long I promise.”

As the door closed Deanna looked at Callie, "No problem. I had hoped to forget about what had happened, but I understand you have questions."

Callie nodded. “I’m afraid I do. Maybe I’m crazy for wanting to know, but I need to know. What did you see, what did he say? Don’t spare me any details Deanna, I need to know it all.”

Deanna offered Callie a seat and then sat down herself. She closed her eyes and remained silent for several moments. She looked up finally at Callie, "Very well. You need to brace yourself, this isn't going to be pleasant at all."

Callie nodded as she took a seat. “I’m ready.”

"First, as I already confirmed in front of everyone, he confirmed that he is indeed a descendant of ours. You and I and Jon were all his great great grandparents. He was quite clear about that. He wanted to protect your child, he didn't care about protecting you. Quite the opposite really. Everyone on the ship was expendable to him except for myself and your child." Deanna stopped and looked at Callie to judge how she was handling things so far.

Callie nodded. The news was hard to take, she had been hoping Maddison truly wanted her to know something important. “So I more or less made a fool of myself for nothing.” She shook her head more disappointed in herself than anything else.

"He was a very evil person Callie. Certainly not the sort of person you can look at with pride knowing he is part of your family. But you have to remember, he was from the future. He wasn't some relation from the past that you learned about doing a family genealogy, he is a descendant that won't be born for hundreds of years, long after we are no longer here." Deanna hoped her words offered some solace.

Callie nodded. “Thank you Deanna, but as you said, it doesn’t come easy knowing that fact.”

"He was a StarFleet Officer, and was a Temporal Officer. He was also quite deranged, though the cause I couldn't say with certainty, though it did have something to do with something regarding his job, and he was dealing with something known as temporal psychosis, whatever that is." Deanna was trying to put a positive spin on things, all while trying to avoid going into too much detail.

“Temporal Psychosis?” Callie nodded. “Now you’re in my ball park, you said he was a temporal agent? I guess leaping from time to time must have side effects. If it’s like other types of Psychosis, it explains his behavior perfectly.”

"Perhaps" Deanna said softly. "I don't think it is something you want any telepath to have. I'm sure you are aware of how many of the most gifted telepaths in Betazoid society have personality quirks, bordering on antisocial disorders and the like. I would say he was certainly one of these sorts, long before this temporal psychosis ever became an issue."

Callie nodded. “He could have been born with his abilities already functioning, children like that never have the chance to lead a normal life.” She sighed then smiled. “Thank you Deanna, I appreciate you being honest with me.”

"He was certainly special, even for a Betazoid. What is odd is that he was also partially human, so you wouldn't expect his telepathic abilities to be nearly as strong as they were. Perhaps in the future some sort of advancements happen regarding telepathic abilities" Deanna mused.

Callie nodded. “I guess that’s a possibility, who knows what advancements take place in the future.”

"I don't know how much of this you will want to tell Jon, or if you would prefer I speak with him about it" Deanna offered, unsure what her response might be. "I know I have to speak with Temporal Investigations tomorrow and they will want to know about this, but I think it is important Jon be made aware of at least some things."

“I need to talk to Jon” Callie sighed. “I’ll tell him a few details but it’s probably best you give him the full rundown, in case I leave anything out.”

Deanna nodded understanding what Callie was saying. "I'll speak with him in the morning before my meeting with Temporal Investigations."

“Thank you Deanna.” Callie offered a smile as she stood ready to leave. “If anything else turns up about Maddison I’d appreciate it if you let me know.”

"Have a good night" Deanna offered, walking Callie to the door. After Callie left she made her way to her bath, very happy to take a dip and soak as she let the strain of everything wash away.
