Settling in

Posted on Thu Jul 23rd, 2020 @ 6:08pm by Lieutenant Lisa Olsson

Mission: Tal Shiar
Location: Lisa’s Quarters
Timeline: Current

Lieutenant Lisa Olsson had not long been on board the Washington. In fact, she hadn’t even started her first shift yet. Her quarters were still a mess of a mixtures of clothes, furniture and other belongings. Her replicator was not functioning properly either. When she asked for chicken soup she would get 2 eggs, a carrot and an underdone chocolate cake. If she asked for a simple cup of black coffee, she would get a strawberry and cola milkshake.

She was a whizz at these kinds of little engineering fixes, but she knew if she tampered with the replicator it would invalid its warranty. Not something she wanted to be chewed out for just yet.

“The time is 1425 hours.” The computer’s ever-monotonous voice suddenly announced.

Lisa gulped hard. Her palms were moist. She was due on the bridge in five minutes. Why was she so anxious about starting her first shift? She wasn’t a cadet or a brand new officer by any means. She’d served aboard the Thunderclap, Deep Space Nine, and the Roughneck before she accepted a transfer to the Washington. But perhaps that was why she was nervous; because it was the Washington. A hell of a ship, a hell of a crew, and a hell of a reputation to go with it all.

She sipped the last of her strawberry and cola milkshake, trying her best not to gag as she swallowed, and got to her feet. She straightened her tunic and looked in the mirror. The two shiny golden pips on her collar sparkled. Seeing those two pips reminded her how far she had come, and that gave her confidence; if only for now.

But before she could step out of her quarters and into the corridors of the ship, the Captain’s voice came over the comm-system; “Senior officers to the conference room.”

Lisa paused for a moment and needed to remind herself she was Chief Tactical/Security Officer aboard this ship now. She looked back towards her own reflection in the mirror and smiled nervously. “Well Lisa,” she spoke softly, “you’re the one who wanted to be a Starfleet officer... so let’s go be one!”

She departed the confines of her quarters and started to make her way towards the conference room.
