Teams

Mission:
Tal Shiar
Location: USS Washington
Shran sat at his desk in his ready room as the officers filed in. Some obviously had a better idea than others what this was about. He hated keeping anyone in the dark, but orders were orders. Once they all filed in and the door closed he stood to address them. "Thank you all for coming so quickly. After the meeting in the conference room I spoke with Jon and Stonebridge giving them some additional details regarding our mission. I will now reiterate something for you all, this mission is classified. You will not discuss details with anyone not in this room, and even then only sparingly. For all intents and purposes, consider yourselves drafted by StarFleet Intelligence for the duration of this mission." Shran paused and looked over the crowd, many of the faces long known and good friends, others new and needing to be tested. "At this time, we will be focusing on Phase 1 of the mission, infiltration and intel gathering. Jon and Stonebridge will be leading two teams into the Tal Shiar facility, and they have details they will share with their team at their discretion. The goal is to get in, retrieve the intel and get out with as little fuss as possible. Jon, I'm assigning Samantha and Lt Olsson to your team. Samantha can deal with the medical aspects and I trust Lt Olsson can handle the tactical aspects. Stonebridge, I'm assigning Lt Celes and Lt Jones to your team as your team requires more engineering and technical support. I'm opening this to questions now."
Sam took in this new information, her brain piecing together more parts of this complex and dark puzzle as time went on.
"Captain, you mentioned the medical side - are we expecting significant biological weapons? I heard rumours they were trying to design them." Howard queried, her tone devoid of emotion.
Jon listened silently as the Captain briefed the members of the two teams that would be used to breach the secret Romulan base. He gave a quick glance at Sam followed by a wink. His gaze shifted to the newly arrived Lt. Olsson. She looked competent. he hoped for all their sakes looks weren't deceiving.
Lisa looked around the room at the officers that were present. Other than the Captain, their faces were unfamiliar to her. She had barely arrived on the ship when this mission had fallen at their feet. A lot was expected from her as Chief Security & Tactical officer, especially now. She took a deep breath in through her nose and held it for a few moments, releasing it slowly between her lips. It was time to prove that she deserved this posting. She noticed in the corner of her eye that the XO was looking at her; a curious look in his eye. Lisa turned her head towards the man and smiled, trying to cover her nervousness. The XO smiled back.
Michael knew of temporal directives that just could not be spoken about in a group of this size. The words Mutagenic weapons and Temporal should not be muttered in any room as far as he was concerned so he thought better of bringing it up now. Put it sure would be good if the Relativity was somewhere in this mission. Because if he was a Romulan on this temporal team. He would be thinking. Probably gonna die anyway. But what a better way to go than slipping out to another time and attacking an enemy that didn’t even know it was coming. Go Lon True indeed! Michael looked up and could tell that his little fantasy trip had caught the attention of some of his colleges. “Sorry I was just thinking this all through. Don’t mind me sir!” Said Stonebridge
Shran looked at Samantha, a stern look upon his face, as if she had said something should ought not and now father had to scold her. "Such thoughts doctor. This is the Tal Shiar we are discussing, so anything is possible, especially at a base they are hiding even from their own." Shran hoped this would suffice. He didn't want to get into too many specifics unless he had to.
" Sorry Sir" Sam blushed a little at the mild admonishment, knowing she'd probably overstepped the bounds in her thirst for more information. Whilst the situation was obviously very volatile, going in without every skeric of information had its own inherent risks. Still - this wasn't her horse to ride, The Captain would divulge what information he deemed necessary - that was his call. Biting her tongue she waited to see if anyone else asked any questions.
Jon kept his attention on the captain as he mildly rebuffed Sam's question on the possibility of dealing with biological weapons. His question was much more important to their cause. "What about the security of the base? Do we have any information on it? I'd like us not to be tripping over each other and alarms like three blind mice."
Shran nodded as he listened to Jon's question. "Security will be tight. We'll have to beam you down outside the base and you'll have roughly a mile hike through rocky terrain. Then Stonebridge will be responsible for covertly getting you all inside via an access passageway that intelligence has provided. Inside the base, expect top security roaming about. The Tal Shiar being paranoid even more than your typical Romulans you can expect security all over the place. The one advantage you have is that we have apparently an intelligence asset inside the base that will, upon receiving the signal, deactivate main power and internal security grids for 10 minutes. You have that window to make it to your respective destinations and grab the information required. I realize that the window is small, but any longer means having you all get into fire fights, and that is something I'd like to avoid." Shran shifted around a bit. "I know the task seems near impossible, but I'm confident you can complete this mission safely and with a minimal loss of life, particularly on our side."
Grayson spoke up, still trying to understand what was going on, "No questions for now, Captain. I do admit, I am still trying to get up to speed on the mission having only just arrived. If the team I am on won't mind a few questions later that is."
Stonebridge swivels in his seat. “Let there be no mistake. A mission of this nature could not be more dangerous. We all took an oath as Star Fleet officers and this mission typifies the very essence of that oath. If you’re not ready to lay your life on the line for this one. The counsellor should be your next port of call. Because it’s very likely some of us will not be returning from this mission. Me myself, that’s a part of my everyday life. If the Captain wishes. I can find an intel counter part to put in ever slot on these teams. But as I said earlier. I will defer to our Captains wishes as of course he know each of you much better than I do. “ said Stonebridge even though he has seen everybody’s Star Fleet record as protocol for a savvy Intel officer.
"Team leaders, feel free to speak with your team members in private and provide them whatever additional information you feel is relevant. We still have a little more than a day before we arrive. That is all for now. Dismissed." Shran sat quietly, thoughts regarding the mission playing through his mind. He still had one more person he wanted to speak with, to brief, and he wasn't totally sure what he would say to her all things considered.
