Love in a Time of War

Mission: The Orion Syndicate
Location: Sickbay

Seth stood beside Shon's bed. She was out of danger but still weak. His hand had gone to hers in a show of love and support. His breathing had returned to normal after stopping while Shon battled for her life. He raised her hand and gently kissed it. "I love you Shon. Every second of every minute of every day, my love for you grows. I want us to grow old together, to laugh and cry. So that means you have to stick around my love."

Sam’s sedative had worked after their trip back from the bridge although she did not want to be sedated Sam had insisted she rest. Somehow in her sleep she could feel his hand warm and strong holding hers. A tear slipped from the corner of her eye as she felt some of his strength pass into her. As she slept she dreamt of how their life would be together she smiled and called his name in her sleep. Puss placed a paw on Seth’s knee and meowed softly.

Seth squeezed Shon's hand as she called out his name. "Rest love. I'm here." He whispered to her. With his other he absently scratched Puss behind his ears. "It's alright Puss." He whispered to the Shelat. "Shon is going to be alright and we'll all be together. How does that strike you fella?"

As she dreamt her dream of Seth faded as once again she saw the bulk of the ship with the sun glistening off her hull overhead. She screamed waving her arms in the vain attempt that she would be seen warning them away. Once again the beam of obscene white light shot from the mountain hitting the ships hull. The ship exploded into heat that burned her skin as the Washington exploded. She woke screaming and sat up breathing heavily. She gripped Seth’s hand.

Sam was beside the biobed in an instant running a scan. " Shhh, you're ok" She soothed as she injected a calming agent into Dex's bloodstream.

"Easy Love. Easy. I'm here and so is Puss. Everything is alright. relax. Just take a breath and settle down. Now, tell me what is wrong? What's got you so worried and worked up?"

She breathed a little easier to see them. “My visions, they are of the ship being destroyed on this mission. I keep seeing the ship down in the atmosphere of the planet. I KNOW there is a weapon down there. I only hope I have managed to persuade the Captain of the danger. I don’t want you to die Seth, I have only just found you.” She attempted to sit up. “I must go down to the surface. Sam, please help me to get to the away team?”

" No absolutely not. You barely survived the last altercation with your mind, you are not setting foot outside sickbay without my authorisation" Sam said firmly.

He shook his head, "Absolutely not Shon! You have just recovered from a massive strain to your brain." Seth said firmly. "You can tell the Captain of your visions and if need be I'll go down and warn the away team. But.... you are not going down to the surface."

She smiled wanly. “I know where this weapon is, it must be destroyed even if it takes my life to keep everyone safe. You know I love you and would have spent my whole life with you but I knew this was coming and I should not have got you involved in all this I am so sorry.

"If you know, then tell the captain. They can destroy it from orbit but you are not going down to the surface Shon. I love you too and you are not going to sacrifice your life like this." Seth answered firmly.

She Struggled to get up then screamed as a dozen spikes seemed to penetrate her brain. She could no longer speak or see grabbing for anything to hold on to. Her brain could take no more insults in its weakened state, and shut itself down as she slowly sank to the ground once again unconscious her hand still gripping his.

Seth held Shon's hand even as he yelled "Sam! Anyone come quick!" Before turning his attention to Shon. "Shon! You are not leaving me! Fight Shon! Fight! You are stronger than this Don't you dare quit!"

Sam summoned the rest of the medical team and they once again swung into action. She paged the Captain and informed him of Dex's change on condition.

Shon regained consciousness suddenly, I am fine now” she said looking at Seth and jumping off the bed. She looked at Sam. “What do you need me to do?” She asked.

" I need you to lie back down and let me run a full neurological analysis there my friend" Sam said gently. " You've given me a run for my money the last few days and before you go anywhere I need to give you a full medical and neurological workup"

Shran entered and looked over at Dex and Seth with Samantha moving to them. Things looked like they hadn't gotten much better from the last time he was in sickbay. He walked over, "Is this a complication from her overexerting herself after Deanna pulled her out of her mind or is this an effect of the future echo?"

"Possibly, it could just be her body trying to re-find its equilibrium after the trauma of the past few days" Sam replied as she picked up a scanning instrument and began a full body series. "The fact she's lucid is a good indication that she's healing"

Dex looked at the Captain and tried to sit up, “Sir the highest mountain peak on Orion, I am sure that is where the weapon is. Please let me go down to the surface, I can help the away team! I keep getting more flashes, more insight, I know there is more to come.”

" I can't release you down to the surface, not yet" Sam said firmly "If you relapse again...." She left the rest unsaid before turning back to the Captain. "Surely someone else can go, Dex can guide them from here in sickbay where I can make sure she's not going to relapse again"

"I completely agree with you Doctor if my opinion matters." Seth replied from the side of the bed where he was holding Shon's hand. "In fact I suggested I go to the surface so Shon could stay here."

"You are certainly not in any condition to go down to the surface Dex. I am not about to let you risk further harm to yourself, and I sincerely doubt Samantha would allow it. I'm willing to send Lt Travis with an away team once Ayana returns from the Klingon ship."

" Works for me Sir, if she continues to be stable I can release her in 24 hours back on light duties." Sam smiled encouragingly at Dex. " Good luck with the Away Team Seth, Captain, let me know if you need a medic on the team."

Shran nodded. "Very good Samantha."
