Mission:
Writing the Q Cards
Location: USS Washington
Timeline: Before "A Brief Act of Kindness"
ON:
Chris walked through the corridor on deck five towards his, normally Phoenix's quarters. The situation that Q Junior had started had been an interesting one to say the least. Hell, he had nearly died in the holodeck due to Q's antics. As much as he liked it here and as much as he wanted to stay, he had his own life to think about in his own universe. The walk through the corridor was relatively boring and it felt long. He almost wanted something to happen to pass what was supposed to be a short amount of time.
Around the corner, Kate had already gotten out of her quarters after spending nearly twenty minutes looking out the windows in awe. She walked the corridors taking in everything from the carpeted floors, to the computer panels that lined the walls, and the lights that adorned the ceilings. She felt like a tourist even though she knew how to utilize everything around her. As Chris walked around the corner she noticed him looking at her as she took the place in.
"Sorry.." She said with a happy smile. "Just getting used to everything. "You're one of the writers, right?" She pointed and hoped that he was because if she was wrong, the poor character would think she was crazy.
Chris hadn't recognized her from earlier. But based on what she was asking he knew that she had the same issue as the rest of the writers. Q must have brought her here after everyone else. "No worries. I sure am. I'm Chris, the writer of James Phoenix" he extended a hand. "I didn't see you earlier when Q brought us here. Did Q send you after?"
She nodded.
"Yes! I just got here a little while ago. Q invited me in after selling me on the transition." She squinted her eyes at him and smiled from ear to ear. "So, is this the image of Phoenix I'm looking at, or you as yourself? I don't yet know how that works. Am I looking at the writer, or the character?" She looked down at herself and back at him. Her slender petite frame, flat, athletic, dark eyes, and jet black hair that swung side to side as she pointed back at herself. "... Eh, this is just 'me' since I came aboard as myself. I would do anything to escape my boring life so I just jumped right on." She explained.
"That's fair. This is my normal self, so I believe you are looking at the writer" he smiled. "Though some aspects of Phoenix are based after myself."
She smiled at him.
"It's nice to meet the person behind the character. It's also crazy to think that when all this is over, you're one of the many eyes that will have a sort of, omnipotent viewpoint on everything that goes on here -- even behind closed doors. In a way, it's like, you are all going to be 'Q' when this is all over despite the real 'Q' having this immense power over all of us, both in this simulated realm as well as your own. Maybe 'Q' is a writer of both. Wouldn't that be just weird?"
"It certainly would be. Q is very powerful so I honestly wouldn't be surprised" he chuckled and returned the smile.
"I read all the crew dossiers," Kate added. It seems like Phoenix and I could certainly trade music interests. We're from the same era so I look forward to getting to know both of you!"
"So do I" he said before looking around and then looking back at Kate. "It is a shame that I may leave this place. I always wanted to be on a Federation Starship, but I never thought that I'd get the chance. But I've got my own story to write" he trailed off.
"Hey," Kate said consolingly. "It's okay. Just think of it this way, you still get to write with me and I'll be that character on the other side. Q told me he'd fix it if anything happened here anyway -- like, if this place just fell silent one day. Not sure what that means but sounds fairly secure."
She walked in the direction he was walking.
"Speaking of secure, sounds like everything has wrapped up here with the virus and everything. I just wonder what's going to happen next. It's kind of exciting no matter what side of the story you're on, isn't it?" She said with a broad toothy grin!
"Not gonna lie it kind of is" Chris returned the grin. "I do know that whatever is next that it will be good."
"Sounds like we should take a trip to whatever passes as ten-forward here and do a toast to that one." She giggled. She then stopped a moment to think to herself before turning back to Chris. "... I'm sure there's something like that on a ship like this right? Or did they do away with that after TNG?"
"There should be" he thought for a moment. "If I recall correctly there is a few lounges including the mess-hall and Ten-Forward, but there is one at the after portion on Deck Seven if I recall correctly that has a perfect view of the warp nacelles."
Eislyn came around a corner and nearly ran into the two ensigns. "Hello you two. Apologies for nearly running into you." She recognized Chris, but Kate was unfamiliar to her. "You must be new here. I'm Lt. Jortho, junior counselor here. I hope you are enjoying your time aboard the Washington, and look forward to you coming in for your standard psych evaluation." She could see they were preoccupied, "I'll let you two get on your way. Nice meeting you" she said with a smile and headed off to her own destination.
