Meeting the Medical Contingent
Posted on Tue Jan 21st, 2025 @ 10:01am by Lieutenant Ayana Hillis & Commander Samantha Howard & Lieutenant Commander Shoniara T’ghann-Travis MD & Lieutenant Commander Callie Raven-Grayson
Mission:
Training Cruise
Location: USS Washington
Ayana led the medical cadets to sickbay, where they would be meeting with the senior officers they would be paired with for the duration of their time on the ship. The Vulcan female was not what Ayana had expected. She seemed almost as giddy to be aboard the Washington as the two human cadets. It was puzzling as the trio of females seemed to whisper back and forth between each other, with occasional giggles. Ayana felt a small weight being lifted as they arrived at sickbay.
Ayana noted that Sam, Shon, and Callie were all together in Sam's office. She walked over with the cadets and tried her best to remain professional, "Sam...er, doctor, or rather doctors, your cadets." She looked back at the cadets, "This is CMO Cmdr Samantha Howard, ACMO Lt Cmdr Shoniara T'ghann-Travis, and Chief Counselor Lt Cmdr Callie Raven-Grayson. Hope you all enjoy your time here. If you will excuse me, I have a cadet or two to get to myself on the bridge."
Shon smiled and looked at Cadet T’pau, she raised her fingers in the familiar Vulcan greeting T'nash-veh ahm nam-tor Shoniara T’ghann- Travis, welcome tor wuh Washington.”
“I would prefer it if we communicated in English.” The cadet said.
Shon raised an eyebrow. “If you prefer cadet then I would prefer you address me by Lieutenant Commander or Doctor. She turned to the to the other cadet and smiled, offering her hand she said “welcome to the Washington cadet Del-Rio.”
The cadet took her hand and shook it with gusto. “Doctor I am so very glad to meet you, your treatise on the Chavallio protein on the nuclei of phages, especially your discovery of the special portal vertex at one end of the head, and the A 270 Å-high and 520 Å-diameter hexagonal baseplate attached to the distal end of the contractile tail was, most informative and is now required reading for the viral studies part of the course at the Academy.”
“That was a long time ago cadet.” Said Shon but the obvious pleasure showed in her smile.
“It might have been a long time ago Doctor Travis but your discovery led to the cure for the plague on Adelem VI.”
Shon coughed and began to blush.
Sam intervened to save Shon any further embarrassment. "It's a pleasure to have you aboard cadets. I hope you have your skills with you as we tend to end up in all kinds of interesting situations here aboard the Washington." She started, nailing each of them with a piercing look. "I have read your profiles, and I expect nothing other than your absolute best at all times whilst on duty. I set a high benchmark here for all my staff and I expect nothing less from all of you. Am I understood?"
"Understood ma'am" T'Pau said directly.
"Yes, absolutely" agreed Del Rio and Freud.
Viviana looked to Sam, "I am prepared to see patients immediately if you are so inclined."
"You will begin to attend to patients when I feel you are ready" Sam admonished. "You may shadow myself and the rest of the medical team to begin with."
Callie offered a warm and friendly smile to all three cadets. “It’s nice to meet all of you, especially you Cadet Freud.” She nodded to the young woman who’d be shadowing her for the duration. “My door is always open, so if any of you need anything please feel free to ask. “Now Cadet, I’m looking forward to getting to know you better.”
"As am I you" Freud responded.
“Wonderful” Callie smiled warmly at Freud.
"Counselor, will we be seeing patients immediately?"
“I do have some appointments later on” Callie nodded. “It’s up to them if they’re happy having a cadet sitting in on their sessions.”
"Well, sitting in with patients is part of what I am meant to do after all" Freud noted. "I guess we'll wait and see."
"What would you like for us to do first?" asked Viviana to Sam and Shon.
"The medical tricorders need their monthly calibration and biobeds 2 and 3 need diagnostics run." Sam started, pointing to the tricorder storage locker, and then the two biobeds. "Once you've completed that you can shadow whilst I run a routine medical at 1400 hours."
"Yes ma'am" Viviana replied. "Let's get to work T'Pau."
