Mission: Genetic Purity
Location: USS Washington

In the transporter room, the transporter cycled as four people materialized, Callie, Kate, Phoenix, and Seth. As they did the transporter operator, Lt O'Connor exclaimed, "Bloody Hell!" He hit the comm button, =^=Medical emergency. Dr. Howard, you are urgently needed. =^= He rushed over to the beleaguered and bloodied lot. Phoenix looked like he had been barbequed, but Kate looked the worst at the moment as she was bleeding out on the transporter pad, the surgical butchery still wide open as blood poured out, as well as her organs slowly sliding out.

Kate's blurry-eyed vision looked up toward the transporter pad ceiling. It took her a moment to register just what had happened, but it was the smell of the ship that gave her the realization that she had been transported home. The pad of the transporter seemed to roll as the world went black-and-white followed by a slowly encroaching black barrel in her vision. The young Lieutenant's eyes began to roll back into her head as her body stopped shivering, and the jolts of pain started to relax into a silent languishness of nothing-at-all. She could vaguely hear the familiar voices around her even as she saw nothing but black.

"How the hell?" Phoenix croaked to the Irish Engineer.

Callie’s mind had taken all it could, she hadn’t even been aware of being transported to the ship thanks to Goebbels. Now she had withdrawn deeply into her own mind, a protective measure to try and stop Goebbels from further invading her psyche. She lay on the transporter pad completely unresponsive.

Dr Howard and her med team were in the transporter room within moments, triaging first with their eyes then with their medical tricorders. Sam's assessments were quick and decisive, establishing who would die first without treatment.

She rolled Kate onto her back and swore; the butchery would take much skill and time to repair. Callie seemed to have no visible injury, Phoenix was doing his best impersonation of a char-grilled human, and Seth had faint whiffs of smoke emanating from his tunic, a sure sign of some kind of energy weapon. They were all critical in their own way.

"Beam them to sickbay, my team as well" Sam ordered and mentally prepared herself for what would be an arduous few hours of saving lives.

Seth moaned in pain. he could smell burnt flesh. He didn't know if it was him or Phoenix. Kate looked like she had been gutted and laid open. Callie, lay on the transporter room unmoving she appeared catatonic.

"Aye lass" O'Connor replied, still a bit in shock. He scrambled back to the controls and transported the whole lot to sickbay. Hopefully now the doctor and her team could patch up the injuries. He looked at the transporter room. It was a mess. He wanted a stiff drink but that would have to wait. Somebody needed to clean this mess up. He'd have one of his lackies do it, maybe Ensign McCormick since he always wanted to volunteer to do everything hoping it would somehow earn him points with the boss. He left and made his way to Transporter Room 2 to see how the transports down went, and to make sure they would be able to get everyone up as soon as they brought those shields down.

Arriving in Sickbay, Seth and the others were put on biobeds and stripped of their uniforms and put into hospital gowns. The smell of burnt and charred flesh now much more noticeable and Seth now knew it was coming off of him.

The adrenaline of the pain subsided. Now all Phoenix could feel was the pain emanating from his own burns. He didn't feel it for long as he soon felt himself drifting unconscious. It wouldn't be a good sleep, however.

Viviana was terrified at what she saw as Sam beamed in with multiple critical patients. She had trained for this however, and she needed to get to work. She saw that Sam was working directly on Kate. She heard the CMO yelling out the triage priority and Viviana quickly got to work on the second most serious patient, Lt Phoenix. She didn't need a tricorder to see how seriously wounded he was. It looked as if somebody had tried burning him at the stake. She scanned him with her tricorder and saw not only the burn damage but also the internal damage that had been caused by sustained electrical shock. "Nurse, begin dermal regeneration on his arms and legs, and apply dermaline gel to assist the healing process. Prepare the burn chamber, we'll get him over there as soon as I deal with the internal injuries. Give me 100 CC's of lectrazine.

James began dreaming in his current state. It began with basic memories first. Slices of his life. The good parts. And then his memory turned dark real fast. His mind immediately went back to the interrogation that had just occurred and then it cut to the interactions in the Mirror Universe with him, Shran, and Ashlynn's Mirror counterparts. His mind focused on the torture to him and Ash. He tried to react. To change things. But he couldn't. He was forced to witness Ash getting tortured all over again by a wretched version of his Captain. In this moment he didn't care he just wanted the torture to stop.

"No! Please!" Phoenix cried in his sleep before stirring violently.

"20 cc's anetrizine" Viviana called for as Phoenix began to thrash around. The nurse brought the requested meds and Viviana injected him. Phoenix began to settle and slowly go into a deep sleep. "Let's get him into the burn chamber, and we'll follow it up with some time in stasis while we complete his dermal regeneration."

Kate woke up a little later with perfect recollection of what had happened to her. It wasn't too long after she had showed up on the ship because she could still see the bloodied instruments on the table used to save her. Empty bags of beamed-out IV packs were still on the floor where they'd been transported into her system, along with synthetic blood to put her back into a stable condition.

The floor felt as if it were going to give way underneath her. The pain was gone but her body was getting used to not feeling the agony for the first time in almost an hours' worth of torture.

She quickly peeled away her gown. No scars... Kate wanted to sigh as she stared at herself in the mirror. She knew something was missing. A tear streamed down her cheek. She'd never have a family. The doctors did a good job cleaning her, but she could still see the darkened parches on her newly regenerated skin that only a sonic shower could clear away.

Kate had seen evil before; true, pure evil. But somehow, even that paled in comparison to the feeling of the evils done by men instead of monsters.

Not even the wraiths of void compared to the impact of the monstrosity of bad men because they represented, in small part, a part of her own history. It was people that hurt her the most. Far beyond monsters.

Kate sat back down on the medical bed in silence as she held herself.

With Kate and Phoenix both now treated, Seth and Callie still needed to be looked after. Viviana made her way over to Sam, "Who you want me to treat next boss?"

"Work with Seth, I feat Callie is going to require all of my skill and more" Sam replied sagely as she moved over to the kindhearted counsellor. Biologically she was stable, however Sam knew there was something far deeper going on. She began running neurological scans to assess any damage and would begin running the standard treatment regime. Her hopes however were not high that 'Standards would cut it.

Deep inside her mind Callie was unaware she’d been beamed to the ship, input from her senses was telling her that she wasn’t alone but as far as she knew it was still Goebbels trying to fool her into giving up information.

Seth hurt all over. He wasn't burnt as badly as Phoenix, but his injuries were still severe. He didn't want to move as every movement sent pain coursing through his body.

Viviana made her way to Seth and began scanning him. "What the hell happened down there?" she questioned aloud. She picked up a hypospray of lectrazine and set the dosage to 30 cc's and injected Seth, calming down the internal injuries that he had received from the electrocution. "You are going to be alright" she said in a soft caring tone.

Seth took a steadying breath as Viviana injected him. "Phoenix was set on fire, I was electrocuted. Commander Grayson was also electrocuted and burned as well." he looked around Sickbay, "Where is the Commander?"

"Everyone that got beamed aboard was sent here. I don't believe we managed to transport everyone up, but the captain sent those new commandos and a tactical team under Lt Steele down to the planet to recover everyone that managed not to be pulled out" Viviana replied. She continued to treat Seth, pulling out a dermal regenerator and waving it over the injured areas. "You'll be right as rain in a few minutes, though we'll keep you here for observation for a bit."

Seth nodded at the young medical officer's statement though he was concerned about Commander Grayson and Lieutenants Hillis and Senn.

"Rest, let us heal your injuries, we'll patch up the rest of you when they're beamed up" Sam reassured as she worked on Callie. She trusted Viviana to treat Seth without assistance.

Seth heard the CMO talking to the unresponsive Callie and he silently said a prayer for her recovery and for the full recovery of all the away team members here on the ship and those still on the planet.

Sam continues to work on Callie without much success. Physical injuries she could treat. Injuries of the mind however, were a whole new ballgame. When she had a moment she sent an update to the bridge.

On the bridge things were tense. "Status" Shran said sternly.

"We have taken out 90% of the photon batteries. We have transported both teams to the surface, and we appear to have gotten 4 of the away team back. Lt O'Connor has called for Sam" Deanna answered.

Shran gave a confident smile. "Good shooting Imik. Continue targeting the photon batteries, and when we are in range, use the phaser to start pummeling that shield. I want to be able to get the rest of our people back quickly."

Imik simply continued to target the designated batteries, her mind fully occupied on destroying all opposition to the recovery of the away team.

The Washington continued firing photons as it moved into a high orbital position, continuing to destroy the planetary defenses that were thought to be protected by the cloaking devices. As the ship entered orbit the phaser arrays began to fire, targeting the colony as ordered. The phaser impacts pummeled the shield grid of the colony.

"Estimate total colony shield collapse in 3 minutes" Deanna announced.

"Keep firing" Shran ordered. "Get in contact with the rescue teams, notify them of the situation and get their situation."

Checking some co-ordinates, Imik noted something to which she thought Shran should be informed of. "Sinkahue, we may have to forego complete shield collapse. From what I can assess from our sensors, it would appear the away team is being held somewhere close to the shield generators. If they explode when the shield collapses, our team may perish before we can get to them."

"Keep firing Imik. Our rescue teams will get people out in time" Shran ordered.
