2,290 words; about a 11 minute read

Mission: Genetic Purity
Location: Neues Deutschland

The two away teams materialized in the mine shaft. Smith looked around to ensure his team had all made it safe and then looked to Wyatt, "Your team all here?"

Vienna nodded to her husband as he looked around. “I’m good.”

"Same here." Wyatt answered simply and to the point.

Smith nodded as he looked at Wyatt and his security detail. Looking to his XO, "Murdoch, you have a bead on things?"

Murdoch was looking at his tricorder. "Absolutely Commander. They have no idea we are here. We are inside the shield perimeter, so we should have no issue going into the colony proper and getting the remaining people. The viridium patches the away team had indicates we still have 3 people to pick up in two different buildings. The buildings are near the center of the colony. We can hit the main street about 300 meters outside of this mine and make a straight shot to them."

"Alright, let's get a move on. Captain is going to start blowing holy hell out of this place in about 20 minutes, maybe less depending on how long it takes for them to knock the shield down" Smith stated firmly. "B.A. you take rear guard with one of Lt Wyatt's men, the rest of us will push forward in a tactically quick pace."

"Olson, you stay with B.A. Vienna, the rest of the team and I will move forward and be ready to coordinate our attack with Commander Smith and his team." Wyatt spoke and prepared to move.

Vienna nodded. “We need to watch our backs, these people have proven they're willing to do anything.”

"Sage advice Vienna." Wyatt answered. "Everyone, eyes open, be constantly alert. We can't afford any mistakes or slip ups."

The two teams moved quickly into the colony. The ground shook as phaser fire streamed down from orbit and impacted the colony shields. There was panic as the people had nowhere to hide as the shields were pummeled and the reverberation shook the buildings.

"Coming up on the locales Commander" Murdoch mentioned. "Looks like the shuttle is inside that building along with one of our team, and the other two are in that building there."

"Lt Steele, your team take that building and retrieve the solo. If you can't retrieve the shuttle, orders are to destroy it" Smith said to Wyatt. "I assume you have the necessary demo gear. If not, the shuttle's self-destruct should suffice. We'll gather up the other two in the other building and then search for the secondary target, the Chancellor."

"I do." Wyatt replied, tapping the bag hanging off his shoulder. "Don't worry if we can't retrieve it nobody is going to get it,"

Vienna nodded as she looked at her husband, she didn’t like unnecessary violence, but this was definitely warranted given what had happened to those already retrieved.

Smith gave a toothy grin, "Very good lieutenant. I like an officer than comes prepared."

"We have contact with the ship sir. They report they will bust the colony shields in approximately 3 minutes. They are asking for our current situation" Peck informed.

"Tell them we are preparing to split into two groups to rescue the remaining hostages and go after secondary targets. No force necessary to this point, expect that to change when we breach the locations" Smith replied. He looked over at Wyatt, "Good hunting lieutenant."

"Thank you, Commander, the same to you and your team." Wyatt replied sincerely. He looked over to Vienna and the rest of the team. "Alright everyone, game faces on. We have some crew to rescue."

The Chancellor looked at Jon, "What happened?"

Jon chuckled mirthlessly despite his injuries. "Twenty fourth century magic Chancellor and the show is just starting and lucky you, you have a front row seat."

"Schweinehund! Tell me what you captain is doing. Him attacking us is madness" the Chancellor replied, his voice filled with desperation.

Jon just smiled, "Oh, now that would be telling. The madness is on your head Chancellor thinking you could bluff and go toe to toe with us. The away team is expendable. The captain will destroy this entire colony if he has to because of your stupidity."

The Chancellor looked at Hess and Oberth in a panic. "That is complete madness. Who would sacrifice their own people like that? They can't do that!"

"Be calm Chancellor" Hess said calmly. "They are just playing that most American of games, poker. And they want to make you think they have cards they don't have. They cannot defeat us. We are superior to these weak Mischlinge und Außerirdische."

Jon shrugged in his restraints the best he could despite the pain from his injuries just as another explosion could be heard throughout the building. "You keep thinking that as your colony is destroyed."

"I suggest we move to the tactical bunker in the subterrain levels of this facility" Oberth suggested.

"Very well. Bring him. He may still be of use" the Chancellor replied.

"No need to make a fuss over me. I'm perfectly fine just waiting here." Jon answered as he had a good idea what was coming.

Bismarck looked at Ayana. "How did you make her disappear?"

Ayana chuckled. "You think that was crazy. Just wait. Pretty sure you are going to dislike what happens next."

Bismark scoffed. "Leere Drohungen machen mir keine Angst."

Ayana just stared at Bismarck. The expression on her face made it clear that she was not joking. The building shook and she looked around, and then finally broke her silence, "I do hope you have your affairs in order. I don't think you'll be around much longer. From the shaking of this building, I'd say you made my captain angry. Not many things worse than an angry Andorian. They get feisty, become focused on destroying whoever or whatever is the cause of the anger or frustration. I've seen my captain train in combat situations. Most take him for a gentle fellow, calm, fairly soft spoken, some sort of academic type who worked in intelligence. Truth is he is a vicious soldier. I won't be surprised if he atomizes this entire colony. I'm prepared to die. Are you?"

Bismarck ignored Ayana, continuing his work. He took his sample he had removed from Kate over to a machine. Placing the sample inside he pressed a few buttons and waited patiently for a result. "Wunderbar!" he exclaimed. "Your friend was quite fertile it seems. 275,000 eggs in this one sample. I will be able to fertilize them all and begin work in modification." He looked back at Ayana, "Such a fine physical specimen you are. Despite your flawed heritage, perhaps it may be worthwhile to collect your eggs as well."

"You keep your hands off me you butcher. Only person I am letting near my eggs or any other part of me is the man I choose to procreate with, and that sure as Hell isn't you" Ayana replied with contempt in her voice.

Goebbels entered the lab with a bemused look on her face. She looked at Inara still strapped to the table, "Your little friend Callie has magically disappeared. I don't know how she managed such a trick, but I think you do. One of the secrets you are trying to keep from me. Now, why don't we play nice, and you tell me your secrets."

"Play nice?" Inara chuckled. "Didn't I tell you that you were not asking the right questions? Who were the people you captured? What were their capabilities? What would they be willing to do when you captured and experimented on them?" She shook her head and laughed. "I have another riddle you and your leaders should ponder." Inara grinned. "You'll like this one. You see in our Federation, there are two laws you should be most concerned about. Now this has very serious implications for you, and I suggest you pay attention this time. The first prohibits Genetic Augmentation. The Second is what is known as the Prime Directive. Now, let's examine recent events. The destruction of the sleeper ship in orbit around this world." Inara smirked. "I disagreed with the orders to destroy it, as there was too much we didn't know about the circumstances of that ship, but I am a scientist, and the captain was an intelligence officer. He destroyed the ship because there were Augments onboard. Considered them dangerous weapons in violation of some Starfleet protocol."

Goebbels shook her head. "Augments? We are not Augments. Genetically modified, yes, but not in the same way that those abominations were created centuries ago. And we are not part of your Federation; we should not be subject to your rules and regulations. Surely as a scientist you can see the logic in that."

"Oh, but on the contrary, you are monsters just like Khan Noonien Singh. You tortured and experimented on my crew. I may not like most of them, and I may hate some of the things they do, but I am ready to die for them." Inara mentioned. "Furthermore, I will not be a hostage, and dh'Klar will do what he has to do to keep you from reverse engineering any more technology, or performing any more genetic engineering, that includes destroying the shuttle, and if our life signs are terminated, he will deem our remains to be a liability and destroy them." Inara mentioned. "Your people's best course of action is to release the rest of us immediately and maybe... I can talk dh'Klar into not leveling this colony, with the Washington's weapons, Madame. And I guarantee you, what you've seen thus far is our ship merely neutralizing defenses." Inara let the silence continue. "Push him, and he will crater this continent. He's not from the security nor the science track, as he's from those spooks in Starfleet Intelligence."

Goebbels looked concerned. The Chancellor and those idiots Hess and Oberth had likely bungled this situation. She knew this situation was too complex for them to handle. The best she could hope for now was to gain a bit of information and escape to her secret facility in the hill country outside of the city. "Well, if this is to be the end of us all, then it will do no harm for you to tell me about the so-called gods you encountered. Who is this third you say you encountered?"

"Or you can actually grow a spine and do something about it, Doctor Goebbels. Clearly you are as disillusioned as I am about our leadership" Inara mentioned. "So why don't we help each other out? You help me get my crew out of this Nazi bag of cats... And you get your name, and it's the only thing we can do. The alternative is to die now, and clearly we do not want to die." Inara mentioned. "Both of our objectives align quite well, don't you think? Now remove these binds so we can fix our problems, and you will, of course, have to kill the kings if we go forward with this, but I have no issue with this. Bismarck, Hess, Oberth, I have unfinished business with the one that tortured Lt. Kono. She is one of my very few friends. So, do we have a deal?"

"I will set you free and direct you to where your little friend should be. That is the extent I am willing to assist you. Hess and Oberth are in their Thule facility. I have no way to get you into that place" Goebbels replied. The building shook as the phaser impacts continued to pummel the shields of the colony. But before I set you free, I want that name."

"Oh, there's no conditions, Doctor. You will release me now, I will give you the name, you will show me who tortured Ms. Kono. So, I can remove his masculinity before I leave this world." Inara mentioned. "Or we can continue this back and forth until my captain levels the colony." Inara smirked. "I don't do standoffs, neither does my captain."

Goebbels offered only silence and then shrugged her shoulders. She walked over and began unstrapping Inara, "Your two friends, the small one you call Kono, and the large Nubian female are currently in an adjacent lab with Herr Bismarck. I regret to tell you that he is not as civilized as I am in his methods. I believe you owe me a name."

Inara smiled. "Thank You my dear. Now her name is Hela. I wouldn't recommend getting her attention, but you won't heed my warning. These gods are more trouble than they're worth." She picked up one of the colony's disruptor rifles.

Goebbels looked at Inara with the disruptor rifle. "That will serve you well. Not nearly as versatile as this weapon of yours we took off you" she said as she pulled out the phaser. "I have to admit, I don't have the knowledge of this weapon that you do, but this second setting" she said as she fired it at Inara, stunning her, "this setting works very well. I do apologize, but I don't trust that you will be completely honorable. I do appreciate the information and look forward to finding out how truthful you have been. Auf Wiedersehen." With that she walked out, leaving Inara on the ground heavily stunned.

---

Inara woke up about ten minutes later. "I am going to feel this, tomorrow morning, I hate this damned planet. Well now. Time to find whom I can." She left the room and began to move quietly. Using her telepathy to evade as many people as possible, moving to where she sensed pain... Silently, quietly. She waited until Bismarck was distracted.
