Preparing

Mission: Living History
Location: Conference Room 1
Timeline: Current

Jon had called all members of his away to the conference room for a briefing and to go over what their mission was while at Cape Kennedy and dealing with NASA.

"Callie and I are special agents of the FBI. Shon is a civilian doctor working with NASA. Seth is a 'problem -solver go between us and NASA and James, I'll you describe your role in all this."

Phoenix leaned forward in his seat and looked towards the others. "If you may or may not know, I was born in the early 21st Century, and I'm fully Human. Long story short, I was on failed mission to Mars, that resulted in me being frozen for a few hundred years. That is sort of beside the point. My role in this is that I am working for NASA and helping the FBI as a consultant, as at around this time, I had started my training by now" he began. "As long as that hasn't changed too."

"So in essence, I can help get us into NASA even with our FBI getup" James quipped. "However I need to be extra careful, as I likely will be recognized. That can also work to our advantage as well" he looked to Jon. "Am I missing anything sir?"

"I don't believe so James." Jon replied as he looked t the others. "Questions people Now is the time to ask."

“Where are we going to stay, or will we be returning to the ship?” Shon asked. “I presume we will be here for longer than 24 hours?”

"Excellent question Shon. We will not be returning to the ship, too many issues involved such as being seen either in arriving or coming. No, we will be staying in an establishment called a hotel... a Hilton hotel, top of the line with all the perks." Jon replied.

Shon lifted an eyebrow below her perfectly coiffured hair. She turned to Seth, “Perks..what are perks?”

Jon grinned at the question, "Perks, are little extras you get in your room Shon. Like a safe to but your valuables, a refrigerator, small liquor bottles for you to enjoy. heated towels when you go to the pool, access to the hotel's gym, Things like that." Jon explained.

“Oh wow, sounds lovely” Callie grinned. “Silly question though, as members of the FBI how would we afford such luxury rooms? I’d imagine law enforcement agents back in this time didn’t get luxury rooms when on investigations.”

"Not a silly question at all Callie." Jon replied. "We're special agents on special assignment at a high security facility. We're allowed to have a good room, so we get a good night's sleep." He joked.

Callie grinned. “Fair enough” she didn’t say that she was planning a little more than just sleeping once they got some time alone in their room.

Jon smiled and gave Callie a wink. "Beside the agency will be paying for the room. The cost for it won't be coming out of our pockets."

Shon walked over to her husband. “How are you feeling, how is your leg my love.

Seth smiled at Shon and squeezed her hand softly. "Fit as a fiddle, my love, how are you feeling?"

“I am fine Seth, a little tired and just wish we could have some time with Shasta, not thrown into all these ventures one after the other and now back in time with no current prospect to return to our own.” She placed her hand over her stomach, “And then there’s the twins. What if something happens whilst we are down there?” She laughed,”Remember I am older than you.”

Seth smiled, "You worry too much my love. Worry about what you can control not what you can't. We will be back with Shasta in no time and the twins are going to do fine."

Callie couldn’t help but overhear the conversation. “I understand how you feel Shon, we haven’t had a lot of time to spend with Harry either. Plus the worry if something was to happen while we’re off ship.”

Shon smiled and walked over and hugged Callie. “Maybe I’m just getting to old for this. Perhaps a nice doctors post in the country somewhere with lots of land and trees. A nice place to bring children up. Don’t you ever think about that?”

Callie shrugged her shoulders. “To be honest I’m happy wherever Jon is. Though we did talk about buying a home to go to in the future. I guess somewhere like that away from all of this would be nice.”

Seth chuckled at Shon."Callie, you need to take a page from Jon. I think he has ice water in his veins. he never seems rattled. I'll tell you the same thing I told Shon, Relax, worry about what you can control."

Callie nodded. “Excellent advice if I ever heard it Seth. Worrying just makes you feel worse!”

"Thank you, Callie. Yes, worrying serves no useful purpose." Seth replied. "I suggest we concentrate on the mission and seeing it through successfully."

Shon brushed her jacket absentmindedly. “What exactly are we supposed to be doing in NASA I mean, what is our cover story Jon?” She asked.

"Good question Shon, we are a team of federal agents looking for any sign of sabotage involving the mission." Jon replied. "So we'll be looking at equipment, systems safeguards, security, the whole picture."

“Thank you, that makes things a lot clearer. It’s a long time since I learned about old Earth computers at the Academy but I did use them on a sabbatical I took in England.” She smiled remembering the old streets, small houses and great places called pubs. “The hospital was a very old one going back hundreds of years. They had a medical museum at St Thomas’s and had a display of old computers that required keyboards, and something called an I pad which was a forerunner of our PaDD system. Seth you would love England.” She turned to him then turned back.

Seth smiled at Shon. "Next shore leave, we'll go there Shon and take Shasta and the twins with us. Make it a real family affair."

Shon smiled lovingly at her husband “promise?” She asked. “Sorry Jon got carried away, so when do we go and how are we getting there?”

Jon smiled, "Nothing to be sorry for Shon. We'll leave at the end of this meeting, and we'll take a shuttle down. Don't want to risk a transporter signal being detected."

“In that case I’ll take that low dose of inhibitor now” Callie nodded to Shon. “I’m going to need it until I get used to the uncontrolled minds down there.”

“Sure Callie, I’ve disguised it as allergy injections and I have contained it in old type dosage container with a needle and syringe. I can’t be seen with any of our tech in case we are searched..however for your first injection.” Shon depressed a hypo into Callie’s carotid artery. “There, that should last about five hours unless we get into somewhere crowded. Then I may need to increase the dosage.” She waited, “how do you feel? One of the side affects is a little dizziness and nausea.”

Callie gave it a few moments for the dose to kick in. “Yeah... you’re right about the dizziness part. A little dizzy, but no nausea as yet.”

“If nausea kicks in I have a little quaint tablet to give you.” Shon laughed, “by the way Callie,” she whispered. I would suggest neither of us are intimate with our husbands whilst we are down there. I saw the way you looked at Jon a few minutes ago, but as your doctor I would advise against it in case something happens.… you understand my friend?”

Callie nodded. “I understand Shon, I guess it’s a wise precaution given where we’re going.” She offered Jon an apologetic glance. “Looks like we’re cuddling this trip.”

"Right, cuddling." Jon replied, clearly not happy with that announcement by Callie but at least temporarily stopped.

Callie hadn’t meant to make her husband feel embarrassed. Her smile faded as she looked towards him, then looked away again.

“We’re in the same boat.” Shon said as she looked over to Seth who smiled back. “He doesn’t know yet, but it’s the mission that is important, we need to get back home. Are we ready Jon?” Shon asked.

Jon nodded, "We are ready. Make sure you have your credentials and any other equipment you will need and we'll be on our way."

Shon walked back to Seth and took his hand. “Ready?” She asked. Then without further ado she pulled him to her and kissed him deeply. “I love you, “ she whispered.

Seth's smile was brilliant at Shon's words. "I love you as well Shon. Now and forever."

After his piece in the meeting, James had sort of spaced out but he had still heard everything else said so he was prepared. Being terrified was an understatement. He had a great feeling he would be recognized which wasn't the reason for being nervous. He didn't know who would recognize him and that scared him. That and the potential risk of jeopardizing the mission.

This feeling wouldn't go away anytime soon. But he'd have to work with it. Given the fact that the group would be departing soon, he stood up and made sure he had everything he needed on him. After that he leaned back against the wall and waited for the others.

When no one else had anything to say, Jon looked at the group, "Alright everyone, let's get to the shuttle and get this show on the road. Find and stop what we're supposed to"
