Mission:
Living History
Location: Cape Kennedy
Timeline: Current
The away team bordered the shuttle and prepared for their mission at Cape Kennedy. "Everyone know their assignments?" Jon asked before the shuttle depart from the Washington. "If there is anything you are unclear or unsure of speak up now because when we land it will be too late. Remember this is history to us, to the people we meet it is current events. Stay frosty and everything will be fine."
“Stay frosty?” Callie grinned as she looked at her husband. “That’s not one I’ve heard you say before.”
Jon smiled at his wife, "See? I can still surprise you, Callie and I am glad I can. The saying just means keep your wits about you, stay calm."
Shon sat next to Seth her med kit designed to look like a twentieth century doctors bag. It felt pretty unwieldy and she wondered how doctors ever managed in this time. She checked her name tag and her wallet with her ID inside. She felt a little nervous and took Seth’s hand. She was more worried about him and wished he had stayed on board the ship.
Seth sat quietly next to Shon. His hand closed over and he smiled at her. "Everything is going to be fine Shon, you'll see and we'll be back on board with Shasta in no time. Don't worry and don't say you aren't I can tell you are. I'll be fine."
Shon squeezed his hand. “Where are we going to be set down Jon? If needed I can drive the motors of this time.”
Jon turned in his seat to address Shon. Back parking lot of the Hilton hotel Shon. Shuttle will do a quick dust off once we exit. Plus that lot is usually full of what were called buses. They will mask our arrival. If anyone does ask a government helicopter dropped us off."
“So, here we go!” Shon exclaimed.
Jon nodded at Shon's statement. "Indeed Shon, here we go."
The shuttle touched down smoothly in a large quiet area that seemed to be full of large yellow vehicles. Shon climbed out and immediately the foul air hit her Vulcan nose. She scrunched up her eyes and held her nose. “Not sure if I can get used to this.” She muttered and looked around for Seth, Jon and Callie.
"Don't have to get used to it Shon, just put up with it for the short time we're here, do our job and get back to the ship. Nothing to it." Seth grinned at her.
“I can smell metal, animals, the sweat of humans, combustible substances, waste and chemicals I cannot begin to name all in a thick cloud in the air. Jon, can we get inside this Hilton place as quickly as possible?”
"Of course we can Shon." Jon said to the Washington doctor. He looked to Callie and the rest of the team. "Let's go everyone. Grab your bags and we'll get checked in."
James had to force himself out of his seat and out of the shuttlecraft. After that he moved himself to grab his bag and he regrouped with the others. He knew he'd be hesitant because of the time but it didn't set in until they touched down. He'd get better but reluctance was an understatement for the Ensign.
Callie grabbed her bags, even with the hypo she’d been given to block out a lot of the mental input her senses were still screaming at the sheer level of intensity of emotions, and thoughts she was picking up. “Shon, is there any chance of a top up on that hypo?”
Shon nodded and pulled out an old type syringe and a needle. “Sorry Callie we have to do it the old fashioned way. This will take longer to get to your neo cortex.” She jabbed the needle into Callie’s upper arm and depressed the plunger. “Sorry my friend, no more for ten hours now.” She shrugged. “Are you sure you don’t want to return to the ship whilst the shuttle is still here?” Just then the Shuttle took off and disappeared. “Too late my friend. Let me know if you have any dizziness okay? Jon, shall we get into this Hilton?”
Callie had to admit the old fashioned way of giving a shot wasn’t much fun, but they couldn’t use a hypo here. She hoped she wouldn’t cause problems for the group, they needed to concentrate on the mission. “I believe that...” she pointed at the building before them. “Is the Hilton.”
Jon looked at the structure not far away from where they were standing. "You would be right Callie. Let's get toour rooms and we can go over what we're going to do when we go to the base tomorrow."
After the group had checked in and been fussed over by the hotel manager who was 'just delighted' to federal agents in the hotel, they went to their rooms. Seth and Shon in one, Phoenix in his own room and Jon and Callie in theirs. They had just gotten in to their room when Jon's 'phone' buzzed. Opening it he saw a message from Sam saying they had found and captured a rogue temporal agent but his partner was at the NASA facility they were visiting tomorrow. She also gave a detailed report of their mission here. "Damn." He whispered, "Callie, come look at this."
Callie walked over looking at the message. “A temporal agent? That’s not good. They’re supposed to be the ones who protect the timeline not change it.” She sighed. “This will make our job more tricky.”
"I agree Callie. One good think we know who we're looking for." Jon replied. Still a temporal agent was a difficult assignment, but he was confident they could over come it.
“I just hope he doesn’t cause any big problems for us” Callie sat down on the comfortable sofa in their living area. “We’re going to have to stay out of his field of view.”
"I don't know if that is going to be possible Callie, I think at some point we're going to interact with him. All we can do is play this close to our chest and not reveal to much about what we're doing here." Jon replied and continued, "Seems the name of the agent they caught is Morden. No name for his partner."
“No doubt we’ll find out, but right now I’m enjoying having your company” She motioned for him to sit so they could cuddle up. “We may have to avoid lovemaking as Shon suggested, but that doesn’t mean we can’t cuddle.”
Jon came to sit next to Callie on the couch. "Yeah, don't want to jeopardize the baby and I definitely don't want to get Shon mad at me." He leaned in and gently kissed Callie on her full lips. "Cuddling is nice." He stated as he looped an arm around Callie's shoulders.
In their room, Seth looked at Shon, "Shon relax, you aren't doing yourself or the babies any good with your pacing. Sit down. You are making me tired watching you.”
Shon looked at him. “I’m sorry my love but I do not like it here, I feel itchy due to all the contaminants on my skin and I also feel uneasy. I wish we could get on with it.” She gave up her pacing and stood by the window. Moving the curtain aside she looked down onto the street below. The wide highway was full of strange looking vehicles and the sounds of people cussing and shouting carried up to her sensitive Vulcan ears. “Most of these people do not like each other.” She exclaimed whilst watching a man trying to sleep in a corner by a shop door. People walked by ignoring him and the small animal by his side. “This world does not seem pleasant Seth, I am glad Shasta was not born into this century.” She walked over to him and kissing him took his hand and placed it gently on her abdomen. “Neither will the twins.” She said.
Seth kissed her hand and then her stomach. "Don't blame you there Shon. Makes you wonder how we made it doesn't it? But we did and look at us now." He shook his head, "Shasta doesn't need to see this world and she certainly doesn't belong it nor the twins. The sooner our mission is over the sooner we get back to our time."
“I agree,” Shon said. “Now if I could just find the replicator to find something to drink and new clothes.…” she began to look around the room.
Seth smiled at her, then he began to chuckle and in a matter of moments he was laughing up a storm. He looked at Shon managed to stop his laughing for a few moments. "Shon my love, this era does not have replicators and as far as new clothes you have to buy some."
She sighed, I wonder if Callie would like to go shopping, but, I suppose she has already persuaded Jon to..do something else.” Smiling she let down her long hair and began to unbutton her blouse. Can you help me with..whatever this is, I do know it’s most uncomfortable and I cannot get it off.” She began to get annoyed pulling at her bra. “Well that moment has gone.” She said sitting heavily on the bed and looking at Seth.
Seth shook his head, "Shon, for goodness sakes ask her! She isn't stapled to Jon's hip." Seth chuckled. He got up and moved to her. "Relax darling. it is a simple clasp..." A few seconds pass and "Voila! All done." He says triumphantly as he hands the bra to Shon. He looks at her, "And you don't believe the moment can be recaptured? I am disappointed Shon." He teases.
She sat there for a moment deep in thought. “We are very lucky to live in the time we do Seth, I cannot imagine living in this time to be anything more than hard work with brittle rewards. They seem to be bent on destroying their world and all the beauty that is within it. The people of this world die every day from hundreds of diseases that, with one hypo we could save every one of them.” She stood, her hands across her chest looking out of the window onto the melting pot of humanity far below. She sighed, “it is so unbearabley sad” she said. She walked over to Seth. “Hold me my love, never let me go whatever happens now or in whatever future we have.”
"It is the world they created with their own hand Shon. Ignorance and greed caused this. Millions who died could have been saved but governments turned a blind eye and a deaf ear to the situation." He opened his arms so Shon can sit on his lap. "I will hold you to the end of time and beyond Shon. Never worry about that. For now, put the pain of this world behind you and let us get this mission over so we can return to our world and Shasta."
She nodded and cuddled into his chest which felt reassuringly solid and smelled of the Vulcan cologne she had given him. “Mmmm, now that’s better.” She whispered.
Seth nuzzled her neck. "I agree my love, this is much better Shon and when we get back to the Washington, I promise we will have much more of this. We'll just have to lock Shasta in her room." He joked.
Shon turned her fact to Seth’s and kissed him. “Once the twins come there will not be much of this.” She kissed him again.”take me to bed my love?” She whispered.
"Then we need to make the most of the time we have Shon and not waste a moment." Seth replied as he returned her kiss. "Your wish is my command." He replied as he rose and scooped her into his arms and headed for the bedroom.
Meanwhile Jon, looked at the report Sam had sent him again. "I think, a team meeting is needed Callie, so the others can be brought up to date as the mission status and current developments.''
Callie nodded. “Agreed, do we want to risk communicators or go door to door?”
"Door to door Callie, I don't want to risk someone seeing us using the communicators, so we'll do it this way, It is slower but safer for all of us." Jon replied.
Callie nodded. “I’ll go knock doors and have everyone meet here” she kissed his cheek before pausing for a romantic kiss. “Consider that a promise for when we get back to the ship.” With that she went to get the others.
While everyone else was settling in, James was sort of doing the same thing but he was also per-occupied in his thoughts. Although it had only felt like 8-9 years since he had been there, it had actually been a few hundred. Looking out the window of his room, he had spaced out thinking about his past. He had always wondered if he would get the chance to go back. He just didn't think that it would be in this capacity trying to fix the timeline.
