Jon sat in the pilot's seat of the shuttle going through the checklist while he waited for the other members to show up. They were going down to the colony Neues Deutschland to meet with the Chancellor, a man named Adolf Bouhler, Chancellor of the colony as well as to find out just what sort of eugenic experiments they were conducting. This whole set up gave him a bad feeling. If this was really a new Germany. Were they building their own master race? That was just one of the many questions for the away team to answer. He was roused from his musings by "Hello Commander," and Seth Travis, the Washington's chief diplomatic officer standing in the shuttle doorway.
"Hello Seth, come on in and grab a seat. You're the first one here."
"Thanks sir. Looking forward to this mission, to see if there is a 22nd century of New Germany waiting for us. Have to admit knowing the Chancellor's first name is Adolf doesn't fill me with much confidence."
"Now Seth," Jon said with a chuckle, "you're the diplomat. If anyone can work out a solution, it's you."
"I appreciate the vote of confidence. Hope it doesn't come to that." Seth replied as he settled into his seat and waited for the others to arrive.
Ayana came aboard, another female security officer in tow. "I very much would like to have more weaponry than we are being permitted to take with us" she said, her comments obviously directed at Jon. "I understand why we are minimizing, but phaser rifles and photon grenades tend to be the best negotiating tools for me in such situations and I'm not allowed to have them seems wrong." She turned briefly before looking back at Jon and Travis, "This is Ensign Jovovich. This is her first assignment aboard a starship after completing the advanced tactical courses. I figured she'd be the best asset should things devolve the way they usually do."
"What does that mean?" questioned the ensign.
"You'll see" Ayana said with a smirk. "Let's just say that despite your young age, you didn't miss the war."
Jon sighed. Ayana was right, the phaser rifles would be nice, the photon grenades as well but they would literally be overkill.
"Ayana, you can ger two phaser rifles and store them in the gun cabinet. They are not to be used unless the situation demands it." He looked at Jovovich, "Welcome to the Washington, Ensign."
Ayana looked to Jon, "Understood Commander." She quickly grabbed the rifles and stored them. She hoped they wouldn't be needed, but experience made her believe they likely would be. "The captain wants us to put in full security measures on all technology. He doesn't trust that these people won't try to take our technology to attempt to reverse engineer it."
"A sentiment I fully share Ayana. Please see that all security measures are installed and activated." Jon replied.
Callie stepped onboard next offering a warm smile. “Apologies I needed to check in on Harry & the twins before we left.” She offered Jon a warm smile as she took a seat. “I guess any observations from me will need to be given in private?”
"I'm sure you can send messages to the Commander telepathically" Ayana noted as she began implementing security measures. "I am going to wait to encrypt the computer until after we land so as to not cause you any issues" she stated looking in Jon's direction.
Ensign Jovovich seemed confused at what seemed to be going on. She was told about familiarity aboard starships, but some of this was certainly different than what she learned about at the Academy. She leaned in and whispered to Ayana, "Did I miss something?"
Ayana gave a soft chuckle. "They're married."
"No apology is necessary Callie and Ayana is right. Send me a telepathic message, failing that just whack me on the side of the head and say, Hey! I've got something to tell you!" He finished, laughing as he did. Giving Callie a broad smile and wink. He then added, "Harry and the twins, okay?" He asked as Callie, Harry and the twins were his universe,
Inara entered and sat down, still in a state of permanent rage. She didn't want to speak. But perhaps is needed, the commander could bring some Thalaron weapons for their next massacre. Either way, she was forced into staying in Starfleet for the foreseeable future, more like impressed in the damned royal navy.
From the front of the Shuttlecraft window, the phaser rifle Kate carried was slightly weathered from the previous missions she used it on, and the precise deadly weapon looked a little over half the size of her lithe frame as she danced her way toward the shuttle. In her belt, two PADD holders, a Tricorder Pouch, her favorite water and snack portable replicator, and her standard phaser.
The young Asian girl transitioned from swaying her slender shoulders from side to side in a beat-driven walk, to miming the appearance of pulling herself along the front of the craft with the aide of nonexistent rope. As she rounded the corner, music could be heard emanating from the Lieutenants tricorder that she promptly turned off as she climbed aboard and smiled at the new faces.
"Adolf..." Kate said as she jammed the rifle into storage. "Where have I heard that name before..." Kate swung around and found a seat in the back of the shuttle, not presuming to be the copilot this time around but perfectly willing if asked. "Makes me wonder if there's a neighboring Hirohito."
"Or a Benito." Jon quipped from the pilot's seat.
James entered just after Kate, wearing less than his usual tactical getup. Instead of his usual tactical vest, he was wearing a duty belt that consisted of his phaser pistol, tricorder, and a few small hypos like he usually did. Everything else he had to leave behind due to the diplomatic protocols. Orders were orders however, and at least there were extra rifles aboard the shuttle.
The tactical officer plopped down at the auxiliary tactical station. "I'm not liking what I see. It's eerily similar to Europe of that time" he added. "Let's just hope that it's more like Germany of the 21st Century, where cars and food are what they are best known for and not, other things."
"Like indiscriminate slaughter?" Inara stated in a low voice. She wasn't popular with the crew now. She didn't care, as she simply wanted to survive this impression into this crew so she could write a scathing expose on Starfleet.
"Ayana, come up here and be my copilot." Jon asked the tactical officer. he heard Inara's comment and chose to ignore it.... for now.
Ayana looked at Kate. "Hate to be the bearer of bad news, but that replicator has to go. That would definitely be contraband that the captain doesn't want to go down with us. I have already secured the shipboard replicator requiring a level 3 security code to access. And please, keep that phaser rifle in the security case until we are authorized to use them. We'll be meeting them with simple side arms only." She looked up at Jon, "Aye sir." She quickly moved to the copilot station and logged in. She looked back at Phoenix, "You have tactical Mr. Phoenix." She looked at the link up that was online with Ops on the bridge. "Seems the captain has them busy. Anyone know what the Thule Society is?"
Inara shook her head. "Thule-Gesellschaft." Inara noted speaking German. "Originally, Studiengruppe für germanisches Alterum." She noted. "It was a pro-Aryan group that formed the foundation for German Aryan mysticism after Earth's first world war, preceding the second." Inara mentioned. "Amazing how Impressionable humans are, they keep on making terrible decisions." She said that in regard to the captain but didn't let the team know who the context was about. "Regardless, they began exploring all sorts of bad ideas disguised as good ideas. It was built off the study of a mythical Germanic nation to the north of Ancient Greece during the ancient world, and this is where Nazi Germany's Aryan Ideology came from, as its member list reads like a who's who of the future Nazi Regime. Rudolf Hess, Alfred Rosenberg, Hans Frank, Julius Lehmann, Gottfried Feder, Dietrich Eckart, and Karl Harrer." Inara noted. "Why are we going down to some planet to meet Nazis? Then I suggest we don't, and say we did. There's really so much more I can do with my time right now."
"My understanding is we are here because you discovered this as a destination point and we needed to find the people responsible for that crazy ape world" Ayana replied. "Can't say I am thrilled about meeting these people, but I suppose it will be exciting showing such people that they were wrong in their beliefs. As for this Thule Society, I asked because Deanna has found multiple insignias in the colony representing that group. You said they were part of the mystical side of things regarding the Nazis, so I wonder what brought them way out here."
Jon listened with one ear to the back-and-forth conversations as the shuttle lifted off the bay floor and out of the Washington. he turned the nose and angled it down as they made their approach to the planet and whatever was waiting for them.
